Games or Systems you dodged a bullet on.

Every Square Enix game in the ps2/ps3 era. I never wanted them, I just completely dodged them. I made the right choice.

I almost got a Wii (mainly for brawl and Mario kart Wii) after my PS3 broke, but my dad convinced me to just get another PS3 since I had a lot of PS3 games leftover that would have collected dust. That PS3 ended up being the system that would last me to this day (though I did eventually get a Wii U and was able to play Wii games lol).

On a whim, I bought Geist from Amazon (about 9 or 10 years ago now). They shipped me a DVD of Saw 2 instead.

I returned the DVD and got my money back. I never went back and re-ordered Geist. I feel like things turned out okay for me.

Like others I was massive hype for Virtual Boy. And yes I had actually tried it out on one of the Nintendo Power days beforehand. The thought of playing that while in the back seat of the car blew my little mind. (at least to the point I couldn't think of the violent car sickness while trying to look at something that would bounce all over my lap.)

It never got released in Europe so er I guess thanks Nintendo.

I don't dodge bullets, I buy the product and then try to justify it for years before admitting it was a bad purchase.

Actually, I dodged Brute Force on the Xbox. Loved Halo and was hyped for a game similar, but for some reason I never got around to buying it.

Atari 2600 - Ireland had been suffering a recession for pretty much all of the 80's and nobody had any money. Atari were still offering the 2600 very cheaply and one of my friends had one. I loved Battlezone, and was intending to ask for one for Christmas. Luckily, we visited some family friends and their kids were playing with a C64. I learned just how old and outdated the 2600 was when I saw Ghostbusters and Yie Ar Kung Fu.

3D0 - I remember being blown away by Need for Speed, winning that first race and having the FMV character get pissed off at you (and calling you "Melvin"). Luckily I couldn't afford one and the first console I would get would be an N64.

Lets be honest, the TG16 US only library is pretty limited, especially if you weren't willing to shell out like $300 more for the CD add on.

It had some pretty dope games, though. Obviously, you will be limited with the US library. I always had a soft spot for it.

Sadly, they have capacitor issues.

This is not to say it "objectively" isn't worth it, but New 3DS. (At least so far.)

I don't enjoy the 3D even when it's working, but I always get gadget bonery when a new revision of a console is released, and I would 100% absolutely have gotten one if Miku wasn't pushed back.

Now that Miku is coming out I've kinda cooled off, and load times aside, my 3DS XL will do perfectly fine.

Other than that I've kinda never dodged a bullet. I'm riddled with bullets. But I kinda know that, so I'm not too bothered. I have like four games for the Wii U, a console I bought at launch. I think I have 3 non-playstation plus games for my Vita. I'm all about technically "being burnt" by consoles. :)

Almost bought a Jaguar when I played Tempest 2000 on it, but realized there were only a couple other games (maybe) that I was interested in playing. Ultimately glad I didn't buy one. Plus, that controller...

I wanted a gamecube back in the day. Yikes.

...ha alright. This is one of those threads. Should've known with the xbox replies.

it may be "limited" but it is in no way comparable to the Jaguar or Lynx.

While the TG 16 is certainly better than both of those I'd also proceed to argue that the Lynx is also far ahead of the Jaguar. The gulf of quality between the (US non-CD) TG 16 and the Lynx is similar, IMO, to that of the gulf in quality between the Lynx and the Jaguar.

When I was around 10 or 11, my younger brother got to pick out a videogame at the toy store for his birthday. His decision came down to two games: Super Smash Bros and Superman 64.

I fortunately convinced him to buy Smash Bros. I don't think I was aware of how bad Superman was, but I had been looking forward to Smash since the story I read in Nintendo Power. That and the fact that it had multiplayer saved us from a poor decision. And to be fair to Superman 64, the box art is pretty rad.

I went to Target to buy a Sega Saturn in fall of '95. They were sold out. I walked one store over to Sears to buy one and they had a Playstation kiosk with Toshinden and Ridge Racer hooked up. I left Sears with a Playstation. (I bought a Saturn 17 years later and enjoyed some of its gems). The big bullet dodged: I was a massive Squaresoft fan.

The Order: 1886

I was going to buy it day 1. A few days before it came out I was gifted 3 months of Gamefly so I decided to rent it from them instead. I'm so glad I didn't waste my money on such a short, mediocre game.

When I was younger I really wanted a Dreamcast because my friend down the street had one. I decided it save money and get one. I never saved enough and never got one but that was probably for the best.

I remember I really wanted that Boogie game for Wii when it came out (I was 10 or so). because I liked the idea of a singing and dancing game for some reason. Needless to say I'm so glad I bought Wii Play instead.

Dodged a bullet by holding out for a PS1. Could not find them anywhere in the area on my birthday as a kid, told parents I would just go for a N64 instead, would have never been the gamer I am today if I had to sit through those games lol.

I dodged a bullet by buying Batman AK directly on Steam instead of a 3rd party retailer. Made it really easy to get that refund.

I was saving up to buy a 32X when my mom read it the paper that it was being discontinued. I put the money toward a Nintendo 64 instead.

Phillips CD-I
Played it later at a friends house. Was so bad.

between having a ps2 and xbox it would have been a waste of my (parent's) money. Nintendo has never really had much to offer me personally. I didn't mean for my post to come off as snarky or anything

I had a strange obsession as a youngin' with the Sega Saturn. Thankfully my parents stood their ground and I ended up with an N64 a year later. If I had convinced them on the Saturn, I doubt I would have be allowed to have ANOTHER console (the N64) so soon. Bullet dodged!

Dragon Age: Inquisition

First I was hyped because of the classic view and thought that maybe it will return to the style of DA:Origins. Due to a preview that wrote about fetch quests and other negative things I didn't buy it at first and waited for impressions. Reviews where shining 10/10s (like all Bioware games, so the reviews where mostly useless. Except 4players which mentioned things I also hate in RPGs) and then more and more people posted impressions of fetch quests, boring repetitve stuff, etc.. It was good to simply skip it, play more Dark Souls and wait for Witcher 3^^

Someone mentioned the Dreamcast, Shame on you!

But for a guy that buy almost anything thank god I skipped the Vita.

Destiny. So glad I was able to sell it soon after launch for 40 bucks after hitting level 20 and the stupid light mechanic.

Today i received Mushihimesama Futari 1.5 for the 360 and wanted to post a happy picture of it.

And then i realised this thread is about other bullets. ;c

More recently:
Destiny - there was alot of mystery behind this game pre-release, I never understood what the game actually was about. Thank you Bungie for the beta/demo - I wouldnt touch that crap with a ten foot pole.

WiiU - almost bought one late last year. This year, new games are sparse and a new system is likely on the way pretty soon.

I love Destiny, it was exactly what I wanted and I can't see understand anyone that played the Beta, saw the previews and expected something totally different.

It's ok not to like and good for you that you feel you dodged a bullet, opinions, but the whole mystery thing is bullcrap. Most games go through a 'brainstorming' period, things changed, I don't get why people crap on Destiny because the initial concepts showed some different stuff when the actual game they started to make didn't have nay of that. Development went through growing pains, like every new IP. things change.

Shame on you for skipping Vita! ;)

There is still time, but I haven't seen anything that really interests me. I got a PSP at launch and only enojy SF Alpha 3 and the Mega Man remakes, then sold it because it took years for cool stuff to come out. Never got to play the FFVII games.

Mine was the Saturn. Huge genesis, sega fan. Had sega cd, 32x, loved me some sega.

My high school principal had one. Played the crap out of Daytona., panzer dragoon, clockwork knight. I even rented one and played virtual hydlide, some others.

Had my money all saves up, then my brother comes home on thanksgiving break with a "Play Station". What the hell was this? He had Loaded and some game called "Twisted Metal", I was sold. Bought the PlayStation, still probably my favorite system ever.

I nearly spent my very limited funds on a Dreamcast because Grandia 2 and Skies of Arcadia looked great. Those ended up being among the few games I would be interested in, and both were ported to other systems later - phew!

Xbox One. I bought one thinking that most of the issues are fixed and boy were they not. So glad I got a complete refund of the system while I had the chance.

I came in here to say Game.com as well. I know why I wanted one: it had a Sonic game, and I was still in full-on hardcore must-buy-everything-Sonic phase at the time. I never got it, however.

This was for the best, as Sonic Jam on the Game.com is basically the worst Sonic game out there. Which is saying something, in a world with 2006, Genesis (the GBA port of the first Sonic) or Boom: Rise of Lyric.

I was hyped as fuck but as soon as reviews aired, I got sceptical so I borrowed it from a video store. Turns out, reviews are correct once in a while. Game was a disaster.

Xbox 360. That was my original console I wanted to buy last-gen but didn't have the money to throw at it until later. (Thank you, PS3 launch shenanigans...)

In the end, I chose a PS3 because of no region-locking and free online. Not to mention it had been price dropped and was the same price as a 360.

Ended up buying a 360 anyway, a few years after for like $100 (with a few games). Frankly, the only reason I still have it is because me and my roommates use it as our FIFA/Halo machine. I own literally no games for it (barring Halo 3/ODST, Forza Horizons and Gears 1&2). To be honest, I'm glad I dodged the bullet on the 360 originally. I haven't found a single 360 exclusive that I really wanted to play apart from Halo 3. Kinda sad.

Despite it's failure, is it still a good system with some good games at least?

Yes. What ultimately failed Ouya the console was Ouya the company. They took so many wrong turns during the first year that it's hard not to laugh. The product itself is pretty good for what it is: a console the size of a Rubik's Cube that spawned Towerfall and plays host to a bunch of great indie couch multiplayer games, and works with a variety of accessories. For that reason, it's a great party console, and my launch unit has provided us with a ton of laughs at work. It also is a pretty competent media and emulator machine, and a Moonlight streaming box. I bought mine primarily for Android game development, and knew what its scope was going to be. People who bought into the Kickstarter hype, well, they really shouldn't have.

I skipped the awful brick that the original DS is, getting the Lite later on.

I also cancelled my Spore preorder, even losing the preorder money (which got you the creature creator, the best part of the game, so it's OK) because of draconian DRM. Turns out the game wasn't exactly the incredible experience we were promised.

I wanted a NeoGeo Pokect Color as a kid soooooo badly
I still do

The NGPC is awesome, even if it only has like two good games for it. But it's worth it for the Capcom vs SNK games (both the card game and the fighting game).

Crazy thread.

People that "dodged a bullet" on an Xbox for example missed out on Ninja Gaiden, the defining action game up until Bayo 2.

People that "dodged" the GameCube missed out on Metroid Prime and the REmake, two of the finest games ever made.

People that "dodged" a Dreamcast missed out on arcade gaming's last stand with Soul Calibur 1, a metric shit ton of prime Sega and Capcom stuff and that incredible shmup library.

And so on...
