Games or Systems you dodged a bullet on.

Dodged a bullet with the PS Vita.

I was lucky enough to pick it up a month or so after it launched. Glad I did. Had I waited and gotten caught up in the generally bad reputation the handheld has gotten from people who haven't used one, I may have also decided to forego getting one myself.

I would have missed out on a great little device. That was a close one!

Atari Jaguar (64 bits!)
I saw Val D'Isere skiing on a Jaguar kiosk setup in Sears. I was blown away by the graphics. In retrospect I'm glad I didn't get one because it would have been a waste of money.

This thing was pretty cheap, and that game collection! Sonic, Duke Nukem 3D, Resident Evil, Mortal Kombat, Fighters Megamix, etc.

I never knew how shitty the games actually were until recently when I watched YouTube reviews. I knew they sucked, but damn they are BAD.

And LOL at the people who "dodged" the Saturn and N64.

When you have no money, there are no bullets to dodged. :^(

I convinced my friend to pre-order this and then I myself chickened out. I got real lucky and the friend did not.

Vita, loved the PSP and the hardware itself is great but the system and library didn't really take off. Waiting paid off.

With games I dodged a few bullets thanks to PS+, like the last Hitman game. What garbage that was.

I was going to buy this day one and 2 days before it came out I watched one of the Colonial Hicks trailers, got an uneasy feeling, and cancelled my preorder and decided to wait.

Thank god.

The updated PC version of this game was a pretty decent fps.

Although I did actually buy the HD-DVD kit for the 360, as soon as word broke that Blu-ray was basically going to win out, that thing hit eBay so fast! LOL I made most of my money back thankfully. Had I waited, it would have likely turned out much worse.

Crazy thread.

People that "dodged a bullet" on an Xbox for example missed out on Ninja Gaiden, the defining action game up until Bayo 2.

People that "dodged" the GameCube missed out on Metroid Prime and the REmake, two of the finest games ever made.

People that "dodged" a Dreamcast missed out on arcade gaming's last stand with Soul Calibur 1, a metric shit ton of prime Sega and Capcom stuff and that incredible shmup library.

And so on...

PS4 probably, I pre-ordered one within minutes of E3 conference announcing the price, but decided against it a few months before launch because of how many games I had on PC that I wanted to play and how few games on PS4 at the time that I wanted to play.

I probably would have gotten it, played a couple of the around launch games then have gotten bored and sold it, saved me the trouble really, it'll be nice to eventually get one in next couple years when there are a bunch of cheap games I haven't played.

Oh yeah, and I almost bought a Wii U once.

The Sega Genesis + Sega CD combo. It was a choice between that and the SNES. Thankfully, my brother won the argument and we got an SNES.

Destiny, I wanted to try that game despite I'm not really into FPS games.
At one point considered buying the CE, glad I didn't.

When I was around 10 or 11, my younger brother got to pick out a videogame at the toy store for his birthday. His decision came down to two games: Super Smash Bros and Superman 64.

I fortunately convinced him to buy Smash Bros. I don't think I was aware of how bad Superman was, but I had been looking forward to Smash since the story I read in Nintendo Power. That and the fact that it had multiplayer saved us from a poor decision. And to be fair to Superman 64, the box art is pretty rad.

Exact thing happened to me at 9. Had saved up money and was taken to the store to buy a game. Guy in there talked wonders of Superman 64 and really wanted me to buy it, was almost convincing my dad too. Thankfully unlike most boys my age I didn't give a damn about superheroes. Came back home with the first installment of what ended up being my favorite franchise in gaming.

I almost bought Elder Scrolls Online. I don't know if it's gotten better since launch, but when it was released I heard that it sucked.

System wise, nothing. I've owned them all and the only one I never owned (Neo Geo) I wish I had.

Games wise? Eh...plenty I guess. Battlefield and every incarnation of it probably first that springs to mind. Ditto Need for Speed.

Xbox 360. Was about to sign a new contract (T-Mobile) and as a gift you could pick a laptop, 360 or Ps3. My uncle was the first one to make the jump so he was the only one in the family with a next gen console (this was back in 2007 I believe). Loved playing on his 360 (mostly CoD4) but decided on the Ps3. Glad I did, didn't want to miss the great exclusives, free online play (back then it could have been an issue for me), and the Ps brand just left a strong impression on me coming off the Ps2. Didn't care for the 360 exclusives, later on my uncle (two of them actually) also bought a Ps3 as did my nephews so we enjoyed playing together.

PSP Go. I wanted one so bad back in 2011, to the point that I started saving my meager $20/mo allowance to buy one. Fortunately I caved on a 3000 when I saw it at Gamestop for $80.

Yeah all TWO games. Advanced Warfare's campaign was decent, ghosts was entirely shit.

I tried to forget about AW and Ghost...thanks for the reminder. Damn, it was so good and fun to play. Mw2 was crazy, now it is all...ugh. They should just remaster Cod4 and MW2 at this point.

The Saturn. Wanted one pretty bad when it came out and wanted to upgrade from the Genesis to that. Held off for about a year,w ent to rent one at my local Blockbuster but all they had was the PSX... So, instead, I bought a PSX later that year, and thank heavens.

I am in the complete opposite boat. I did get a PS1, and while I absolutely loved it, I really regret not owning a Saturn during it's lifetime. Saturn games are so freaking expensive now, and they were so cheap at the time.... argh.

Honestly, I don't really regret owning any systems. You get the right games and it can be worthwhile. Hell, even the Ouya was worth it for Towerfall, Duck Game, Bombsquad, Hidden in Plain Sight, etc.

I guess I'm glad I never had the OG Xbox, it just wouldn't have suited me.

Almost bought a Nokia N-Gage... Dodged a rocket, never mind a bullet.

Me too man. I think I had the box in my hand even at some point. It was the original taco model and despite how advanced the phone seemed, even at that stage in my life I realized I would look like a total weirdo walking around with that monstrosity. At that point I hadn't even seen the origin of the side talkin' meme website mocking how absurd it looked to use as a phone.

I think like 2 weeks later the improved one came out but it wasn't long after that the writing was on the wall for that epic misfire.

Mom thought it'd be a better idea to get a PS2 instead of a GameCube back then, since I had a PS1. I ended up getting the PS2.

I'd buy a GC years later from a relative for not much at all, and I do love it and its games, but the PS2's library just can't be beat. It helped that it was the only console with any real shelf presence here.

I wanted a Game Gear with the TV tuner sooo bad when I was younger. Apparently it sucked.

I probably would've loved it anyways, though.

In most recent memory it was probably Aliens Colonial Marines, but the bullet was dodged for me since I was going to buy it on Wii U and that version got cancelled. As far as systems go I really wanted an NGAGE because of the online games, thought that sounded so cool. Then later realized that I was good with my DS. I eventually did pick up an NGage a couple of years ago and I'm really glad I never got one at launch, because yikes. So abysmal.

When I was little I originally wanted an N64, but my dad bought me a PS1 instead after asking his students which one to get. So glad he did. I mean the N64 was great, but the PS1 had a much better and more diverse lineup imo. Cartridges were also really stupid (and stupidly expensive) compared to CDs.

But Devil May Cry 3 came out on PS2 and wasn't named Ninja Gaiden

Was this guy trolling the customers?

Mega CD.

I begged my mum for a Mega CD for my birthday, I didn't know anything about it but it looked really cool in the picture in the catalogue. She got me a PS1 instead.

Alien : Colonial Marines. I almost bought into Pitchford's bullshit. If it wasn't for me needing to buy a new pair of glasses that week I would've bought it...

Neo-Geo SINGLE speed CD consloe: It was painful spending 200-350 per game for the cart system so thought this would be good for a replacement . Thank god the guy at Penguin Village told me about the 2 min load times. That would've been a nightmare !!

I almost bought Battlefield: Hardline over Battlefield 4 because they had "special reloads" over the latter. They just looked cool, but I chose BF4 instead because I heard beforehand that it wasn't that good.

So, you have lived an unhappy life?

And, for the record, I don't dodge bullets. I am a bullet sponge when it comes to video game systems.

ActionMax? You bet! Intellivision II? Of course! Jaguar? Love T2K and Cybermorph. 3DO? Who needs to eat for a month!?!

PS Vita I think, for the rest I always do my research and don't mindlessly pre-order so it is rare that some shitty game caught me off guard.

PS4.

Granted I knew what I was getting into earlier this year when I bought it for Bloodborne, but it's really disappointing there aren't more exclusives worth getting. Everything else is far superior on PC. I even have 11 fantastic exclusive games on Wii U alone and I still haven't gotten Smash Bros yet.

Sega CD
Sega Saturn

Those were the two I was planning on buying and thought that the Saturn and Nights was the hottest shit since someone put sliced bread into a toaster. Looking back now, I'm glad I went with the Playstation.

That guy must have just been a jerk because anyone who has played Superman 64 knows its awful from the first level.
