Games released recently that were quickly forgotten about

This isn't surprising for a major single player title. Until we ether get DLC or an expansion, there isn't much a reason to return once completed unless you are trophy hunting.

It's still a fairly newsworthy title though, as it's become something of a showcase title for the system. People still talk about its story, art, gifs, etc.

But it's a pretty long game even if you don't do everything. I thought it would have lasted longer.

The Last Guardian (just a few people cared about this game lol)
Horizon Zero Dawn (Zelda put this game in the shadows forever)

Wrong on both counts. This very forum voted TLG as the 5th best game of 2016, and Zelda hasn't eclipsed Horizon in the slightest. They're both very good games for very different reasons.

And besides that...
Halo Wars 2

...the correct answer was already stated a while back.

I always advocate this, but if you want to get amuch better pulse than the extremely niche GaF, use Google Trends.

Set to 60/90 days, set to US (or whatever territory, but don't do worldwide), add 4-5 new releases, select either google or YouTube search depending if you're curious about purchase intent or content consumption, and boom, there you go. General interest level comparisons with data support.

Mirror's Edge Catalyst is a good choice here. Man, did that game not make an impact. Came and went like a distant jet.

I saw this from miles away.. not even the first one got much attention outside of it's niche following. I am surprised it got a sequal.. if anything the cool commercial was more interesting than the actual game.
The first game was on a system tjat barely had anything at the time and ended up being free on PS Plus for a year so of course that game would make a splash. GR2 just released and disappeared completely. Do people even know ot had a free DLC story lol?

Horizon Zero Dawn (Zelda put this game in the shadows forever)

Zelda didnt do the slighest of damage whatsoever to Horizon.

Neither in Reviews or in sales.

Its all in your head, honestly.

On topic; For me, it was that Ready At Dawn game that recently came out & nobody cared for, from a top profile studio. And RaD needed a hit to stay afloat. So I profoundly hope they come back strong with a sequel for The Order 1886.

As previously mentioned Gravity Rush 2 got he shot end of the stick. While it has its faults it's a pretty great game and it deserved better.

Another one is Yakuza Zero. It is one of the best games released in the year of great software and yet the West doesn't care reenforcing the whole "Yakuza doesn't sell" concept. It's a damn shame.

To be fair with Resident Evil 7, I clocked 24 hours with it, beat it three times and moved on. I assume this is far more than most people will ever do with it. It's a relatively short, linear, story-driven game. Once a good chunk of people have beaten it, and with no new story DLC for the moment, what's there to talk about? I think it ran its course pretty well.

Thanks for the Suggestion , here are some comparison, People talking about HZD are really far off.

halo wars 2 is the Actual right answer, its the red line.

I think RE7 as well.

It was a great game, everyone loved it but there wasn't much discussion to be had when it was finished. A few hours to replay it, get some achievements and trophies and were done. The free story dlc getting delayed as well did not help keep it in the lime light, but maybe could return it?

Halo Wars 2 for sure. Had no idea it was coming out when it did drop, then it was gone soon after, never saw anyone talking about it.

I think the flurry of games has been so strong and consistent this year that everything is getting buried by the next thing lol.

I would even say our lord and savior of JRPGs, Persona 5, got buried a bit at least in the no one is talking about it fervently type way, replaying it 6 times in a month ect. People beat it and moved on, or got it and are trying to finish other things then go to it.

Mad Max. I never hear it mentioned anymore and I thought that game was terrific. I'd of loved a sequel!

EDIT: Maybe its not considered that recent.

"Wait that released??" the thread.

Guys do you even read GAF?

Except of course for Mirrors Edge Catalyst, OT has like 25 pages, such a shame.

No, they are not.

That's relative to itself though. If 4 people are talking about it and that goes down to 1, it's a massive 75% drop off. It looks big but actually isn't numerically, and compared to other games it's smashing it.

Fair fucks to Last Guardian I think. Everyone saying that's disappeared but leaving out the fact that it released at least 2 months before any other game on that list.

No, they are not.

The game has more Noise around its launch window than three months down is not a Strange concept. Thats why i compared it with Prey and ME:A. It has done much better than Prey and just below ME:A , given the Later has a lot of controversy around it.

Point is the game obviously will not be talked around as much as its launch window, That doesn't mean the game is forgotten and that is why i said people are far off.

Well lots of people are answering TLG so I thought it would be better to include it also.

I was thinking about making a thread on this topic. This generation is full of completely unremarkable and forgettable titles that come and go with no noticeable impact whatsoever. Nothing has been released so far that shook or influenced the industry to the degree that Gears of War, Modern Warfare, Assassin's Creed, Oblivion, Bioshock, Fallout, Uncharted 2 or Mass Effect did. Maybe Breath of the Wild? Most blockbusters are designed so by the numbers that they end up being disposable and ultimately forgettable.

You should do it. There is good discussion to be had on that topic specifically. There are a few games that haven't necessarily influenced the rest of the industry(yet) but have had significant impact. There are only a small fraction of what we're used to seeing each generation though. Breath of the Wild, Overwatch, Destiny, and potentially Witcher 3 are the only ones I can come up with off the top of my head. There are a good amount of highly polished games such as Horizon, Doom, Forza Horizon 3 and Tropical Freeze that mainly did what they set out to well. I feel like Rainbow 6 Siege fits in the discussion somewhere too. There are big developers trying things, it doesn't seem like much is sticking though. We still have a ways to go though as many influences won't be seen for a couple years. We might look back at FF15 and Persona 5 release window as the inflection point for JRPG popularity at the end of the gen.

Reading this thread basically everything haha (Maybe individual tunnel visions). But yes Deus Ex. Although TLG deserves much more recognition.

A sequel to Homefront came out. Mirror's Edge 2, after years of demand, snuck out and everyone forgot.

Apparently there's a new season of The Walking Dead too.

Not joking. But this came out? I rather enjoyed the original.

Yeah, it was only ÂŁ25 in Argos the other week. I'm not sure if it was a budget title, or if it just did that poorly.

I'd say Bulletstorm Remastered was forgotten rather quickly, especially considering how fun the original was.

All those post about Horizon are just trolling...

plenty of OT activities, the screenshot threads are buzzing with Horizon screenshot, it's still in the charts, it's still being updated, plenty of let's play in twitch, probably an expansion news at E3 that will created extended buzz, and most probably shoe in for either 1st or 2nd runner up GOTY discussion in december.....how's that 'forgotten'?

the correct answer is probably is Halo Wars 2 (remember that game? i don't) and Prey (where's the buzz?).

By your logic about Horizon i fail to see how you can mention Prey. It is being updated, OT is often on front page, its got very good reviews, lots of people playing and sharing experiences, and its not another generic open world game that borrows bits from every other open world game out there like your darling Horizon either.

I think there needs to be a distinction made between conversation around a game running its course, and being forgotten about.

RE7 was talked about plenty, but at the end of the day it's a linear, relatively short single player survival horror game. The conversation has kind of been done, but I'd expect it to still feature quite highly across a lot of the GOTY discussion at the years end. Definitely not forgotten about.

Scissorclips

I think I'd actually suggest that Snipperclips is doing better than you'd expect for a small indie title; it seems to keep cropping up in anecdotes.

Although, on that note, that's got me thinking about Bye Bye Boxboy, which I've only just remembered had come out. And I love Boxboy! This may be affected by the fact that I've not bought it yet - I'm still finishing off DQ7.

Outlast 2

Reviewed well, but impressions from gamers were negative. Easy Allies stream ended with them cursing the writer over the credits, SGS hated it. The subreddit is dead and the highest rated comment on it is "what the hell did I just play?"

So how long is a game supposed to be talked about so its not "forgotten"?

TLG was voted #5 in our GotY awards despite releasing in December and was discussed for weeks after launch. With single player games people will move on eventually. Same thing with Horizon. People played it, enjoyed it and moved on. That doesnt mean its forgotten.

Fire Emblem Echoes maybe? I feel like it's not turning as many heads as Fates did.

1 - It's a Remake of a Japanese-only FE game
2 - Only 2 months removed from Heroes on mobile
3 - It's on 3DS
4 - People are looking to FE Warriors/Switch more
5 - It came out last week

I think releasing it so close to FE Heroes hurt it the most, honestly

Dishonored 2.

Honestly I'd give a pass to any games released within the last few months. So many great games have been released in that time.

1-2 Switch

is probably a worse turd than Nintendoland back in its day.

we'll see which one sells better in the long run
