Games that are, and will always be perfect.

People are just posting their favorite games. I can name obvious flaws to most games mentioned here.

I don't look at those games as perfect. I just look at those games as not being bested in the way they shine the most.
RE4 for instance offers gameplay unlike any other game out there. Nothing else plays like it. And it is close to perfectly balanced. And I don't think Capcom will ever do better.

Planescape Torment also has its flaws but there isn't a game out there that is better written imo. And I don't think we will see one in the near future. So that is also as close to perfection as we will get.

Quake 3 is pretty much perfect imo for what it is trying to do. But that's mostly because of its simplicity.

Half Life is an example of what every linear shooter should look like imo. Most FPS developers we have these days could still learn a lot of the way the original half life was constructed. Somehow it was all linear but it doesn't feel linear at all.

But almost no large game out there with a complex world and mechanics is close to perfect. Those who could get close are those that make the gameplay as limited as possible. Because then you could balance it more. That is why arcade and old school 2D games or indy games could more easely approach perfection like for instance a game like chess. Because they have less things they can screw up. They just have to balance the core mechanics. Which usually aren't that very complicated.

That is also why some 3D Zelda games are so impressive imo. Because there is no other series out there that combines so many different gameplay elements/mechanics and manages to balance and polish them like it does. All other games that have the pollish that a game like zelda has are usually far more specialized games.
