Games that had the biggest emotional impact on you?

Not really an emotional impact, but the campaign from Call of Duty 4 lead me to doing weeks of research on Chernobyl and Pripyat. The "before and after" comparisons make me wish the event never happened.

1, Steel Battalion - Line of Contact

I fought in a real war and piloted vertical tanks after work every night. Amazing experience, more immersive than anything before or after by a factor of 10x.

2. Moonmist c64 - amazing text adventure. Like living in a book. Youre a guest at haunted mansion while theres a party and youre trying to solve a murder. Period piece. Best graphics ever cause it was all imagination but interactive. The eery setting and noire style struck me...

Red Dead Redemption had a huge impact on me. The ending stuck around with me for weeks after completing it. I almost shed a tear. Maybe one. Okay fine, several.

Assassin's Creed 2
Red Dead Redemption
The Last of Us
Journey
God of War 3 (waiting 3 years in finally kill Zeus)
Mass Effect 3
The Walking Dead
Metal Gear Solid 4

proto man from mm3 is a true bro.

cs, pso, gw, since i met a lot of good friends there if that counts.

ffx/x-2 was emotional, but i'm not sure that impact was lasting.

the company of myself is one of the few "artsy" indie games that i didn't roll my eyes in discontent while playing.

Believe it or not Dragon Age: Origins kind of shook me with "my" ending.

I was in full on roleplay mode with my female elf rogue.
I hooked up with Alistair since he was awesome, made him king and here we are at the end getting ready to kill the archdemon. We have a conversation on whose to kill it since only a warden can(I'm pretty sure, its been a while) and I pretty much tell Alistair that he needs to be king, that he has responsibility ect. He fights with me for a bit and I put in my last remark telling him that I won't let him die and he just tells me "You say that as If I'm giving you a choice". Cut scene appears with Alistair finishing off the archdemon, which destroys himself in the process...

I get too much into roleplaying games. :(

You should now go on to play Call of Pripyat.

Halo 4
Getting to see more of Chief's emotional and human side, and seeing Cortana go :(

Gears of War 2/3
Dom and Maria's story... Something about seeing a big tough guy cry.

Mass Effect 3
It was so sad seeing the end of that story arc. I absolutely would not let ANYTHING happen to Garrus. Our last "best bros" moment before the final mission killed me.

Journey
Of course the whole ending sequence... and the music, Apotheosis and I was Born for This.

The Last of Us
Carrying Ellie through the hospital. The dreamlike scene and the beautiful music. I was so happy when they both came out alive.

Final fantasy 10. I cried when I knew Tidus wasn't coming back. Hated 10-2 but needed to play it so that I could feel whole again. Looking back, I think it was all just hormones from growing up.

All of the KH games sans RE:Coded (never played)
FF7:Crisis Core- The ending is so sad, even though I knew what was going to happen.
Red Dead Redemption- The ending got to me.
Journey- was going through a rough spot in my life and it helped.
MGS4- The nostalgia got to me, didn't tear but put pure joy on my face.

Now why would you say that?

Dragon Age Origins is filled with powerful moments. One of the best RPGs of this gen for sure.

Flower.

I felt so many emotions playing through the game, I can't even begin to explain them properly. I felt sad at points, lonely, happy, I sat in awe, never frustrated, never bored.

As the credits played I had tears in my eyes, and I don't know why. I was a wreck for most of that day, neither happy nor sad, just a mess.

It was just so... Beautiful.

Edit: More games

The Last of Us
That whole damn game. Although specifcally when Joel is given the photo of his daughter...twice.
Final Fantasy VII
Cait Sith at the temple, even more-so than Aeris's death
Heavy Rain
All of it
Ni No Kuni
The Mum's death rattled me even though I knew it was coming. Also the whole game had a sense of sadness and wonder to it that made me feel like a kid again

Persona 4 for me too. Forging all these bonds with the people and the town, to only end up leaving them. Makes me wish there was an epilogue where I could always visit them.

Probably The Darkness.

That one scene just hit me unexpected. Very well done by Starbreeze.

To the moon was very emotional too. I almost shed a tear at the end.

Journey - Such a refresher, I like to go through it every couple of months.

Nier - The story, coupled with the amazing music and tragic characters, definitely had me feeling more and more involved through multiple play-throughs.

Shadow of the Colossus is probably one of the most emotionally driven games I have ever played, not necessarily happy emotions, it also was driven but sadness, rage, fear and most of all, regret. It had a huge impact on me and this is why I am even more saddened that we will probably never see The Last Guardian see the light of day :(

Fahrenheit
Some of the set pieces made me feel like playing an interactive movie. Full of awe and epicness.

Half Life 2
Dat episode 2 ending.

Twilight Princess
The ending sequence and the music that accompanied it made me both happy and sad.

Shadow of the Colossus
Truly epic heroic soundtracks amplify the game's experience

A bunch as a kid, but the most recent examples for me are

Metal Gear Solid 4: The microwave scene and ending overall was fantastic. The post first-credits scene was beautifully presented and was a fantastic way to close out such an iconic series.

Persona 4: One of the very few games that gave me game withdrawal upon completion. An addictive adventure with a likable cast coming to a close like that was pretty sad for me.

Virtue's Last Reward: Luna ending.

Saya no Uta: Goddamn, was there some upsetting shit in that.

And to a lesser extent:

Danganronpa: Nothing super emotional specifically, I just liked it a lot and went through another minor case of game withdrawal upon completing it (though nowhere NEAR as bad as Persona 4).

I'm emotionally fucked in lots of games... for various reasons. Too many games to list, but the obvious ones:

MGS-series tears me up all the time. I love pretty much every introduced character and seeing them troubled in any way makes me even more attached to the world.

Diablo 3... Emotional for completely different reasons.

Dark Souls... Read above :(

1. MGS 4
2. Kingdom Hearts
3. .hack// G.U. Vol. 3
4. MGS 3
5. FF VII: Crisis Core (;A;)
6. 999/VLR

All aboard the feels-train! /◕ ◡ ◕ /

Persona 4 - Same reasons as previously stated. Edit: And actually, as a quick addition: even though I knew it was coming, Persona 3 (Portable)'s ending was unexpectedly bittersweet and very well played.

Half-Life 2: Episode 2 - Everything about the last 5-10 minutes in that game is amazing and the way earlier parts play into are also great.

The only two games to have truly emotionally impacted me.

Grandia - Going through half the game enjoying every moment
until Sue starts gettng ill and you find out she's too exhausted to continue travelling. Watching your characters say goodbye to her as she's sent back home was heartbreaking.

Shadow of the Colossus and The Last of Us. So many moments in TLoU but I think the one that impacted me the most was
the end of winter when Ellie kills David and Joel calls her "baby girl." Never have I seen a seen carry so much emotion and handle it so well in a video game.

Super Mario 64

I was a kid, but when I completed the game and got that big star....I almost cried. Defeating Bowser at the end, flying around the star-shaped battlefield, THE MUSIC....it was too much for me at the time. Haven't got a feeling like that in gaming since, and that was like 14 years ago...Just can't replicate that

Final Fantasy IX
Final Fantasy XI (The whole experience can be described as a journey to maturity where many friends came and went.)
Journey
Ni No Kuni
The Last of Us
