It sounds strange, but at the time I thought "they're never going to make a game as mature and epic as this again"... like it was all gonna go back to mascot platformers, etc.
So I quit gaming and I actually missed out on Chrono Trigger because of it! But in 1996 I caught up again. Got CT, got SMRPG, got hyped for the upcoming FFVII.

A certain part of videogaming died when the Dreamcast died. Arcade style games have never really been the same since.seat said:I quit games for a long while when Sega gave up on Dreamcast. I really thought video games had died that day.
it sounds like my experience was a little different. I played it a lot for a month, but it wasn't that it sucked up all my time, it's just that it's so manipulative -- willingly, almost brazenly so -- that suddenly you feel like the video game rug has been pulled out from under you and a team of of cold-hearted psychologists at Blizzard have exposed the dreadful money-machine that drives everything you do. Then you're left cynical and bitter and wondering why anyone would pay money to press buttons on a controller.sphinx said:but do you people mean that WoW was so fucking addictive that you had to quit gaming all together for a while when you gave up on it before being able to enjoy other forms of videogames later on?
is it that bad?
it kinda sounds like.. traumatizing.

I think I played about 100 hrs over the course of a year (thats a lot of time playing a single game, but not nearly as much as some people spend playing WoW). I dunno, WoW was never able to work its crack like grip on me like Diablo II did.
Well quitting gaming because of FFVI was not a rational position to begin with..jeremy1456 said:There were more 'epic' and 'mature' RPGs released before FFVI.
Ever played Phantasy Star II - IV?
Even Secret of Evermore meets your qualifications, and a ton others.
I get the feeling that nostalgia clouds the minds of FFVI fans.
