Games That Make 30FPS Feel Good

I was surprised to learn that Halo 3 ran at 30fps. I remember it being smoother than some 30fps games we have nowadays to the extent where I thought it was 60fps.

Generally speaking any slow-paced game can get away with being only 30FPS.

But other than that, even the best-case 30FPS game with the lowest possible input-lag will never be nowhere near as good as worst-case 60FPS title.

I'm not a PC gamer so 30fps has always been standard to me.

I certainly notice the difference when playing 60 v 30 but I can't think of a game I've played where it's ever been an issue. I'd much rather play a game with a solid 30fps than one that aims for 60 but continually drops below it.

If you look at the likes of of Driveclub and Forza Horizon 4, games that really demand quick reactions and responsiveness, I think you'd be hard pushed to say that they're not perfectly playable at 30fps.

30fps is horrible if you've gotten the taste of prolonged 60fps gameplay. 30fps only feels good if that's all you know.

Playing DA:I on PC atm. Game is silky 60, cutscenes are clunky 30.

"Ah, I've defeated that mighty dragon! Now, for a small cutscene to celebrate my vicJESUS CHRIST WHAT IS THAT OMG SAVE THE FRAMES SAVE THE FRAMES"

I don't have an issue with my 3DS games being 30 fps, because...you know....inferior hardware does that.

If it's stable, it's just few hours to get used to.
A cheat/hint. Lock a game to 15 fps with rtss and play for few minutes. Then lock to 30fps and it will feel amazing :D
But if You do other way around from 60 to 30, the 30 will feel terrible. It's all about perception and getting used to it.
The controls help too. Controller is better for 30fps because mouse is very sensitive and it's easier to feel You are playing 30fps.
And motion blur. (good motion blur) helps a lot.
I went from 240hz to 60hz 4k and it was not a big deal after few hours.

Haha you're right, I never thought about the 15 to 30fps trick! I should definitely try it sometime.

this is a big thing

to me, solid 30fps is more than fine for anything thats not competitive FPS

Not really. Only so much motion blur can help tbh. Combat in Horizon will benefit from 60fps+ so much

Are you mad?
not saying that 60 isn't better obviously, but these 2 are the games that personally feel very fluid even at 30 fps, and i hate playing at 30 fps, i have a pc for the remaining 99% of non-exclusive games.

Maybe it's because I don't give a damn about multiplayer but I've never understood the seething hatred for 30 FPS.
The games play just fine. Unless you're a hardcore competitive "oh God! I need a 144Hz display for this to be playable" gamer, 30 is fine.

For me, it's not hatred, but every game is better at 60fps or preferably higher, as it is just more responsive and playable. Even games I love, they would be better at a higher framerate.

Destiny.

In case I didn't have any issue playing any solid 30fps.
60fps makes it better? Yes but it is not a deal breaker.

Crash remakes feel good, because you're kinda used to that frame rate. Makes it more nostalgic even. Same with Spyro.

Killzone 2.

Along with that input lag. Weird controls, but getting used to them was fun. Never played a game that felt like that since.

We should also talk about 50fps sometimes. It's very underrated.

RDR2 at 60fps is too much for my GTX 970 to handle at console-level graphics settings. In that case, targeting 50fps works really well instead of halving the frame-rate completely.

Dead Space on PS3, it was 30 FPS but very solid and felt nice.

tbh, I prefer 3rd person titles in 30fps. Trying The Last Of Us at 60fps felt weird and on PC with many games, I just kept it at a locked 30 if the option existed. I'm ok with 60fps on FPS titles or racers, but on 3rd person games, I'm completely fine with 30fps for that film feel.

LOVED how Dead Space felt!

Nearly all single player games at 30fps absolutely fine, they don't elevate a game beyond what it is. 60 fps is something I only demand in competitive / multiplayer shooters.... like Uncharted 4 is 30fps in single player and jumps to 60 in multiplayer, that's the right way to do it.

Destiny pisses me off that it does not aim for 60fps.

However generally the difference that 60fps makes to single player games is massively overstated, it is marginal...a 'nice to have' but not essential to enjoy the game... TLOU vs TLOU remastered is case in point.

Animal Crossing New Horizons feels good, also Luigi's Mansion 3. But after gaming on PC@ 5120x1440@120hz it's little rough to go back to Switch. But after 30min couldn't care. More fps is always better.

Shadow of the Colossus without a doubt. It gives some ethereal feeling which is lost when passing to 60 fps.

On the opposite, for God of War I preferred the visual solidity given by the performance option.
