Games that share the same engine and look eerily similar because of it

I don't really want this to be an "Unreal 3 the thread" type of thing (unless you have hilarious examples) because that engine is able to produce unique looking games as well as samey ones. But if you're gonna post UE3 stuff use screenshots at least lol.

There is one example I want to focus on

Back on the GBA we got the amazing titles of Golden Sun and Golden Sun 2, what's funny as hell is that these games also share their engine / assets (because camelot developed both) with goddamn Mario Gold Advance Tour.

The visual and audio similarities between the two games is FREAKY AS HELL

Golden Sun

They share the same yes/no dialogue prompt, tons of textures and assets and even sound effects.

Hell if you watch the opening sequence https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DfD8zZETVH8 which is the first couple minutes of this video you'd think it was ripped right out of golden sun.

Even the over wold of golden sun and the course overview of mario golf look remarkably similar. Especially the character sprites. The dialogue sequences are the same between the two games as well.

My favorite is that the spell effect when you hit a ball in mario golf is a scaled down version of the spell effect when you cast Gaia Blade.

Is that Mario Golf game an RPG too?

I always thought it was an arcadey golf games a la Hot Shots, Camelot's original golf series before being bought by Nintendo?

There was a Mario Golf RPG on the Gameboy Color, even. Made by Camelot.

And a Mario Tennis RPG, too. Two of the best games on the GBC.

All of Platnuim's HD games.

The Wonderful 101 doesn't look anything like Metal Gear Rising.

Dying Light gave me serious Far Cry 3 vibes when I first played it.

Jungle vs Slums, though... I see the relation, but the environments are so strictly contrasted, still. FC3 is lots of green and blue, with a vibrant color palette, DL is lots of brown and grey, with a very muted palette.

Killzone 2 looks nothing like those...
That's because it's Killzone 3.

just because they have the same shaped gun sight, doesn't mean they look the same. KZ2 has such a distinct art direction. Blood on the screen comparison meh too.
Even though I agree they have a lot of differences, I wanted to post the pic because probably someone would eventually. Not wanting to derail, but last gen had a "me too" problem with FPSs.

Alpha Protocol looked shockingly like Mass Effect, down to the skill trees and ladder-climbing animations. I know, everyone and their mother uses Unreal. But I'm willing to bet that BioWare lent them a lot of tech.

I suppose this one's unfair, but I liked it. These don't share the same engine - fundamentally, they share the same game

I recall Total! magazine, when they reviewed one (I *think* Spot), explicitly stated in big letters that this is the same game as the other, and did some quite cool screenshots with a line down the middle so one game clearly and visually segued into the other. Wonder if I can find those shots.

Oh my god lollll, it's literally the same game covered up by new sprites. I love stuff like this for some reason. It's almost like it tells a story about the development history / the developer.

Is it me or does this seem to be the case with every side scrolling indie game released. I.E. abstract art, shadows, and, artsy level design.

Is it the GameMaker 6 engine look or me?

Don't know if I the same engine but I've always enjoyed the fact that Capcom's Nightmare Before Christmas: Oogie's Revenge was essentially a version of another of their games.

Devil May Cry

Not Capcom made but interesting as well, The X-files Resist or Serve.
