Games that you think are vaporware at this point

BattleBlock Theatre--always playable at shows/conferences but always "coming next year". You'd think with all that Castle Crashers money they could afford to put a Flash game out in less than 4 years.

Skulls of the Shogun. For some reason, journalists have been hyping it for years even though it looks like a pretty standard indie light strategy game... the only difference is that it never comes out.

The studio head was on an episode of the 8-4 podcast recently and said that it's launching alongside Windows 8. Sounded like it was very nearly complete and in the stages of final polish.

Half Life Ep/3 was the first thing that came to mind. I want to believe it isn't true though.

Everyone needs to stop saying The Last Guardian. It's not true.

JUST SHUT UP.

:(

Ueda in limbo, executive producer leaves to join up with hipsters, and no word except for the dreaded "in development" answer. The only thing I'm left wondering is whether Sony will dismantle Team Ico slowly or just get straight to the point.

Sorry I'm having an emo moment right now.

Judging by the way he worded that answer to the question, it still sounds like (if Ricochet 2 is HL3) the game isn't even confirmed for release or not. It just sounds like technology being made which could eventually become HL3 or could even be converted for use in a different project like another left for dead or another IP even.

It still doesn't sound like HL3 is set in stone and has a projected development cycle. But that's just my opinion with the facts I see presented in front of me.

It was almost done but their offices flooded and development was on hold for a while because of that.

Further to this, you can extrapolate this when Valve announced they were abandoning the episodic approach to the Half Life series which was around May 2011.

Say this decision was made early 2011. If the game has a 2 year development period from that point...

I think Valve have two overarching concerns:
(1) Upgrading the Source engine.
(2) How future hardware releases impact on upgrading the Source engine.

Half-Life 3 exists you fools.

Believe.

One of the biggest vaporware ever is Kingdom under Fire II but few people mention it alongside games like Versus XIII or TLG.

The Last Guardian (I bought a PS3 for this too)
FFVsXIII
Agent
Prey 2 (loved the footage we saw before but haven't heard anything since)
Every nibris Wii game

Last Guardian is Sony's Pikmin 3. The die hard fans want it. It was eventually come out... it's gotta. Even if we have to wait for the next generation.

Wasn't there supposed to be a Coded Arms game for PS3? Also there was a PS3 game from Sega called Fifth Phantom Saga that was an FPS with possession mechanics. Steambot Chronicles 2 seems to be vaporware as well. All three were E3/TGS 2006 games and we haven't heard about them since.

Also, Elite 4 seems real unlikely at this point.

Metroid Dread, maybe? I'm holding out for this E3 - if not there, then it's vaporware.

Metroid Dread isn't vaporware. It was canceled before it was announced. We only know about it because of a leak.

There will be another 2D Metroid at some point, but it won't be Dread.

Final Fantasy XIII Versus seems like the biggest one of this generation.

Also people getting their hopes up about a Kingdom Hearts 3. I don't see how that'll happen, since they're not done Versus, but I don't know - Square Enix has been really poorly managed this generation imo.

Elder Scrolls Online...

Can't really count it since it was just announced. But that definitely is a game that should either be massively retooled, or taken out back and shot.

Can I say Respawn game, given that it's been years and we've seen/heard nothing about it, and there are no indications we'll see or hear anything any time soon?

I don't know why so many people think Agent is vapourware. I think it will be their next game after GTA V, possibly be shifted to next gen depending on when the next consoles arrive.

There are probably loads of presumably vapourware titles which can't be anounced till after the next gen consoles are revealed.

I could see this, except that they seem to be hinting that Bully 2 will be the next Rockstar game. I know that they've talked about the Bully series a couple times in recent interviews.

Unless that's a different studio?
