Games where you build things

I Was There! Official L Receiver 2/12/2016
I'm a big fan of games where you build things. Examples:
-Minecraft
-LBP
-Bridge Builder
-Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts

I'm trying to find some other games to sink my teeth in. Any ideas?

My Sims I guess

But it's a really shallow game apart from the building possibilities. Like... really really shallow.

Kerbal Space Program

The game has come a long way since this video was made.

The previous update, .23 added the Asteroid Redirect Missions (ARM) which were created with the help of NASA. In addition to being able to now track and intercept asteroids,
several new extra-large rocket parts, modeled after NASAÂ’s new SLS rocket systems, were added. You can build bigger than ever!

Whether you want to build your space program from the ground up in Career Mode, or push your computer's CPU to its limit with 800 part ships in Sandbox mode,
KSP offers endless possibilities. Everything from sky-cranes big enough to land aircraft carriers on Laythe, to zero-G basketball courts, to space ship launching catapults have been built in KSP.
If you can dream it, you can build it and (attempt to) fly it.

If you have PS Move then Tumble is actually super underrated imo! (although it's more stacking than building I guess...)

Shoutout to Kerbal Space Program too!

I've been playing the 7 Days to Die Alpha lately and it has been scratching that itch for me. It is a lot more survival/crafting compared to just building.

DayZ , if you play Epoch or overpoch or whatnot. (The arma 2 mod)

Not the standalone yet.

Some people have absolutely insane bases in the mod.

Spore would probably be your dream game. You can build monsters, buildings, cars, boats, space ships, and if you buy the expansion pack, even worlds and levels and stuff.

The only thing I can think of is Sim City but I don't think fit what you're looking for.

There's also Mario Maker but that isn't out until next year.

All Trackmania games have Leveleditors (and Replay- and Skin- and...) but Trackmania United (and United Forever) has a gamemode built around it, where you first need to finish building the racetrack.

Space Engineers. Built space stations, big ass spaceships, mining vessels etc. Form factions and fight each other. Basically Minecraft with spaceships.

This game is insanely fun. My buddy and I have been playing this. Some hilarious moments especially if you're playing in Creative mode. We plan on setting up our own dedicated server at some point.

SpaceChem, SpaceChem, SpaceChem.

I love the fact that it's a puzzle game that doesn't feel like it has set 'solutions' but instead lets you loose with your creativity to try to achieve the given goal. And as a result of it, you're *proud* of what you've created

My baby. My ugly ugly - yet beautifully functional - baby.

Dark Cloud series - the whole concept of using materials harvested from looting dungeons and defeating monsters to build a town, which in turn provides for more power-ups and is needed for plot progress, is absolutely genius.

Artdink made two games about engineering buildings and managing construction.

The first is HR2 (NEC PC-98), where you have to manage a small army of robots tasked with building a skyscraper; you can program them in a reduced variant of the C programming language, but micro-ing them work just as well.

The second is Hanamaru Builder (Windows 95), a home building-sim. It's about as silly as it looks and reads: a game where you take contracts to build homes, managing a small workforce along the way.

I actually got in on the early access for this. It was rough a while back. I should grab a newer version.
Just to make sure we're on the same page, I'm referring to this:

Apparently there's a spiritual successor called Contraption Maker; is that what you're talking about?

I second Terraria, and I'm not even a big fan of building/sandbox games. It's easy to lose hours and hours exploring that game, digging, building, gathering mats, and crafting. The gathering, building, combat and bosses give you a raison d'etre so it makes sense to do all of the activities together since they're all connected (build a house that a NPC will occupy, which sells an item you can use to summon a boss, which drops materials to craft new armor/weapons etc.).

However once you have all the things the game kinda burns out, but it's a fun ride.

Great recommendation.

Does anyone know what happened to the mini-robot genre? Space Chem is a very close relative. There were a few games where you would select parts and create rules for their operation. Are there any good new ones out? Some were racing related and some were fight based.
