Games Where You Knock People off Cliffs

My vote goes to Red Dead Redemption. I had so much fun wrangling innocents and pushing them down hills and stuff. There are a few cliffs in the game, but not that many unfortunately. Also, I'm nominating the "push" move in RDR for "best move ever in a video game".

And yet, strangely appealing to the masses. I mean, who doesn't enjoy throwing people off of cliffs
in videogames
?

I wonder if this has any psychological implications?

I think it's natural to wonder what the sensation of falling from a great height would be.

I think it's also natural to want to share this experience with others.

What? Stop looking at me like that.

man, i know lemmings are suicidal, but they don't have to show them jumping off a cliff on the front cover :\

Smash Bros was the first thing to pop into mind for me, but somehow I don't think that's really what the OP was going for.

There are also a few battlegrounds in Bushido Blade 2 that have some really high areas, and you can kill enemies by forcing them back until they fall off. It's...actually really satisfying to do.

In prototype you can carry someone up a building and then toss them off.

I was quite the sadistic bastard in that game.

Call of Duty: Black Ops - I got blown out of a window by a shotgun blast at point blank range on that high rise map. It would have been embarrassing if I actually cared about such things, though I bet the guy that did it got a laugh.

Not sure if they still allow it, but:

World of Warcraft -> Shaman -> Elemental -> Thunderstorm -> Eye of the Storm Battleground -> Flag spawn area

I know they nerfed the area in which you could kill people by knocking them off and into space, but it still worked a year ago. By far one of the funnest things you can do in a videogame.

in Wind Waker you could throw the pigs off the cliffs and they would scramble around trying to get back to land. I discovered that picking up the pig with a puddy patch on him made him continuously fart green gas into the air. I couldn't bring myself to chuck that one off the cliff.

i used to do this as too, even took the fat pig to the top and tossed it off the back of the island.

i love tossing people/animals off cliffs but it's only rewarding if you can see them hit the bottom.

"Fus Rou Dah'ing" people off cliffs and mountains in Skyrim is super satisfying. Same with Ice Form where it turns things into a block of ice. Sometimes when they tumble down the mountain, they glitch and start flying erratically across the screen.

PSI-Ops. Especially taking over enemy control and making them throw themselves off the cliff. Oh my god, I'm grinning just thinking about it. So incredibly fun.

There is also many opportunities in me2 and 3 to use throw on a lifted enemy to throw them off objects to their death. At least 1 place you can do it in ME1 during the Liara recruiting mission.

Much like the OP I was disappointed in the way the Batman games handle this. And it's not like they couldn't have allowed it, they just didn't want to because it would have made some scenarios too easy. So they decided that a strict gameplay rule set was more important than fun.

No its cause Batman doesnt kill people by kicking them off buildings.

The Warriors (the PS2/Xbox games, not the terrible XBLA one) had a mode you could unlock that involved fighting on a rooftop. You had to get rid of a rival team of gang members by throwing them off the roof. Even better, you could run and flying-cross body into people in suicidal fashion to knock them off. I managed a couple of times to knock two people off at once doing this, so good.

When Skulls of the Shogun releases, it'll allow you to Ring-out opponents when you get a specific buff. Kinda borrowed from Nippon Ichi's SRPGs, but it's nice to see it carried on.

And yeah, I used to REALLY love tossing enemies off cliffs in Double Dragon. Or landing that perfect jumpkick where you pass through the enemey, knocking him off, but you land RIGHT on the tip, having turned around, which stopped the momentum of your jump, since you're obviously an AWESOMELY SKILLED MARTIAL ARTS WARRIOR.

Really wish Vindictus was on consoles. The drama in it's wall-smashes and throws is just the kind of thing I love in gaming.

It's those little touches that always makes me feel that people who call games "repetative" don't always take advantage of the quirks of a game. Sure, Double Dragon was just a game of "walk right and beat people up", but the freshness was always dependent on HOW you did it.

Beat people off cliffs with Linda's Whip? Run the enemey to a section with pits, and then try to meat them mid-jump with a jumpkick, as they jump over to you? Try to throw enemies INTO each other, and use them as weapons? Clump up as many as you can, and then use the awesome spinning helicopter kick to send them flying in every direction? Just free-form fun.

Any beat 'em ups with death pits. The Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, and Double Dragon series are favorites for this, but my favorite of all time is Renegade.

Whenever possible, I like to push AFK players off cliffs in Halo Reach matches.

Jedi Knight 2 and 3. Force Push, Force Grip, or, even better, a combination of the two.

Man, I loved that train mission in Jedi Academy for that reason.

Came here to post this. Jedi Knight 1 had it too, though you had to do it indirectly (use a high-powered explosive attack and the shockwave can send enemies flying.) Of course, JK's expansion Mysteries of the Sith added Force Push, aka "multiplayer matches are now that much better."
