In the wake of all the big budget games that were broken or disappointing, and the sea of holiday sales from various retailers, I'd like to take a look back at stuff we gambled on paying full price for--and managed to strike gold:
Dynasty Warriors 8 XL ($60) - I'm a HUGE fan of the Dynasty Warriors games, so I immediately pounced on the chance to play it on PC. Almost 100 hours (!) later, I know I got my money's worth--PS3 graphics be damned.
Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor ($50) - This was a game that I just sort of shrugged off before release. But one of my co-workers couldn't stop gushing about it, and I didn't hear about any crippling bugs on PC, so I ended up buying the game a week after launch.
It's an absolute blast. It's been so much fun it ended up being the first full priced game I bought a Season Pass for. Looking at my Steam library, I've already spent 175 hours on it without noticing. O_O
Lethal League ($14) - This wasn't nearly as big a gamble as the other 2, being cheaper and having an amazingly fun demo I played to death. But with 5 extra characters, a tweaked and expanded gameplay system, and solid netplay, Team Reptile did an amazing job. I'd easily recommend picking this up.
What games did you pay full price for that were worth every penny this year?
