Games worth every penny at full price in 2014

In the wake of all the big budget games that were broken or disappointing, and the sea of holiday sales from various retailers, I'd like to take a look back at stuff we gambled on paying full price for--and managed to strike gold:

Dynasty Warriors 8 XL ($60) - I'm a HUGE fan of the Dynasty Warriors games, so I immediately pounced on the chance to play it on PC. Almost 100 hours (!) later, I know I got my money's worth--PS3 graphics be damned.

Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor ($50) - This was a game that I just sort of shrugged off before release. But one of my co-workers couldn't stop gushing about it, and I didn't hear about any crippling bugs on PC, so I ended up buying the game a week after launch.

It's an absolute blast. It's been so much fun it ended up being the first full priced game I bought a Season Pass for. Looking at my Steam library, I've already spent 175 hours on it without noticing. O_O

Lethal League ($14) - This wasn't nearly as big a gamble as the other 2, being cheaper and having an amazingly fun demo I played to death. But with 5 extra characters, a tweaked and expanded gameplay system, and solid netplay, Team Reptile did an amazing job. I'd easily recommend picking this up.

What games did you pay full price for that were worth every penny this year?

Destiny was worth it for me considering the amount of hours I put in.

Divinity: OS is probably the game that stands out the most though, bought it day one and was incredibly impressed with the depth of interactivity the world and combat had. Can't wait to see what Larian produce next.

The Bayonetta Collection on Wii U is unbeatable. It's such a stupid good value, it feels like you're getting away with something you shouldn't be.

The Orange Box was, and still is, the fucking king of value.

What if I told you you could get the same experience for less than five dollars?

With UK prices? Nothing was worth it. I bought a lot this year too, not next year.

With regional pricing, it's a lot different, too bad they're cracking down.

Will be waiting for major price cuts on everything but the most essential next year (GTA V, and Evolve as I'm hooked - though it's going to be pretty bare at release and use dlc to flesh out the game with monsters - 3 monsters in base game).

For me: Shovel Knight, GTA V on PS4, Danganronpa 1,2, Tomodachi life and Persona Q. Spent way too much time with all of them this year.

Diablo 3 UEE.

People are probably tired of me mentioning it but it seriously has been my most played game this year, and I think it's excellent.

Also Binding of Isaac! Got it on PS4 when it was free on Plus. Certainly worth the price I paid! Haha.

I've probably put 3-400 hours into D3, and 50+ into BoI.

For me personally:

Tomb Raider
TitanFall
WatchDogs
Destiny
Shadows of Mordor
The Evil Within
CoD
Far Cry 4
Halo

Bayonetta 1+2
Sunset Overdrive
Smash Wii U
Forza Horizon 2
Last of Us Remastered
Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes(WOULD HAVE BEEN WORTH IT AT $60. HOW ABOUT THAT! COME AT ME)

I'm sure there are more, but that's what I picked up this year.

Lethal League is one of the best indie games I've ever played. Glad to see it in the OP.

I'm so sick of the game at this point but I definitely got my money's worth.

Dragon Age: Inquisition, I'm getting a lot of enjoyable hours outta this motherfucker. I'd paid $40, but wouldn't of been mad paying $60.

Bayonetta 1+2
Sunset Overdrive
Smash Wii U
Forza Horizon 2
Last of Us Remastered
Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes(WOULD HAVE BEEN WORTH IT AT $60. HOW ABOUT THAT! COME AT ME)

I'm sure there are more, but that's what I picked up this year.

I'll get my $14 bucks worth of amusement out of it on PC, when all is said and done, but that sounds so crazy lol. I like Metal Gear, but not that much.

I haven't played Bayonetta 2 yet, but I would feel bad getting this cheaply. I mean...both games in HD with better performance than B1 on PS3.
B1 has better performance than 360, even. Framerate is about the same as 360, but the smooth Vsync makes it a markedly better experience.

Dark Souls II for me, I mean there is a lot of grumbling about whatever small disappointments people may have but the reality is that I bought it twice at full price and have gotten like 300 hours out of it, there's no way that it isn't worth it.

I also bought Wolfenstein for full price with no regrets. Obviously it can be found cheaper now but it was just a tight, polished, classic shooter and I wanted to support what the devs were doing.

I think all of the 4 games I bought full price this year:

Dark Souls 2
Mario Kart 8
Bayonetta 2
Super Smash Bros. WiiU

Really enjoyed all of them, worth the price I paid.

Dragon Age: Inquisition. The game is absolutely massive and a blast to play. Dragon Age 2 felt like you saw everything there was to see in a few hours; DA:I you can put in 60 hours and still have tons left to explore.

Sunset Overdrive. For me it's the most "next gen" game I've played in this generation.

Buying Dark Souls II at full price right now would be remarkably dumb, considering the new version coming next year with better graphics and the DLC.

Dragon Age: Inquisition. At 95 hours in, it's the longest I've ever spent trying to finish a single playthrough in a game. And I've enjoyed every minute. Add to that the multiplayer, and it's easily worth $60.
