Games you Disliked Yet Continued to Play

In .hack//Link the same few dungeons throughout the 20+ hour long game were extremely boring and yet I clenched my teeth and somehow finished it, just because "it was .hack".

Come to think of it, the first tetralogy and the G.U. trilogy suffered from the same problem, but it wasn't nearly as bad as in Link.

Edit:
Ah, yes. FF XIII too.

FF VIII
FF XIII
DQ VIII
Blue Dragon
Tomb Raider
Perfect Dark Zero
Ratchet & Clank Future Tools of Destruction
Kingdom Hearts 2
Twilight Princess
Mario Sunshine
Banjo-Tooie
Half-Life 2

...I don't know why I force myself to keep playing through games I don't like.

Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword. I dunno why, but I just kept playing till I got stuck forever in the pyramid level in the hardest difficulty (forgot the name)
In hindsight, I should have just beat it on Normal, and maybe with the girl character, and leave it at that. Game was incredibly repetitive.

Xenosaga II.

Horrible system but I needed to complete it to fully grasp the Xenosaga Trilogy (yet I still have to complete III).

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, I hated it, I still hate it, and will hate it forever, character animations suck, it's uninspiring, frustrating, boring, repetitive and the gameplay is so damn boring. I remember that game's AI as the most cheap, unfair and annoying I've played against this whole gen.

Why did I finished? because I thought it would get a little better as I kept on, and then I kept on and on, by the time I realized, I was playing the final boss, and it never stopped to suck.

I wanted to stop playing Bioshock 30 minutes in and continued to play it for another 2 hours because of internet hype. Game sucks.

Infamous.
Eugh.
So damn glitchy and frustrating an experience.
This too.

You know first time I played bioshock I got like 3-4 hours in and I didn't like it. Got it on pc cheap and tried again and loved it. I loved every second of Infamous.

Final Fantasy XIII. I wanted to know the ending so I kept playing despite the torturous tunnel syndrome I had to experience. Glad I finished it, though.

Why are you playing games that you dislike?

Not trolling, I am just curious.

You can't know whether you like or dislike a game until you play it. Besides that, some games take time to get better.

Played it too the end, but man was the talking puppet heads bad.

L.A. Noire.

Was waiting for it to get better. Never did.

last major title for me, too. once i began to see that the game was more about charging someone/anyone rather than actually getting it right, my interest plummeted. only finished it to make sure it was as consistently messed-up as i thought it was :) ...

Halo 3
Halo Reach
Mercenaries 2 (to a point)
Resident Evil 0
Final Fantasy XII
Final Fantasy X
Smash Bros. Melee
Condemned: Criminal Origins
Kingdom Hearts
Wind Waker (I find myself wondering if I would dislike this game still... I think it was more disappointment with this one).

There's probably more.
And my stupid ass will probably try Halo ODST someday.

Dragon Age 2. Hoped it would get better as I went. It did the opposite. In fact, the last act of the game felt like Bioware was specifically mocking me, as it was the worst, most implausible, deliberately bad gaming content I've played this gen. Not hyperbole, really really hated it.

I finished Perfect Dark Zero even though I enjoyed almost nothing about the single player portion... I guess I just had to help justify the 60 bucks I spent on it.
You bought the "Collector's Limited Edition" on launch also? I should of settled for the normal edition at $49.99. On that note whatever happened to MS policy of pricing their first party X360 titles at $49.99? PDZ SP was painful, I enjoyed MP though for what it was.

When you test games you come across a few you dislike and keep playing.

Personally If I dislike a game I give it 10/30/60 minutes (depending how much I dislike it) to see if I start to like it. If I don't like it still then I stop playing, I might trophy whore a bit to get some easy trophies, but I'm not gonna drag my sorry ass through an entire unpleasant game.

Games I've disliked that I have spent the most time on (Because I really want to like them)

Eat Lead: The Return of Max Hazard
X-Blade

Final Fantasy VIII. It wasn't even the game so much as it was the terrible, revolting main character and his vapid love interest. And the story. Haha. Finished it because I love FF. But not this one.

Infamous. Those Reapers have scary good accuracy FROM TEN BLOCKS AWAY.

I prefer my 3D Mario games to be linear do I hated Sunshine but I continued to play just to do the challenge levels. It was worth it IMO. Also Sims 2 on the console. Terrible terrible load times but my old PC was crappy so I dealer with it.

FFIV Advance. I tried to trudge on through the insanely annoying random encounter bullshit, and I've stopped playing for the time being. Kept going in the hopes that it might become less annoying, but it didn't happen. ugh. Buyer's remorse indeed.

Wanted: Weapons of Fate. What a fixking shit game. Bullet curving was cool for a level. Glad I paid $4 for it. Easy 400 points I guess.

Dante's Inferno. Terrible. Trudged through it though. Hated the boring enemies that took forever. If they were fun to fight, I would have had fun. Also.... Fuck having me fight waves to turn a lever then fight a miniboss all just to have an underling undo my lever turning so I can fight another miniboss to get back to the lever. Awful design.

I'm currently playing LA Noire and my feelings 11 hours in are pretty much the same as at the start, I just don't like it. The game mechanics are clunky as hell, there's horrible glitches all the time, the interrogation scenes are almost comical at times and the main character is an unlikeable dick.
Yet somehow I keep playing the next case, I guess the overall story and setting have me hooked...but the actual game is bad.

Also Mass Effect. I've tried to play that game so many times, I think I've created about a dozen different characters since I bought it on release...yet after all this time I've never been off the citadel. Every few months I always seem to put in and get bored and repeat the same process over and over :/

Came in to say this. Was like 2/3 of the way through the game when I had already told myself "Fuck this I'm done", but still pushed through the last 6-7 hours just so I didnt have yet another unfinished game sitting in the backlog.

Played it too the end, but man was the talking puppet heads bad.

Definitely this game for me. I played until the very end and just stopped. Some of the worst damn voice acting I've ever heard.

Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep - Loved KH1 and KH2, loved to death CoM for the GBA but hell really something didn't click there...

Chrono Trigger - Bought the DS version.. played 8-9 hours then stopped. Really, I tried to like this game but I can't bring myself to play it again

Crysis - I love this game but I really suck badly at it and after some time it became a pain..

The World Ends with You - Hated the battle system, stopped playing

Super Paper Mario - Loved PM1 and PM2 to fucking death. Paper Mario 2 is one of my favourite games of all time. Yet, SPM was saved by the story and the script, but the gameplay didn't click. Finished it because really, the amazing script/characters made me go trough that.

Assassins Creed 2...

It never clicked for me as badly as I wanted it too. Honestly, I didn't have much fun with it at all but kept telling myself it would get better. For me, it never did.

Condemned 2. Compared to the original, it feels like a much weaker game and past a certain point, it seems like they just gave up on the story. At least the original waited until the very end to jump off the deep end; the sequel starts right from the beginning and gets worse from there. I feel foolishly obligated to finish EVERY horror game I can get my hands on, though, so not only did I beat it, I also snagged all of the single player cheevos. Bleh.

To say nothing of Alone in the Dark: Inferno on the PS3. Such a letdown compared to the earlier AitD games (even The New Nightmare, which was mediocre at worst), loaded with annoying glitches and game mechanics. The cherry on the crap sundae for this one was not giving me the gold trophy for completing the game without skipping any of the episodes... which I did. So the thing glitched me out of a trophy, and I'll basically need to play through the game again to get another chance at it. Fuck that.

GTA IV: So bad compared to its predecessors, there's barely any fun to be had here. Mos overrated game ever.

Metroid Other M: Continued to play? pssshhh more like continued to watch. It was filled with awful cutscenes and awful decisions when it comes to art design, music, gameplay and level design. This whole game was an awful decision.

The first 50 Cent game: my brother bought it and I played it on one very boring day. G-Unit is the Kiss of hiphop with all their fictional storylines and shit. The game itself was also pretty fucking bad.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm really getting an, it's not the game, it's the genre vibe from you here. I mean BbS had alot more RPG'eque tendencies than KH 1 and 2, and Chrono, jesus christ. I agree with you on Crysis, as that's still in my backburner, but TWEWY? I don't know man, are you something of a casual, or reluctantly casual RPG fan?

Some of these guys are hitting the nail on the head though. Mine were:
Elite beat agents: Just couldn't do it, I know, hate me. I'm not really a fan of the genre.

Patapon: How is this fun? Someone please, for the love of god, tell me how this is fun.

FFXIII: Corridors. Many, many corridors, and a mostly unlikable cast. Would have preferred if they were all just joke characters. Combat was just a novelty too; would have enjoyed fucking buying/finding my own weapons.

God of War: I could not, for the life of me, suffer through the first game, but I was told it was somehthing akin to the next coming, so forged on regardless. Did not deliver. At all.

World of Warcraft pretty much. On and off. It was a love and hate relationship. The worst times are usually when I am an officer or guild master.

Resistance 2, that game was a chore to play. The game was unneededly difficult in some sections, the leviathan was a terrible and boring, super-scripted fight and the two weapon limit removed much of the tactical choice and fun present in the original resistance game. Worst of all no single player co-op.

Too Human was probably my worst experience of the generation. Fucking awful in every way possible.
FFXIII was awful too for reasons everyone already knows about.
GTAIV was a much better game than the previous 2 but it sucked balls as well. Saints Row 2 destroyed it.
