Games you Disliked Yet Continued to Play

I wouldn't call any one of those a "fantastic" Nintendo game. In terms of the classic Nintendo franchises - Mario, Metroid, Zelda - you've identified most of the low points, actually.

Err, TTYD, WW, and Prime are generally regarded as some of the best games of all time, and easily near the top if not the top in their series.

I platinum every game I play on my PS3, even the stuff I end up hating. Thankfully, either by luck or the fact that I can usually trust my hunches, there haven't been too many games for the system that I ended up destesting.

However...

There will always be Duke Nukem Forever. Fuck that game. The mere fact that on every difficulty level you have to cower like a little bitch because the Duke can't take a couple of bullets without having a near-death experience is bad enough, but on Insane mode? Eugh, all the games faults really shine through there. I got the platinum as fast as I could (a week) in the vain hope that I could sell it for a decent bit of money while it's reputation for being a shitfest wasn't widely known.

inFamous is another. Got it for free in the Welcome Back package. The more you get shot, the harder it is to make out what's going on. Constantly getting shot at in an open world that begs for you to be left alone so you can explore a bit. Wholly loathesome characters. Repetitive missions. Surprisingly poor graphics for a game that came out in 2009. Oh yeah, you better believe that second playthrough was pure torture.

Other than that though, going for trophies has been a mostly pleasurable experience!

Edit - Poster above me mentioned FFXII. I'm inclined to agree with that one. Not quite sure how I got to end of the world's most uneventful RPG, but I did somehow.

im REALLY disliking Fable 3 and LA NOIR but im still playing them just to finish them and throw them away.

LA NOIR may be technically good, but it has to be one of the most boring games ive ever played.

Stupid friends need to play other games online.

Get new friends.

On Topic:

Bioshock 2 was insanely hard for me to finish. I was so bored most of the time, which is weird because I loved the first one.

I beat that fucking piece of shit Holy Magic Century. Can't even remember the state of mind I was in at the time but that must have been really fucked up because I clearly remember how much the game sucked ass.

This phenomenon has exponentially increased since the introduction of achievements/trophies.
Absolutely ludicrous practice. I've also heard of people actually stop playing a game they were enjoying because it didn't have trophies.

I just don't get it.

Eternal Sonata. Everything about it was fantastic, except for the horrendous story. Forced myself to play it all the way through and regretted the decision.

Alpha Protocol for sure. I found the storytelling mechanics interesting, but hated frustrating RPG modifiers to accuracy of weapons and such. Got better later, but let me tell you, it was a fight until the end.

Test Drive Unlimited 2

So close and yet so far away from the real deal. The physics aren't quite satisfying enough, and the online integration is spotty at best, but...

Its the only game where I can shop around for lovingly crafted cars, and take them for hour+ long drives through beautiful countrysides, in the day, night, sun or rain, on the road, highway, dirt trail, or open country. I spend way too much time just driving for fun in this game - not to beat records, not to win championships, but just to relax and take in the sights.

Its still got one of the best and most unique gaming premises out there and I hope the series can continue until they truly nail it.

Resistance 2. I *must* complete games.

So much this. What an irrelevant and generic experience but I somehow finished it as well. I liked the MP tho, it was a lot of fun with dozens of people killing each other. I traded it in for Assassin's Creed 2.

Also, PES 2011. Worst thing is I still play it occasionally and always leave disappointed.

Precisely what I had heard but for some reason, they just didn't connect with me.

:-0 I just finished that today and it was great! Different strokes i guess

I plodded as far as I could through God of War and I just plain don't like that game at all. I eventually had to stop because I was dreading playing it and being so damn bored.

Godhand

Mostly because of the frustrating controls. I grew to really hate the game, but still ended up playing through most of it. I got a kick out of the casino though.

Shadow of the Colossus

It's not a bad game by any stretch, in fact there were a lot of things I really liked about it. I still found myself constantly frustrated with the later bosses. The lack of storytelling was a real drag too. I can appreciate a minimalist approach (Flower is one of my favorite games this gen), but I was losing all motivation by the halfway mark and it eventually felt like a grind.

Killzone 3

I just found it bland, and I really had fun with 2. It just felt like more of the same only now you die a lot quicker. It got even messier towards the end when you're fighting that giant mech thing. The story was all over the place too with one of the biggest drop off endings I've seen since the 16 bit era
Press X to genocide. High five and cut to credits
. It sure was pretty though.

Im playing through Final Fantasy XIII again (because I never finished it the first time, got busy and forgot about it really close to the end). The game is just so sad to play. Once you get the full battle system and get rolling with it, its actually pretty enjoyable. The problem is that doesnt happen to disc 3. My memory was hazy and I remember thinking man Chapter 4 is looonng... but I think it gets better after this. Nope, it is unnecessarily long and boring for the next few Chapters.

Ugh whose idea was it to make the first 1/2 of the game a tutorial? I havent gotten to where the game starts becoming semi-enjoyable yet, but even when I get there I am going to hate this game. My good will for this game went out the door way earlier than when this game finally stops sucking.

Hey, I remember when I made this thread. Weird to see all the FFXIII choices now when I was considering putting XII in the OP.

Can't really add anything since making the thread, so I guess that's an improvement for me. There are definitely a few that I think are overrated and got bored of near the end like Nier, but it's not like I forced myself through it or anything.
