Games you felt were actually worth $60

Uncharted 2.
Between the single player and online, I've more than gotten a return on my investment.

I can't remember the last game (other than that) that I paid full price for.

gta4
cod4
fallout 3
mass effect 1,2
bioshock
uncharted 1,2
killzone 2
Bad Company 1,2
Gears of War 1,2
Batman Arkham Asylum
Far Cry 2
STALKER SOC
The Witcher
Crysis

and so on

there're ton of them, it's easier to remember games which don't worth 60 bucks

such as Splinter Cell Conviction PC

Monster Hunter 3.

Very few games get me this downright addicted. Occupying my thoughts at work, while I sleep, and consuming every ounce of free time I have. Thank goodness my wife plays with me or she would probably divorce me for ignoring her.

I'm usually happy if I get at least 40 hours out of it. But that's kinda hard lately since I'm not into pvp online gaming as much as I used to be.

I think it's more like "what games did you pay 60 or would have paid 60 for and felt completely satisfied with the product?"

In a nut shell, yeah. Games you felt satisfied with and at the end you said "this was totally worth $60"

Not enough LBP in this thread :P

I bought it for $60 bucks on launch day, the servers were broken and I couldn't play SP unless I disconnected my internet, couldn't get into any games with my friends that wasn't a horrible laggy mess, and they deleted all my favorite user created levels. While a fun game, I don't think I got my $60 bucks worth.

Fallout 3
Dead Space

Ice cold.

Valkyria Chronicles was the last game I truly felt was worth the $60 amount I paid for it, everything else was worth far less.

Right. Pachter was talking about how companies want to make you spend more money as you play more hours of a game. For example, if you are going to spend 60 dollars on a game and will play it for a 100 hours, then they want to make sure that you buy DLC and whatnot because that's just too much enjoyment out of a game for that price tag.

I would have to argue that companies are doing a bad enough job with satisfying me with their product altogether. Many, many times I play a game to completion but didn't feel like the experience awarded the price tag at all.

I would have paid $100 for Fallout 3 GOTY if someone told me I would get as much entertainment out of that game as I did. I'm still playing it once in a while just to rummage through D.C.

Since I have yet to actually pay $60 for anything this gen (aside from games that came with a shitload of plastic instruments) I'm going to have to say none. Ironically the games I've spent the most time with are games I paid virtually nothing to buy.

Such as:
FREE Elite Beat Agents - Gift card from TRU Super Mario Galaxy promo.
FREE Oblivion - Or $40 depending on how you want to break down the B2G1.
$5 Portal - I bought the Orange Box for $25 a month after it came out.
$10 Civ IV
$10 Picross

Uncharted 2.

Mario Galaxy 1 & 2.

The Orange Box.

Rock Band 2.

Red Dead Redemption.

World of Warcraft (has actually involved me spending hundreds of dollars if you take into account the subscription fees, but the fun/time spent with friends playing has been worth the $13 every month)

*looks over at shelf*

Yup, those are the only current-gen games sitting there that I still have from release.

If I can get 5 hours of really good gameplay than I feel like I've gotten a good deal. Time is my constraint moreso than money. I'll take quality of quantity any day.

demon's souls was worth every penny IMO

even against expensive top end AAA games, no other game was as captivating to me as Demon's Souls....Best game I've played in recent years since Shadow of the Colossus

My next closest modern picks would be Valkyria Chronicles and then Oblivian (when it first came out anyway...seems like many games have followed in its footsteps)

Other games might have had higher production standards and better graphics etc, but they're usually an upgraded rehash with standard variations of online modes. As good as those games are, I've been there and done that and from a gameplay perspective, they start feeling flat.

Gears of War
Call of Duty 4
God of War 3
Batman: Arkham Asylum
Project Gotham Racing 3
Elderscrolls IV: Oblivion
The Orange Box
Ninja Gaiden 2
Ninja Gaiden
Ninja Gaiden Black
Dead or Alive 4

Recently:
Little Big Planet

Older Games:
World of Warcraft
Diablo 2 (I paid $79 CDN for it in 2000)
Starcraft ($79 in 1998)
Metroid Prime

Mass Effects 1 and 2
Metal Gear Solid 4
NCAA Football 10 I've gotten more than my $60 worth out of that game.
Batman: AA
Modern Warfare 2
COD4: Modern Warfare
Borderlands
Dead Space
Oblivion
Fallout 3
Lost Odyssey

- Super Mario Galaxy (I would have paid an extra 10)
- Fallout 3
- Bioshock
- Mass Effect
- Mass Effect 2

And as of right now...Red Dead Redemption couldn't be any better.

(don't hit me)

- White Knight Chronicles
- Killzone 2
- Resistance 2
- Resistance
- Oblivion

Paid full price for all of them and very glad I did!

Uncharted 1&2
Infamous
Demons Souls
Mirrors Edge
FFXIII
MGS4
Oblivion
LittleBigPlanet
Condemned 1
.....

Actually I think I could go on for a while. Ive enjoyed this generation.

I remember getting to the point in Melee where I had played 1 VS match for every penny (4998, $49.98). That point actually came earlier than when the game alerted me because I actually bought the game for 30.00 or so.

In conclusion, any multilayer game that you log insane hours on.

A justified $60 price tag to me would be Deadly Premonition but I have bias against games with tons of money thrown at it because they appear half-hearted and over polished.

My list-

Modern Warfare 2
Modern Warfare
Halo 3
Assassin's Creed II
Uncharted 2

Most online multiplayer games that I intend to play for a long while are almost always worth it. Modern Warfare 2 I have put over 4 days on, so even with the map pack (and the new one that comes out next week) it is easily worth the cost.

So far:

Demon's Souls
Valkyria Chronicles

Everything else I could've bought for $50 instead of $60 like some of the PC games I own on steam which are worth a lot more than what I paid for them.

Dragon Age
Borderlands
Mass Effect Series
Dead Space
Risen
Dawn Of War II + Chaos Rising

Sp, pretty much everything I buy on day one.

Not that I paid $60 for either, but Persona 3 + 4 were games I absolutely would have considering I got about 100 hours of pure enjoyment out of each.

^ Persona 3 and 4 were the last two games that I thought was worth the money.

There are a lot of games I felt that were worth the full price I paid for them, I will mention just a few though:

Cod MW 1 and 2 (countless hours online)
GTA vice city, san andreas, gta4 (love gta, countless hours playing)
Halo 3
Oblivion
NHL 10

those were just a few quick picks.

Mount and Blade Warband was not 60 USD, so I don't think that counts.

I'll say MGS4 when I bought it along with a PS3. I bought a PS3 just for that game, and I will say that the experience was worth it. 500 Dollars in total with HDMI cable, and game.

MGS4... When It was done(I only played it once) I just laid back in my chair, just sighed. It was done. I made it. I was happy with the conclusion. Thank god I loved the ending.
Finally I could let the MGS series down. It was like a good old friend, who had been in pain for a long time, had died.
Sounds extreme, but I really cared more for MGS series than so many other games. To me, MGS4 was up there with MGS3, and MGS1.

It shouldn't be possible. MGS2 ran things off on such an insane note, that I thought the story was unsalvageable. I knew MGS3 was amazing, but it was a prequel. Even when playing 3 I knew that Kojima needed to fix this mess... And I was sure it was beyond him.

MGS4 delivered all the way. Not only that, it's western inspired new controls, interface upgrades, over-the-shoulder-shooting, cover system and third person camera and camera controls, made it the best gameplay experience as well.
I will never forget this game.

I am cool with MGS Rising and everyone else going down the crapper. Naked Snake and Solid Snakes story have ended, on a high note. Everything else they can do and screw up, does not concern me. It would be sad if they destroy Raiden in Rising, but overall, I love how the SAGA ended.

MGS4 was just not worth 60. It was worth the price of the PS3, and I went through that game once. I didn't needed to play it again. I just HAD to see the story end.

Dragon Age
Fallout 3: GOTY
Oblivion: GOTY

But I dont think games should be shooting for a $60 price tag anyways.

Uncharted 2 - Absolutely love the single player campaign, but the multiplayer modes is what really keeps me coming back.

It took 13 posts? For shame GAF.

There are too many to list. Most games I buy feel worth the price of admission.

Modern Warfare 2
Mass Effect 2
Dragon Age: Orgins
Red Dead Redemption
Fallout 3
Uncharted 2
Assassin's Creed 2
Batman Arkam Asylum

Valkyria Chronicles
Demon's Souls

Paid full price and I have no regrets. Still the most fun I've had this gen
