Games you were kind of interested in until...

I hoped you tried the right-stick, at least. It pretty much plays as an action game where you input commands such as in a fighter. Drawing on the touchpad is actually pretty suboptimal in most cases.

It was slightly better, but still very annoying and enough to put me off buying the game. Would have preferred if I could have switched my weapons with the dpad or something like most games in the genre. If it ain't broke yadda yadda

I was interested in Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 until I played the demo. Then the Edge review confirmed my fear that it would be even more tedious and bloated than the original.

Yeah...no thanks. I'll pick it up for less than £10 in a future Steam sale.

Was hyped for TW101 till I played the demo and oh god those controls. Having to draw a picture to switch my weapon in a character action game is just so nope.gif

Now that's a more legitimate reason.

Have you tried using the right stick though? Try the demo again, think of it as more of gestures in a fighting game as opposed to drawings. I find it a lot better that way.

Titanfall - The beta is fun as hell but it runs like garbage on my PC. Far worse than Far Cry 3, Crysis 3 or Left 4 Dead 2.

Watch Dogs looked amazing during the first reveal.

Then we learned console versions would look significantly worse even on PS4 and XBO.

Then every subsequent trailer showed even less features.

Then the graphics looked even worse.
Idk how I forgot about this. My hype has gone from 101% to -1% on this one.
I'm in the same boat. If they had released it the week after E3, I would've snapped it up ASAP. Now I barely remember it exists.

This one is your fault, OP. The game looks and sounds like a (spiritual?) successor to Xenoblade, precisely what everybody who played that game wanted. What kind of game where you expecting if you apparently didn't knew Xenoblade? The UI is ugly, I'l give you that, but even so looks like an improvement over Xenoblade.
I expected nothing besides solid gameplay that I could enjoy, especially since I never played Xenoblade Chronicles. I gave it the chance to sell itself to me on its own merits and it didn't do it for me.

I remember the first Zelda DS game, Phantom Hourglass.
I was like oh cool. Then I saw, "touch screen movement".
I played it for about 5 minutes and gave up. I hated it.

If you have a somewhat experimental control method, at least make the current standard and option.
Just give people a damn choice.

I was really interested in Watch_Dogs, but now I'm not. The strangest thing is that I can't even articulate why I'm not. I suppose maybe it was just a complete oversaturation of gameplay videos, trailers, and other sorts of ads that Ubisoft was shoving into our faces before delaying it altogether. What once felt like a fresh idea and new take on an open world game seems like Ubi has already shown all the interesting stuff there is to see. Their advertising actually had a negative effect on me.

I was super interested in FFXIV until I realized it wasn't the FFXI-2 I wanted it to be. Not just that they changed the combat mechanics around. I mean, I understand that a lot of newer MMO players are perhaps more interested in where the genre is going than where it has been, and XI's combat mechanics are ancient compared to the faster pace that MMOs take nowadays (although I personally ache for those old days). What got me was that XI was entirely centered around teamwork, with 2% of soloability (which, to be fair, has been increased quite a bit), while XIV was designed to be played as casually as you like, for accessibility purposes. Again, I get it, a lot of people don't want to LFG for half an hour and then grind exp for hours on end. But FFXI was pretty close to perfect in my eyes, and it's the only kind of MMORPG I really want to play.

Deep Down: Free to Play
Titanfall : Always Online
Destiny: Always Online
The Division: Always Online

Next gen is on a roll.

Wonderful 101.

Till I played Pikmin3 and thought "No way that game will be better"

No, no, no, no, no. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong.

I own both games and they are by no means similar at all. The aesthetic may make it seem like that, but it's far from it. If you own a Wii U, I almost expect you to have The Wonderful 101.

(At least try the demo on the eShop.)

For me, I was kind of interested in the Wii U JRPG "X". I hadn't heard much about it besides "JRPG with mechs and is somewhat related to Xenoblade"

...

Turns out the gameplay is some weird mash up of turn based combat and real time action, where the player character and party can move around, while the bad guys get delayed actions and reactions. That doesn't work for me, so when X comes out, I'll give zero fucks about it because I won't be able to enjoy playing it.

It's weird how many people got hyped for X without having any idea what Xenoblade is or how it plays. Which, just saying, is nothing like described here.

For me, I was excited about The Order 1886 until I (erroneously) found out it was a multiplayer only game. Interest died immediately. Conversely, when I found out that not only is it not multiplayer only, but that it is actually SP only, my excitement rose where it started.

I'm kind of feeling that way about Wildstar. I was super hyped for it (based on art and screenshots alone), but as the gap closes between it's potential release date and the inevitable fall release of WoW: Warlords of Draenor, I'm significantly less interested.

I'll still probably give it a shot though.

So you're upset that X, a spiritual successor (if not outright sequel) to Xenoblade looks like it plays like Xenoblade?

Some people deserve such disappointment... smh

I have no interest in the Xenoblade games, I saw a short preview for X and thought it looked great. Then that preview last week completed killed my interest just like OP. Awful UI and uninteresting combat with no feedback. You may be a fan, doesn't mean that we can't be disappointed by a game when you expected it to be something it's not, based solely on lack of information.

Racing game of any kind... okay you have my attentio...

without a cockpit view.

oh, nvm.

I was interested in Titanfall until I played the beta.
No cockpit view in racing games.
Offline only games with DLC. I will not play them until all DLC has been released.

i remember when Legend of Mana was first announced i was completely stoked. it looked amazing... then I read about how it actually played

ditto for Sieken Densetsu 4

MGS Ground Zeroes

Then the previews came that made me realize that it's just a 1.5 hour demo

TitanFall - No local multiplayer, always online, no single-player, limited maps.
Knack - Not the 3D platformer I thought/wanted it to be (this one is at least partly on me, though)
Final Fantasy XIV - Just started getting into the series via FFXIV, but the action game look of this one turns me right off. This one really only lasted he length of the trailer until the action-y stuff was shown.
Wii Party U - The apparent lack of decent single-player.

That kind of combat and UI had been shown in the previous two trailers, though?

LFG for 30 mins is generous. I remember LFG for 2 hours, getting one, wiping on the first pull and ending the night 3 hours later with less xp than I started with.

May FFXIV ARR reign forevermore.

Not really as in-depth as what was shown in the recent gameplay video.

Right, but it was still there if you were paying attention. I haven't even played more than an hour of Xenoblade. I'd argue, actually, the UI looked worse in the earlier trailers.

It just seems like it's more the difference between people getting hyped by quick cuts and loud music and seeing how the game would actually play. It's not a huge issue, it's just strange to me to see such push back against the title based on elements that have always been present in media for it.

Pretty much this.

I was even thinking of buying a Wii U for it and then send it as a gift for a relative after I'm done with it. :/

X until that Nintendo Direct. The combat looked so static and mundane I almost wanted to rip my face off.

Stand, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot

Hop in Mech

Stand, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot

It just looked like a piece of junk caught in the 80's. Now it might not be, but if they want to get me excited they need to show me roaming, questing, some fighting, exploration etc

Resident Evil 6. Previews did not paint a compelling picture especially considering the insane production, but I held out hope until I played the demo. Holy shit at the finding the car keys QTE. Even typing that out I'm speechless that someone thought that was a good idea and how PR sold Leon's chapter as a "back to RE basics" or whatever. I recently started playing it on PC, and it's not as bad as I thought (melee is incredibly satisfying) but I'm happy I didn't pay full price.

Killer is Dead: Looked amazing at first. Then the PR started. Then all the inane drama. At that point, I knew enough about the game to no longer be interested and suspect it was another Suda51 "directed" game that I would end up enjoying as much as NMH2/SotD.

The Order 1886 - no co-op multiplayer when I had been thinking this would be like Gears of War and was hoping for 4p co-op and God willing, Horde.

Deep Down - heard it's free to play. No thanks.

Lightning Returns - first trailer I saw made me think it played like Bayonetta. Then I learned it's just ffxiii's battle system with a couple slight tweaks. No thanks.

Mario Party: Island Tour

Until...

mario-party-island-tour.jpg

Until I saw that there was no "Nintendo Network" logo on the box. And then I learned through previews that there was no online mode, not even a simple "Mini-game" online mode (because we all know that playing a board with rage-quitters can be an hassle).

I was quite disappointed.

AC III - After going through many of the threads that talked about how terrible it is I figured I should just skip it.

edit: Rainbow Six Patriots. The story sounded like it could be pretty interesting but with the trouble the game has had I don't think it will be anything like that if/when it gets released.

X shoot etc

It's a shame Nintendo showed what they showed, I don't think it did them any favors. What they should have shown was a story trailer or an exploration trailer since that was the appeal for most. Not sure what they were thinking, I think they did far more harm than good. That being said, I have no worries about this game, it will be similar to Xenoblade which was fantastic, and not for its combat.

SimCity, until i heard of city size.
RTW2, until i heard of lag problems.
X:Rebirth, until.. well...

Elder scrolls Online- until I heard there's a subscription fee.

That is the good part. A sub means that the devs have a better gauge on the stream of income. If the game was F2P they might have a really bad month and might have to lay off people to compensate for the loss of revenue. While a sub will, after a while, become steady enough to where they can see how much people will be needed to support the game throughout the months.
