^ Last month's results based on March's thread.

Games in Red = Dropped
Games in Gold = Platinum'd/100%'d/etc.

Last month's brutal reviews

Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain 2: Awful controls, awful gameplay. It's Tomb Raider now, with awful combat. Dropped. Watched the story.

Prey: Felt very outdated. The inventory/crafting system was bloated and cumbersome for this type of game. Enemies were bland as hell (I liked the concept, but the execution was lacking in imagination at best) and they really half assed the FPS "feel" of it.

Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise: A lazy and cheap Yakuza. It seemed like the perfect match but you can tell they didn't put much effort or time into it.

Rage 2: (will not return, seen everything there is to see in 5 hours, the most bland unimaginative copy-paste open world game I've ever had the displeasure of playing)

Previous Threads

I beat Far Cry 4 + Valley of the Yetis, Void Bastards, Star Wars: Republic Commando, Cyrano Story, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter Redux (100%), The Surge, and Wolfenstein (2009).
No drops this time. The Surge and Ethan Carter were top-tier. Far Cry 4 was way underwhelming, its campaign was honestly pretty awful. The yetis DLC was easily a more enjoyable experience.

Lots of FPS there...

I recommend that Shrap play the superior Prey now :lollipop_smiling_face_eyes:.

Been itching to replay STALKER or something. Will probably be a while though.

Finished Yakuza 3 (Remastered)

Then got trapped in a Walking Dead loop:

The Walking Dead S1, 400 Days, Michonne, S2 and A New Frontier :messenger_grimmacing_

Gears Tactics just released at the end of April so I'll count it as a May game. I just finished the first act yesterday and I'm very much enjoying the game. It's not super woke but it did have a moment when it introduced a character and she was screaming about fascism. It just felt really out of place and forced, more like political commentary than being part of the story. The first boss was pretty tough and just a protip to those interested.. this doesn't spoil the story but I will mark it as spoiler anyway -
take out Brumak's guns first and close any e-holes that pop up. Keep your distance at all times. You should only see about 3 e-holes total, so once you've closed the last one that pops up start shooting the tanks on his back. Form your part in a large circle and keep him turning.

Last month's thread was the first of these I'd posted in so I didn't realise there was a "brutal reviews" section. Expect to see my name pop up a lot more in the future. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

I only played through two games in April as they were both big.

Finished FFVII Remake. I'm sure a few people have heard my disappointment with this one. It wasn't terrible but it still had modern Square-Enix plastered all over it. Awful dialogue with every anime cliche you can imagine, lots and lots of corridors, restricted movement/camera/interaction, garbage QTEs, constant cutscene interruption, a plot that unravels into overcomplicated silliness, a battle system with a schizophrenic camera that gives up on flying enemies and some of the laziest sidequests you can imagine... I could go on. On the plus the music was outstanding, the character models of the main characters were exceptional and it did look incredible at times. It was just inconsistent, poorly paced and fell to pieces at the end. Better than XIII at least. 6.5/10

100%'d Remnant: From The Ashes. It really is Dark Souls with guns. There is a lot more to it but it doesn't shy away from its biggest influence. The gunplay is incredibly satisfying, the gameplay is punishing but fair (most of the time), the weapon mods are a great mechanic that you can experiment with constantly and the usual exploration/loot/environmental storytelling of From Software style games is represented well. I liked how distinct each world was but with only 4 worlds there wasn't a whole lot to it and some enemies got pretty stale after a while. The last world seemed like they'd given up on challenging the player aside from the bosses. It was the nicest looking world in the game but I just blitzed it, especially after the brutal world before it. Graphics were decent but had the usual unreal engine issues of textures visibly loading in, it stuttered quite a bit and performance seemed to get worse the longer you played it. The sound effects were great but the sound placement was really bad, enemies sound like they are breathing down your neck when they are still a few rooms away. Anyway, overall it was a hell of a lot of fun and a refreshing change to pure gameplay after the frustratingly restrictive FFVII Remake. I really hope they make a sequel to this as there is so much potential here. 8/10

Spin Master ( NeoGeo)
Joe & Mac (SNES)
Knights of The Round (Arcade)
Super Mario Land DX (Gameboy Color hack)
Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge (Gameboy)

Cleaning out the backlog.
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons
Quantum Break
Halo Wars: Definitive Edition
D4: Dark Dreams Don't Die
Red Faction Guerrilla: Remarstered
SoulCalibur Legends (a little quarantine excercise)
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Dragonborn

Started and finished Metal Gear Solid 1. Also finished that short barely a game spiritual sequel to To The Moon called A Bird's Story. Maybe i'll start Finding Paradise soon, not sure.

Beaten & platinum
  • Duck Souls
A great little platformer, perfect difficulty and length of game
Beaten
  • Metal Slug X (PS4 port)
Superb, never played it before, arcade heaven
Dropped
  • Breath of the Wild
My 2nd playthrough, it felt a bit tedious to replay the same shrines and there's no story to keep your interest
  • Spiderman
I love Ratchet & Clank by Insomniac, but I didn't enjoy the combat or traversal very much, they're much worse than R&C. Also Spiderman is a dull character.
  • eFootball PES 2020
I kept rage-quitting when the opponent scored, this game isn't good for my health
  • Sniper Elite 4
PS Plus game, and became repetitive after the first level, I don't have the patience for stealth
  • Resident Evil 4
    Too scary

I dropped ReCore in the last dungeon. It was a frustrating mess and I wasn't having fun anymore.

I beat Superhot, God of War (2018), Resident Evil HD, Gears 4 (on co-op), and I just started FF7 Remake. Overall, its been an amazing month. I played 2 or my favorite games of all time for the first time (GoW, RE) and I have a feeling FF7 will join them.

Finished the second DLC for Borderlands 2 earlier this month. Otherwise it's been FF7 Remake that I haven't finished yet and won't today, and Animal Crossing that never ends.

First time I'm doing this folks. Take easy.

Beaten

Batman: Arkham Knight
My review: Is a good Batman game after all, as I'm a old fan of the series, of course I ignored oranges. So my only complain are the batmobile and the stupid auto-saves. IMO Batman Arkham Knight have the worst implementation of auto-save of this generation.

Doom 64 all throphies
My review: Just love old Doom series. The games comes even with options I love to explore like change AA, cheats, warp, etc... While people are hyped about Doom Eternal, I get this game day one. Played on n64, tried on PC via Ex and now this.

Started and finished FF7R, I'm still playing it btw. Let me be more clear, I can't stop thinking about this game.

Dropped Monster Hunter World.

Busy month for me! I wonder why?

Beaten:

Animal Crossing: New Horizons - Okay so you technically can't beat it, but I got the "credits roll" from it and I paid off my house, so I'm assuming it's all unlocked and beaten in that sense.
Final Fantasy VII: Remake - Loved it. It's got its shortcomings as a game and I don't care. It was awesome and I can't wait for the next.
Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Yeah, finally got around to beating this. Great game. There's more to do and collect, especially with the DLC. I'll eventually get around to it.

Dropped:

Indivisible - Played it for a good 12 hours and couldn't do it anymore. I want to love this game, but the platforming is so bad. Specifically the controls. I feel like this game desperately needed some polish, because at its core it has a lot of good ideas going on, and the art design and characters are all pretty interesting (it was a Kickstarter title iirc, so this would explain it). The technical flaws make this almost unplayable with unresponsive controls that ask you to make complex and weird platforming jumps. The battle system was great, and took a heavy page from Valkyrie Profile in a good way. With the platforming problems to actually slog through this game, just yeah...no.

Currently playing: Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age. - This'll be the third time I've attempted to play this title. This is my longest run yet, clocking at 30 hours so far. I think the Zodiac Age improvements really, really help. It's an older game and it shows, but I want to see why this is a classic for some folks. The technical flaws are definitely there, but this is a remaster of a what, PS2 game? The story tho...lol.

Platinumed: Vice city
Finished: Sorcery, GTA3 (for the first time ever) Danganronpa 3, Medal of Honor Warfighter, Back in 1995, Kane and Lynch 2
Dropped: Quiet man. I am near the end, but I always die unfair ways. Not fun

I had to edit my post. I forget that I finished some games started earlier. It was a good month.

Doom e wasn't doing it for you?
I blame animal crossing. And honestly it was a bit too platformy imo.
Will come back to the game after i build a new PC,

Alyx was good but Super intense. Will come back after new PC.

i think the platform parts are definately less in the second half of the game, for what its worth

Beaten:
Persona 5 Royal (LOVED the fist fight with Maruki in the end, in fact the whole boss fight was so fun)

Tried to plat doom eternal but hate the mp; Plat'd re3, played thru ff7 and now on death stranding that I got in the sale....and I'm not hating it. Story is all over the place but it's nice to play to decompress after a long work day.

I dropped X-Com Chimera Squad for a bit near the end cause I started up Gears Tactics which I'm having more fun with. Maybe I'm just tired of all the layers of systems in X-Com, and this simpler approach just appeals to me more.

Only Hyrule Warriors
It was ok but I just played through the story and had enough. My enjoyment of these Warriors games depend a lot about how much I care about the characters, and as much as I like the Zelda games I've never been that much into the characters. In that sense I had a lot more fun with Pirate Warriors 3

Did you rike it?
I dropped some points in the 2020 backlog thread. Overall I liked it. I did play Twin Snakes 10 years ago though, so I remembered most of the story. I had forgotten a lot of the dialogue, though. Planning on playing the rest in the series through the PS3 collection soon. I see it lacks Portable Ops, though. Does that matter a lot storywise? Should I play Piece Walker before 4? I know to follow release order otherwise, though.

If you have a PSP and eager to play them all. Peace Walker came out after 4. It plays like 5 a bit.

My attention span was all over the place this month, so I only got the platinum for one game.
The Evil Within.

That was a platinum I've been putting off for years because I absolutely didn't want to play Akumu mode.

For good reason. It was brutal.

I've beaten FFVII Remake and Trials of Mana. I definitely want RE3 soon, but waiting for a price drop on that one.

Dropped:
Dragon Quest VIII. That Empyrea boss is outdated BS battle design and even grinding won't help.

About to beat:
Pokémon X, I'm at Victory Road. I'm pleasantly surprised by how challenging battles have become in the late game. I even got defeated in a sky battle.

About to start:

Shin Megami Tensei IV Apocalypse. My first not-Persona SMT game.

Will keep playing in May:
Persona 5 vanilla. Crazy good, but incredibly long. I don't see how it could've been shorter though.
God of War. Great game. I'd love to see more NPCs though.

I beat:

Gears of Wars Ultimate: one of the best remakes from one of the best games ever made.

Gears of Wars 3: Great ending for this awesome trilogy

Yakuza 4 Remaster: One of the best games ever made.

I beat and got the platinum trophy of :

Gun Crazy: good Gunstar Heroes clone from Ratalaika.

The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker : it was fun. Good "Sega CD" style of game.

I beat and got 1000g of:

Back in 1995: it is a good, crazy, fun Survival Horror game.

Dropped REmake. Door opening simulator.

Then I dropped Nier Automata. I was promised a good story but the fact is there is barely a story here at all. Nothing is explained in a meaningful manner. Started route B and it's almost the exact same as route A. Not wasting more of my time here. Maybe I'll be back at some point to get to route C.

Finally got around to finishing the co-op run my wife and I started months ago on Borderlands 3. We really struggled to get through the last half of the game due to the god awful writing.

May is looking like its gonna be mostly Snowrunner and Streets of Rage 4.

Beaten:

Final Fantasy 7 Remake (Twice!)
Journey
The Outer Worlds
South Park The Fractured But Whole
Assassin's Creed Origins

Dropped:

Persona 5 (Suffered severe burnout after 35 hours of pure grind)

Control (So boring and unenjoyable imo)

Infamous Second Son (bought it digitally to continue my save which was 41%, however my physical copy save didn't carry over so I dropped)

Nier Automata (burnout, still love it though)

Chrono Trigger
Final Fight 3
Sonic Blast Man 2
Actraiser

...i'm working on a snes top 100 feature 😁 lots of fun super famicom exclusives i had no idea even existed on my plate.
