Games you've dropped so far this year

Other than Zelda, which I finished, I havnt even started on any of the big games this year. I am playing through Persona 4 for the first time with no plans to quit though.

Zelda really wore me out on open worlds.

Currently occupied with Andromeda so i got a few games on hold.

So not officially dropped but I'm close to dropping torment tides of numenera and resident evil 7 if the next time I play those games it does not click with me

other games on hold from last year or earlier that I go back to from time to time but may eventually drop.

Tyranny
The White March
Witcher 3
Dark Souls 3
2nd play through of Inquisition for Trespasser DLC

Final Fantasy XV, I guess, although it's not this year. I was waiting for the patch to come out, plus a bunch of other games interrupted my playthrough and if I'm honest I don't really feel all that compelled to go back.

As for playing Breath of the Wild I've slowed to a trickle but I haven't given up entirely. And I probably won't touch anything else until I'm done Persona 5, which is everything I had hoped it would be - I intentionally platinumed Horizon beforehand as I knew I would have difficulty jumping back into that.

It's been a good year for games, I'm just holding off on buying some of them (Nier, Yakuza, etc) until later.

The only reason I am dropping things is because new awesome stuff keeps coming out.

Dropped Yakuza 0 for Zelda, Dropped Zelda for P5 and I even have a sealed copy of Nier: Automata.

At the very least I tried them all out and I like them all a good bit. Zelda is by far the best by a long shot though.

Nioh and FFXV. Nioh just got boring after a while due to lack of variety in pretty much all facets.

Final Fantasy XV is straight-up a bad game and no one will ever convince me otherwise. I got absolutely nothing out of the 10 hours I spent with it other than boredom and a newfound appreciation for Witcher 3's mediocre-but-competent combat. What an intensely unlikeable and boring game.

New Zelda on hold. After playing Nier Automata I don't wanna go back to it

Actually most of my zelda play came in the week it launched before Nier dropped. After that my attention was split and greatly favored Nier. I'm still enjoying zelda but not like I did the first few days or it. I started Horizon yesterday and I want to play Persona ... I could see myself dropping zelda.

ME:A is just not grabbing me at all. I usually drop games when a new shiny one comes out, and then just rotate between games.

I'm not rotating back to ME:A. BORING.

Woof, that's some excellent games you had to drop, OP. Maybe you're experiencing general gaming burnout? Let it lie for a month or two, and see if it persists. Mostly because of the rather diverse selection of games that burned you out.

I probably will. Not buying anything new until Crash anyway.

I guess Andromeda for the time being. Haven't played it in 2 weeks. I do want to get back to it but it definitely never grabbed me like the original trilogy did.

Oh yeah, and Battlefield 1. I played that for a week or so and my friends and I moved on so fast. Graphically it's very impressive, and the gunplay feels pretty good but otherwise I just got bored quick. I ended up going back to Overwatch.

Nier: Automata. This game did not need to be open world and it certainly didn't need the second playthrough where they just sprinkle tid bits of story that could have easily been in the first playthrough. It's especially bad since the character you play as has awful combat and his unique mechanic gets boring after about an hour. 2B and 9S aren't likable characters. 2B is pretty much brain dead. Even though 9S is annoying as hell at least he has a pulse.

Pretty much everything not called Destiny

Horizon ZD - stopped playing for one weekend, went back and was like 'nope' completely lost and didn't care to get back into it, one day I will.
Tales of Besaria - same as above, one weekend away from it and I couldn't get back into it. Though this is the one game I will definitely finish. Probably my favorite game on PS4 this gen not called Destiny.
Ghost Recon Wildlands - was playing with a friend, was enjoying it but then that destiny fever kicked in.
Battlefield - played for months but there is only so much you can do with ww1 weapons.
Overwatch - I only play for a day or two for the seasonal events. Nothing has topped Lucio Bowl yet.

I'm sure there are others.

Oh yeah I remember this weekend love affair. I'll go back to it in 9 months when all the patches are done.

Assassins Creed Unity, I thought I'd give one of the newer games a shot, but it just feels tedious...I'm tempted to play just the main missions, but I don't know if it's worth it. If I were to skip all the side-stuff how long would it take? Does it become more fun?
I only completed Sequence 02: Imprisoned

Currently playing through Battlefield 1 campaign and loving it, especially relevant given the 100yr anniversary of Vimy Ridge.

I dropped almost every game I got this year for Overwatch.

I just got Persona, hoping it finally breaks my OW addiction.

This is a common thread in Drakengard / Nier games. It's not going to click for everyone, but I find it to be pretty cool.

Persona 5 - fifteen hours in I've just had enough. Yeah they improved the dungeons but they're still boring turn based battles and I much prefered the characters, social links, story and world in P4G. Also think it would've been a better fit for a handheld system.

I'm picking up Persona 5 at the end of the month and this is my biggest worry. I love the Persona 4 crew and I'm hesitant if P5 will hold up.

Well from what I've read the 3rd playthrough is totally different. What they should have done is during #2 you do certain instances that are unique to that character instead of slogging through the barren open world doing the same missions again with some SLIGHT differences and a few new scenes.

Persona 5's characters are some of the most endearing this gen for me. I wouldnt worry about it.

The only things I've dropped so far this year have been DLC actually; the Ethan Must Die mode for RE7 and the free DLC for ICEY, cos they're both brutally bloody difficult.

Similar feeling here. Time is more limited for me to play games as much now (plus all the other damn releases this past couple months), and I don't understand why P5 is so long at 100+ hours =/
Never played a Persona game before obv

Zelda - Put maybe 20 hours into it and got my fill I guess. Also, the performance on Wii U is miserable.

Mass Effect - Literally didn't make it off of the first tutorial planet. I would rather just play Mass Effect 1 again.

I dropped Yakuza 0 for Nier(which I finished). I fully intend on finishing it, after Horizon Zero Dawn(currently playing) and possibly Persona 5(haven't bought yet).

I dropped Disc Jam during the advanced tutorial. There were 2 glowing boxes and it told me to send the disc through them without hitting a wall and I was just sitting there listening to a podcast and trying it over and over, and after like 100 throws I just turned the game off and haven't gone back.

Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

I got bored of staring at green circles depleting.

The Last Guardian was the first to get dropped. I wasn't in the mood to play it, but wanted to dive in before spoilers and hot takes. Enjoyed my time for a couple of sessions but never felt compelled to go back in.

Dropped Yakuza 0. 35 plus hours and loved it, but Hatsune Miku Future Tone took alot more of my time I ever thought it would, and I couldn't beat it before March 3rd.

Shantae: Half-Genie Hero: I usually like WayForward's games, but I really think it's a bad game. Nothing has any flow to it. Every enemy and obstacle stops you dead in your tracks. There's no momentum in the platforming and combat is not fun and happens way too often and for too for my taste. Why are these enemies multi-hit? Maybe I wanted a Nintendo or Capcom style platformer, but it feels like a poor-person's Wonder Boy. That soundtrack tho...

Nioh: Besides Demons' Souls, I've never played a Souls game while employed where someone else makes my schedule, so I totally understand how people don't like banging thier heads on bosses, etc. They're a stressful style of game, and I find it hard to enjoy whrn my time is limited.
I think playing the opening area for a 4th time took it's toll as well.

Zelda and Horizon.

Zelda's menu management was too constant and unsatisfying and Horizon was just too dull to play. Zelda has much more charm, while the generic open world in Horizon just bored me to disappointment.

I've been fairly let down in general this year. I've been disappointed in most of the "amazing" games.

  • Nier Automata- I liked the original Nier a lot more than I did the most recent one. Par for the course for platinum games for me--their wold and level design just kill their games for me.
  • Horizon: Zero Dawn- It looks amazing, but I found it an overall let down. Open world fatigue has been a real thing for me for a long time now.
  • Yakuza 0- I like a lot of its parts but I find this series plays like a trash fire.
  • Persona 5- I think this game is legit amazing. However, I need to come to terms with the fact that in and out of battle transitions in jrps really ruin them for me (yet I still continue to buy them).
  • Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands- It's a crazy good time with friends, but it's boring solo.
  • Momodora- It didn't click with me at first. I didn't like how small the range of your melee leaf weapon is for starters. I plan to actually go back to it though and give it real shot.

And yet here I sit enjoying the hell out of Mass Effect: Andromeda which is supposed to be really bad. I swear I don't mean to be a contrarian. Cosmic Star Heroine looks awesome too. Looking forward to that next week. I have yet to try Nioh and Resident Evil 7 too. Will eventually give Zelda a go when I pick up a Switch after Mario is out.

Mass effect: persona came out and I HATED the stupid way you move between planets. I heard it's fixed now so I'll return in a month or two.

For Honor: everything was guard break

Ocean horn: persona 5 came out

Finished: Nioh/Horizon

Nioh - Started it when it came out but didn't feel too impressed from what I played and then Horizon and DS3 The Ringed City dlc took over.

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth - I wanted to play this game for so long and finally picked it up at a great price. I didn't even get much further than the intro dungeon before I felt bored and uninterested in the gameplay, which is weird because I really enjoy a lot of turn-based jrpgs and digimon so I had just assumed it would be a great mix for me.

I'm picking up Persona 5 at the end of the month and this is my biggest worry. I love the Persona 4 crew and I'm hesitant if P5 will hold up.
I think Persona 5's cast is overall the best one. Like all the characters so far, and P3 and P4 both had characters I wasn't fond of.

Dropped Watch_Dogs 2 because it felt like every mission plays out the exact same way. I've dropped Mass Effect: Andromeda for the time being since they announced the patch. I'll probably get back to it after I finish Persona 5.

BotW got bored of wandering around aimlessly after I discovered 50% of the shrines and unlocked all the tower points on the map. It's a game where the inherent collect-a-thon nature and lack of structure can become a detriment when the collectibles become sparse, i.e. Shrines, or do not care for the repetitiveness in collectibles, i.e. Korok seeds and shrines (I've stopped bothering to enter shrines because I find them to be menial tasks and half the time I don't bother solving the rock puzzles or even lifting the rock to find koroks).

I went back last weekend after a week+ break and finished the last of the 4 dungeons and used a map to find more shrines, but I have had no desire to try to rush the castle or find the last 2 memories or go back to the world now. I'm about 45 hours in and have 85 shrines finished and 77 koroks seeds found. There's just nothing really to do now and the game doesn't set up scenarios that make me interested in continuing or finishing. The story missions are the worst offenders and I've found all the dungeons and bosses to be bad.

I dropped Gravity Rush 2, but I will finish it one day. Absolutely loved the first.

Other than that, I've finished every other game I've started (luckily)!

The Witness - Played a couple hours and it didn't grab me at all.

Witcher 3 - Put close to 15 hours into this. Saw the quality, but it just didn't click.

Lol the OP hates all of the best rated games!

I did not like Final Fantasy XV, and realized I do not like action RPG on Final Fantasy and also got rid of World of Final Fantasy. I am selling FF15 and Type 0 HD if anyone is interested.

FF15 - I hit what I call "the Witcher limit" on this one. Where I put in like 20 hours and then ask, "why am I playing this?" and never go back. May return someday.

Mass Effect Andromeda. It so bland and buggy - or at least was buggy. ME: 2 was one of my all-time favorites but this felt really bad. Utterly boring and soulless.

Infinite Warfare. Titanfall 2 really made this thing feel like a turd.

Battlefield One. Put in two days and never went back. Overpriced BF4 expansion.

Horizon Zero Dawn is a balancing act for me but I'm still going back once in awhile. There's so many similar aspects between this and Zelda BotW that after finishing that game, HZD felt really repetitive. I liked Zelda, but I didn't love it and the UBIsoft world towers and scavenging in too many games has me beat down on this formula.

I only dropped Nioh because Zelda came out and wanted to finish that first. Now I'm playing short games as a palate cleanser, but soon I'm jumping back into Nioh. I didn't expect it, but it's my favorite game this year so far. Only completed the first region though, so that could change.

Damn, I'm at 65 hours and have half the shrines you have lol. I still have not visited the entire western half of the map. Just got to Goron City.

Only Nioh. It's a good game but BotW is one of the greatest ever. I was probably halfway through and will get back to it at some point, but for now it just can't compete for my time.

Tales from the Borderlands - The game is just so boring. I've only finished episode 1, but I just cannot get into the world or the characters.
