Well yes, maybe surprised is the wrong word. I just don't understand why the hype is as big as it is from what I've seen of the game so far.
Lol, you need to look at it again. When all the jaded personalities at Giantbomb collectively go "this is awesome" you know it not just another frivolous hype.

What is so awesome about it?

The main character looks interesting design-wise, but so far seems edgy on one hand(in the story trailer) and annoying Lara-Craft Reboot-esque where she has to comment everything in the gameplay trailers.

The gameplay consisted of trapping big robots and then shooting glowing parts in slow-motion.

The little of the dialogue system I've seen looked like Fallout 4 (ie hasnt given me the impression yet that there will be actual choices / different answers with consequences / skill checks).

The end-of-former-civilization angle of ruins etc looks very cool, the rest of the map looks nice but nothing outstanding to me and this "hide in high grass"-mechanic they always show has been in Assassin's Creed games and Shadow of Mordor before.

And Guerilla Games so far has only done the Killzone games, where 2 and 3 were ok and had good gunplay, but imo otherwise weren't too inspired and KZ:Shadowfall was kind of a flop.

Like I see that it could be good, but it's definitely "wait and see for more details" whereas many other people seem to be extremely hyped and i don't really know why. It reminds me a bit of how everyone was extremely hyped about No Man's Sky despite we never actually saw anything of real substance and we know how that ended. Not that the studios can be compared in terms of size and experience.
