Gamespot - F-Zero (It got a good review!)

people have overlooked the fact that Zelda:TP is only 0.8 points better than this! :P

IMO F-Zero is the best racing game by far, and Wipeout is crap

Why not?

I assume Gamespot never reviewed this title before, and now that's available for the Wii it makes perfect sense to give their visitors their opinion. There's a lot of people out there that haven't played F-Zero before (or a Snes for that matter), so people looking forward to VC titles like this one might find this helpful.

It's easy to tell when people jumped ships. Only one seeing F-Zero behind the fence would think the SNES incarnation is the best. GC version is the best and more fleshed out. N64 get's the crown of multiplayer just because rthe random races. SNES only has the honour of starting the thing, what was fine enough.

Rollcage is better than all wipeouts and f-zeros combined!

Rollcage... Rollcage is awesome too. Really disorienting and far too easy to mess up in (cars spinning in circles and circles and going off cliffs spinning forwards and back and on the celing and side of the wall and floor... ack...), but awesome...

Perhaps, if it'd been a good review... but F-Zero is far, FAR better than an 8.0 game by any standards, today's included.

That's your opinion and you're welcome to it. But I stand by what I said, and that being that the SNES version was the best.

GX is a good game. AV did a great job with it and made a fast, furious, great looking and sounding 3D racer. But it doesn't 'feel' like FZero.

FZero to me is the controls. And GX doesn't handle anything like the first game. I love the 'pop accelerator' cornering method used in the SNES version. GX just feels too... Ordinary. Like the billion other futuristic racing games out there.

I hope AV does another version on the Wii. Hopefully they try and implement the unique FZero control method too.

I prefer the first GBA version, Maximum Velocity over the other mode-7 ones, but I'll download this version anyways. :]

Heh. I could never finish that. Playing it on the GBA and DS gave me hand cramps.

Not surprising considering FZero is one of the greatest games ever made and the series is one of the greatest in gaming history.

Please Nintendo, eventually update FZero and Super Mario Kart to allow online play in GP mode...it would be so awesome I might shed a tear of joy

oh man, you couldn't be more wrong. Obviously, GX won't handle like a 2D mode-7 racer...just like FZX didn't. But FZero GX is so far from an "ordinary" futuristic racer it is laughable to even compare it to them.

The techniques in GX are more complex and than in any other racing game. The necessity to accurately link different techniques together (all about timing and location on the course) makes it highly strategic at the "pro" level. The sense of speed is greater than any other racing game, the variety and precision of cornering techniques is also unrivaled in racing games. GX is more about the controls than any other game I've ever played.

I can only assume you never put the time into GX...perhaps you only ever played it one way: hold A, turn stick with shoulder button, boost. No wonder that would be boring.
