Gamespot serving up FUD-Pie, PS3 style

Is it just me or could they have just summed up half of those points by saying they want XBL for PS3. I mean not that's a bad thing, but just saying.

I stopped listening to the Hotspot a few months ago. 1up is levels above them when it comes to have an overall reasonable discussion. It's funny what they don't understand or get between each other on the Hotspot.

"Thank you for inviting me into your PlayStation Home. I find your collection of hilarious GIF files to be quite scintillating."

Jesus...

How about voicemail messaging so I don't need to reach for my USB keyboard every time I need to tell someone something?

Sounds like he didn't even watch the keynote, voice chat is included and it was demonstrated.

But PlayStation Home will certainly have its applications. I look forward to getting invited to the private spaces of other users so they can show me their vast collection of ripped DVD porn films and mind-blowing animated GIFs. I also look forward to going to the Sponsored By Big Summer Movie Area, where I can watch the trailer for Big Summer Movie and perhaps even acquire a T-shirt with the logo for Big Summer Movie right on it!

I agree with this paragraph whole-heartedly. And here I thought I was the only one who thought that Playstation Home missed the entire point of both miis and achievements.

Some of the points are valid and true (and need to be fixed). Sony does need to standardize online functionality (Home), improve development tools (EDGE), and some of the others.

A lot of the suggestions are kind of either A) already being experimented with or B) retarded. Sony is actually developing with content delivery...I'd argue Sony's PSN is the most advanced in terms of delivering large, full experiences on the store (or will be in the future). They do need to make accomplishments matter.

They don't need to "Show me the online play" as they imply with VF5. That's kind of a terrible point. They don't need to "release good news." The whole "change the way we play games" point is laughable. They should lower the price. Is there something wrong with Playstation 3 hardware to imply that Sony should have better hardware support?

That is a pretty shit article.

The best way Sony can improve the value of the PS3 is package in some basic fundamentals they FOR SOME REASON DON'T HAVE (headset), get Home up and running, and let the games start flowing.

I like how they compared the ps3 hardware problems to ps1 and ps2. I think its safe to say that hasn't been the case, generally speaking.

To be fair, some of their concerns are the same as mine, but overall the other issues they have are bizzare. It's just poorly written and very contradictory imo.

I have a feeling they will update the article 3 months from now like they did with Madden PS3.

I think you missed the entire point of Home

Sup, Tomato :)

I can't sleep. I read this thread moments before I prepared for bed but I've been awake ever since thinking about this issue.

Well, who really cares about what the article says? It has a SHOOP DA WOOP gif!!! Thank ****ing god that is banned on gaf.

hmm, I haven't read Gamespot's article, but I think this thread'll either get lock'd, or become THE place for peeps to articulate their home/LittleBigPlanet/general Sony distaste. :lol

That happens to at least three threads a day.

Is it sad that I've been browsing 1up.com more than Gamespot the last couple months?

It will happen, I'm sure. First few pages of people laughing at gamespot, towards the end people will come in and say that they agree 100% with it. Atleast thats how this thread played out in my mind. :x

It will likely remain open until the number of bannable comments reach critical mass. Then along comes Amirox with the banhammer and all is gone all is lost.

Yes for the sole reason that the 1up website is garbage. Love the podcasts and videos though!

The online fundamentals point in the article is right I think.

Will they release a similar article doggin on the 360 when VF5 is released without online play? Cuz y'know, that ball's totally in Sony and Microsoft's court

I haven't read the link, but I did read what you quoted and I am pretty sure he is not talking about voice chat, but rather the ability to leave people voice messages like you can on 360.

Their assessment is pretty much dead on accurate (especially Gerstmann's and Mueller's contributions) and that's going to really drive some people crazy here.

Tonight while playing Worms (a turn-based game) I was rapidly popping back and forth from my friends list, messaging and trading invites with friends who were playing a variety of online and offline titles. I can do this in a matter of seconds, and this functionality is available in every single title along with voice chat et al. At no point did I feel the need to dance or show off my blinged out crib. It's all fine and well that they want to add a social networking service to the online, but they need to nail the basics first and make them standard across all titles (TCR time, bitches). Non-gaming 'MySpace' sort of stuff needs to come second. Maybe they will nail it and nail it fast, but I'd have felt better if they would have acknowledged it and committed to it at GDC.

Well that wasn't even discussed in the keynote, yet he somehow seems to think that text messaging is the only option.

But that's just one of the points they make. It's a good point, too-- one I think all PS3 users will agree with.

Regarding the voicemail thing, has it been said that you can actually leave text messages at all or is he just assuming?

How about voicemail messaging so I don't need to reach for my USB keyboard every time I need to tell someone something?

I just figured that he's assuming you'll be able to leave text messages.

voice and videochat...

i also find it funny on how people assume porn and other stuff will be issues.

There are loads of really strange crap on the internet, that would make straight porn look like kids stuff, yet I manage to navigate and arrive here without looking at any of it.

people are simply making up issues...

They wrote what the majority of their reader want to read. It's just happen that the majority of their reader want to read about the PS3 doing bad.

FOX NEWS!!!!

The bottom line of it is this. Menus aren't really a bad or clunky gateway to your online gaming experience. They're not "exciting" (as the HOME preview puts it), but you can theoretically do the same things.

The truth is that gamers don't set up their Myspace pages as a shrine to games, and non-gamers don't imagine games as Myspace pages.

basics are just... basics... Home is built on XMB and everything that has interaction with other parts of the system is driven by OS and not Home...

Well ignoring the website complications and reviews, I think 1up.com has a quality of more community aspects than ign & gamespot. I tend to read the news articles (if not posted on gaf already) and blog posts most, not so much everything else. And yeah the podcasts and 1up show are great most of the time.

But with gamespot, I haven't felt really compelled to care for them. They haven't shown many exclusive news pieces or media content lately. Though 'On the Spot' is decent, but nothing compared to 1up show. Their website actually takes longer to load for me than ign. O_o

That article is long and I am watching Family Ties, but this is probably as good a place as any to air dirty laundry over Home.

Home looks nice. It looks very slick. It looks very thought out. It looks very flashy. I'm sure a whole lot of people will love it and make use of it, particularly those that have never fiddled with MMOs before. It's going to be a very popular and eye-catching thang, and I'm sure it will divert plenty of attention to the PS3's online services.

All that said, I don't really think it's for me, and several other gamers that I have spoken to feel the same way. We're fine with intuitive menu systems. I think about using a 3d metaphor for online life as a match-making and chat service is frankly not the most time-efficient way to set up an online experience.

I'm signing up for the beta, and I fully reserve the right to change my mind, but after reading the press and the faqs and the opinions, Home just sounds, well, over-developed.

really... yet you folks make such big deals of achivements... which is really funny.

Home is all about community though beyond your ordinary yellow pages stylished way. Anyways, it's not like PSN won't keep getting updated going forward, I mean, there's a huge update coming in less than two weeks.

God the discussion is starting again.

I think 1up has more interesting personalities than GS does, and it certainly helps that the 1up guys are here routinely conversing and talking with the community...as well as calling us retards and dropping subtle hints.

What do you mean by "you folks"?

Honestly I wouldn't be involved in this thread otherwise. I've already stated my thoughts on Home and they aren't worth repeating.

back to home topics yet again,oh boy home must really be so bad becuase people are talking about it people hating on it are mad becuase its a great idea its a option you dont have to use it if you dont want.

You are obviously not an Xbox Live user. It took one day from launch of the Vision camera before I had the pleasure of some dude broadcasting porn while I was playing Uno. Porn and Uno, what a perfect fit, right?

If you think HOME won't have some growing pains as people learn to exploit the system, you're being naive.

Agreed. At the end of the day I think thats what it is for me, personality and/or character. Which I feel Gamespot simply doesn't havee. Unless you count Gerstmann, who has the personality that reminds me of an annoying classmate I had back in high school. :/

The Cross Media Bar could also use an update. A media hub needs more than simple vertical scrolling to make it useful for listening to audio or viewing video clips. If we all had five songs to our name, the current system would work; but many of us have a lot more songs in the real world where 30GB MP3 players are the norm. You don't vertically scroll your way through 5,000 songs.

Well, hm... you can group them by artist, genre and album if I'm not mistaken...

IGN probably has the best game website layout, but also some of the worst editors :\ You get what you get with game media I suppose.
