Demi sent me a picture of his cat's butthole the day the Xbox camera came out.

That would qualify as social interaction and community I suppose.

Edited after putting on my grammar goggles.

IGN probably has the best game website layout, but also some of the worst editors :\ You get what you get with game media I suppose.

yeah, its usually really easy to find anything you need on IGN, but on IGN I only really care about videos of games.

i think the editors will eat their words as soon as soon as they see all the positive reaction Home has been getting all round.

I mean, all they've seen is from a keynote, they haven't even tried the service for themselves.

You are obviously not an Xbox Live user. It took one day from launch of the Vision camera before I had the pleasure of some dude broadcasting porn while I was playing Uno. Porn and Uno, what a perfect fit, right?

If you think HOME won't have some growing pains as people learn to exploit the system, you're being naive.
I think the difference is that in Home, theres not many ways to display those kind of things in the public place unless you curse on the mic in the public lobbies. And even then, in the Q&A there are noted moderators that will deal with people who abuse the shit like that. And in your private space, the people you deal with there will be more or less people you can trust (to a degree) since they will people you invite personally or on your friends list. Unless I'm mistaken, theres not a way to walk around with a penis on your avatar.

I think people are naive if they think every other person isn't going to run around screaming obscenities just to see their little character say it.

Well, shit. I'm not interested anymore.

It's all fine and well that they want to add a social networking service to the online, but they need to nail the basics first and make them standard across all titles (TCR time, bitches). Non-gaming 'MySpace' sort of stuff needs to come second. Maybe they will nail it and nail it fast, but I'd have felt better if they would have acknowledged it and committed to it at GDC.

I don't think it will be worse than in say Wow. It's all about building your character and so on.
Anyways, reading the FAQ, there are a lot of ways to go around this.

It's a lose-lose. They can't satisfy everyone. Let's be real. Home is a great idea. It came kinda out of left-field, even with the ancient rumor back in 2005, and with the Kotaku leak. But it's not gonna have everything for everyone, and that's the problem. What's the most important feature? On your checklist of things to add to the features list, which ones do you add first? Which ones get priority? Sony can't have everything in place from Day 1. It took MS years to get to this point, and they will continue building. It's a progressive thing.

In the end, Home isn't meant to be XBL. It's meant to be Home. It will have some of its own things. Will it have voicemail? Who really ****ing cares? Does Sony need to ape everything MS does AND create a uber interface on top of it? At some point it'll have to be ok to be different, b/c at no point with the two services ever have identikit features. One will always have something the other doesn't. Meh, whatever. PEACE.

Nobody is being naive, it will happen I'm sure. But those people will be dealt with. Check the Q&A.

i like home, it looks cool, and will no doubt bring a different experience to online gaming than the ones most of are used to, but i still want the things gerstmann and mueller mentioned.

not that i'm specifically saying that VF5/TK5DR need online play (even though that would be nice) but moreso that the online features of games (like voice chat) are standardized.

seriously, all i want is that while i'm playing a game, when i press the PS button, that virtual PSP pops up and allows me to view my friends list, msg and chat with them and be able to invite them to what i'm playing or join them in what they're playing.

this has nothing to do with home, but it has everything to do with them announcing home, but not covering the basics first.

You have to be on the persons friendslist to get invited to the apartment.

that wouldn't be super hard right? some news outlet will be reporting on kids getting invited to apartments by pervs because they accepted said perv to their friendlist. if XBL and myspace have taught me anything it's that people are dying to be my friend. anyway, HOME looks awesome and i'm sure there'll be a simplified way to do the basics without messing with your avatar a lot so i'm not worried. as long as they match XBL plus give us all the extra cool shit they're doing (for free no less!) then i'll be fine. i think that's what a lot of people here who are labled 'trolls' are saying. XBL is pretty good and Sony should concentrate on matching the competition then going balls out with their ambitious plans. regardless, between HOME and LBP Sony is looking swank.

Oh come on Bad Boy, Bungie and Blizzard ban people all day long. They come back for more stupidity every time. They will figure out how to exploit the system, and then the real game begins. It's a certainty of any online service.

really?

well, as long as people can still organize a multiplayer session in a game-specific home lobby and every game will have a game specific lobby it should be ok...

I don't see why this article is "FUD."

VF5 not having online is Sony's problem. Trophies a fad because you don't get t-shirts in the mail. Cut the price even if you're already loosing a ton. No sorting in music folder? (It's there) Change the way we play games? Experiment with content delivery (aren't Sony at the very top when it comes to this?). Provide solid hardware... The PS3 seems like one of the most solid consoles around.

There is a lot of FUD.

Tobor, nobody said those people who abuse it won't come back or there won't be more of them. But I think there is a difference between abusing it and having to be reported to be dealt with, than rather being abusive in front of the people who will deal with you.

It's like someone here being stupid and abusing rights on gaf right in front of the open. Sure it happens all the time, but it's dealt with and controlled for the most part (and quickly might I add). Unlike some other forums we do not speak of...

I don't think it's FUD so much as it is Gamespot writing an article designed around a premise of "How can we fit shoop da woop into one of our editorials?"

By DEFINITION, FUD has to come from a competitor...so this isn't FUD.

i liked this one:
Unfortunately, for every Resistance there are games like Tekken and Virtua Fighter 5, which have no online play whatsoever.

When VF5 comes to Xbox360, it will not have online play. It may have online features, but it will not have an online versus mode.

And when this happens, it won't be a fault of Xbox360.

But obviously, its just another example of Sony f'king up.

Gamespot simply look at what everyone else is saying and say the opposite, they have been doing it for years.

attention seeking at its worst.

Not saying the gamespot article is one (Haven't read it).

Just a subtle but important correction... In reality, FUD is less effective if it comes directly from a competitor.

No wonder they gave Motorstorm a 7.9 [/sarcasm]

But in all seriousness... Gamespot seems to have been a lot harder on the PS3 than any other current gen systems -- whether it is games or the hardware itself. Then again, they did give Zelda: TP (Wii) a 8.8, then Zelda: TP (GC) a 8.9 and said that the Wii version was "better." Go figure.

Then you can just mute them. Problem solved. big deal.

My point was simply that the system will have growing pains, without a doubt. It will be interesting to see how Sony handles it. If the odd penis or cat butthole is the worst thing that happens, then HOME will be fine.

Some decent points are being made here, especially about how Sony needs to master the basics first, but I can't help the feeling that Gerstmann is the rebellious teen of the Gamespot staff sometimes.

Assclowns go on the ignore list and then after a while they will wonder why they can never find a game.
That simple.

Sony can do whatever the hell they want. If HOME is started before 720p Blu-ray watching is there then so be it. If HOME is started before voice-chat in all games is in there then so be it.

And multi-tasking will be in the PS3 by time HOME offically launches anyway, allowing you access to the XMB.

lol I'm not disagreeing with you, as I've said twice on that matter already. I'm sure it will have it's issues by people who abuse it. What I'm saying is that based off what we know, it seems like a much more thought out environment to deal with those problems. And yes it will be interesting to see how those thought out plans are handled in the final product. So I'm not disagreeing with you bro, it's just that I don't seeing it being as bad as say..."balls shown in a random uno game". :)

Right, I'm just saying that maybe he should hold the nay-saying until he has actually spent some time with it. And as for mastering the basics, Sony could very well do fine. We just have to wait and see. The point of the post was that Gerstmann seems to jump on the negativity bandwagon relatively quickly.

I personally didn't know Tekken on the PSN lacked one.

You know there should be an achievement for seeing someones balls in Uno. If I have to look at balls, I should at least get 50 point for it.

The biggest problem I have with that article is that they make absurd assumptions. It's like they already are 100% certain that PSHome will have none of those features they want when it launches.

But the biggest gripe I have is "start releasing good news." Sony is in control of the media right now? Sony revealed Home, yet it was Gamespot who decided to bash it. Who's releasing the bad news now?

And as someone else said... I can just browse the internet perfectly fine and visit all the sites I want to, use Myspace all I want without having porn interjections between each site.

To criticize the PS3 for some things and not do likewise for the other consoles -- primarly Wii's online strategy and X360s failure rates -- is what makes this FUD.

First, the company should ensure that hardware failures cause its users a minimum of inconvenience. There needs to be a fast, reliable way to get any hardware issue resolved (whether that be through mail-order, service centers, or both) along with a retroactive lifetime guarantee on every unit sold.

What failure rates?! Also, are they still talking about Sony here?

Unlike the original PS2, which was arguably a Trojan Horse for the DVD format back in 2000 and sold extremely well as the first DVD player for many households, the PS3 hasn't been anywhere near as successful with the Blu-ray format.

Not to make this a HD-DVD vs Blu-Ray discussion, but to primarly prove that Gamespot has no idea what they are talking about: Blu-Ray is already outselling HD-DVD in both SOFTWARE and HARDWARE. FACT. This info is provided by Nelson Media Scan.

I'm not sure if I would want that in my achievements list. :lol
