Gamestop announces strategic partnership with Microsoft

literal scum, MS should have let them die, but maybe this is better, MS is going to bleed them dry for probably a year and then let them die....yeah, that is better

I'm not a fan of these childish comments as GameStop shutting down impacts employees through redundances and local economies.

Not a good look.

So Microsoft is losing money with GamePass. And will now lose money with GameStop. Interesting. I wonder what their long-term strategies are.
Microsoft is giving Gamestop monetary support in exchange for them to pay Microsoft $billions to use Azure, Dynamics, Teams and Office 365 for the next 10 years.
Microsoft will make bank on this unless Gamestop goes bankrupt.

It's a bet that Gamestop will survive.
And Microsoft got rid of it's retail space. Now they have that with this partnership again.
Preferential retail space Gamestop has to pay for.

Microsoft is winning here. Gamestop gets a lifeline.
Win - Win for both companies.

It won't. And no it does not give employees room for that. This is GameStop just signing a huge contract to use MS Dynamics and their other 365 services. Many businesses use Dynamics. This is not something special.

What about the last sentence? Pretty sure if it benefits Gamestop selling Xbox over NIntendo and PLaystation....There gonna favour one over the other no?

  • Following decades as an essential provider of the Microsoft Xbox gaming platform and services, GameStop has expanded its Xbox family of product offerings to include Xbox All Access, which provides an Xbox console and 24 months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate to players with no upfront cost. GameStop and Microsoft will both benefit from the customer acquisition and lifetime revenue value of each gamer brought into the Xbox ecosystem.

I talked about this in previous replies. It is nothing new with Gametop offering Xbox All Access, that was already announced. They just wanted more bullet points on their press release. BestBuy, Target, and Walmart are also offering Xbox All Access sign ups, and that bolded line would apply to them as well.

Gamestop looks out of it in the post-disk world, they've had to many chances (Game crazy, Family Video all closing etc.) they're getting rocked by Walmart, Amazon and Steam.

The all access thing is not new, and has been available from Gamestop since XSX pre-orders went live. And Gamestop also participated in last years All Access deal MS did.

They also sell Playstation payment plans through 3rd party services...

MS is selling Gamestop software, probably giving them a really good deal, hence the word "strategic". Why? Because MS actually wants Gamestop to not die.. so they might be giving them a better deal than they are other companies. MS benefits from Gamestop being able to sell more software... so does Sony, there is zero chance Gamestop would take some sort of deal that discouraged them from selling the dominate market leader's products.

These are both publicly traded companies.. Gamestop can't make some secret shady deal to do more business with MS than Sony without it being known, and the entire concept is ludicrous at face value.

Next thing you know Microsoft bought out GameStop and turns it into their own Microsoft store or some type of Xbox store.

A public company does not have to disclose all deals to their shareholders.

Almost all “deals” are done between companies where one isnt a market leader as they are usually to develop stronger market penetration.

The whole point of the deal for MS is to have gamestop actively promote its products more.

Wow. They even turned the Microsoft Retail Stores into a service.

I don't see the long term of this being great for anyone but clearly they see something I don't.
Don't get what is hard to understand about this. No different than getting a Best Buy card approval and getting 24 months no interest.
