Gamestop gave me the wrong game...

So GAF, last week I picked up a Wii U, and have been going through a sizable backlog of Wii games I missed. Some of the games included the resident evil ports that made it onto the Wii. I didn't own a GameCube, so I missed out. I was more interested in playing REmake than Zero, but in my local Gamestop I could only find Zero. I bought it anyway, because I'd still been looking forward to playing it. Today I finally got a chance to play the game. Resident Evil Zero was not in the box. It was REmake. I'm pretty fucking hyped, and happy I didn't place an order for it on amazon last Wednesday.

So GAF, this ever happen to you? As in getting the wrong game in the box, and maybe coming out on top because of it? This isn't the first time this gamestop has given me the wrong game, but last time it was Lost Planet 2 instead of Left 4 Dead 2.

On a side note, can REmake run in widescreen mode on the Wii U? The system menu is in widescreen, but every game I've played has been 4:3. Just wondering.

TL;DR: Gamestop was retarded, gave me a better game than the one I payed for.

It's never happened to me. Good for you if you came out ahead I guess. I might notify them though, if it were me in that situation. Usually when I order a game, I order it because I want to play it.

I got the Metroid Prime Hunters demo cart instead of the real game, but I only saw after it was too late to return it.

Especially with used games, this happens all the time. Sometimes you get the regular edition instead of the Game of the Year edition, sometimes you get the wrong year (ie, Madden 08 instead of 09), and especially if it's a franchise without numbers (The Layton games, for example), you can get the wrong one. It's an honest mistake most of the time, and if you bring back the receipt in a reasonable time, they should fix it for you.

Coincidentally, I spent the extra $12 for the Colonies Edition of Lost Planet: EC. Got the regular version, returned it and never looked back lol

Saw that Fire Emblem GBA (FE7) was available at my local Gamestop and went to go pick it up. As I left and opened up the case it turned out to be Fire Emblem Sacred Stones.

I was not happy.

doesn't gamestop sell brand new games as opened products that they have to go to the back of the store to find the discs to match up with their cases?

I ordered FF VII: Crisis Core through Amazon from a smaller retailer for a nice price. I was pretty excited as I just bought my PSP and wanted to check out some of the exclusives. When I opened the box, the Final Fantasy I UMD was staring at me.

I was pretty disappointed. Luckily the customer service was top-notch. I got my money back and I didn't have to return the game. I enjoyed FFI, but haven't checked out Crisis Core yet as a result.

I was at a game, dvd, and bong resale store in Colorado Springs while on vacation a month ago, and they happened to have Metroid Prime with a bonus disc! I was excited to buy it, until they opened the case and I saw that the bonus disc was Viewtiful Joe (which I already own) and not the actual bonus disc. They then said whoever sold it to them must have scammed them, which was kind of off putting to me, because you would think they would check this shit before buying it from someone. I did purchase P.N.03 from them and later found out the manual was the manual to a different game, too.

They usually keep them in drawers behind the counter in my experience, but yeah. If someone wants a game from them that's never been opened, the best bet is to pre-order.

On topic, I bought Suikoden III from them and they forgot to even put a disc in the case. This was resolved when I brought it back, though.

No, but even if that did happen to me I would drive back to GS and get it sorted out. Having the wrong game in the wrong box would drive me crazy.

It's happened. They will exchange it if you have the receipt. I got Call of Juarez 1 instead of Bound in Blood one time. Took it back and was like "wtf?" They even laughed and gave me the right copy.

I bought Eternal Darkness and Gamestop ended up giving me the PAL version (and I live in the US).

I was... less than thrilled after spending so much time trying to find that game.

One time I bought Timesplitters 2 from Gamestop, got home and put the disc in and realized it was the Timesplitters 1 disc in 2's case....

I was able to return it with no issues but super lame

Pretty sure my mum bought me Rayman M yeeeeeears ago one Christmas and when we opened the box it was Rayman 3 inside.

Poster above me reminded me of this one time when I was younger I was at McDonalds for my friends birthday. I ordered a plain burger and made sure to stress I wanted absolutely nothing else but the bun and the burger.

They gave me a Big Mac.

Yea never buy used from them, unless you want some morons mitts all over your disc scuffing it up putting it in those envelopes.

Nope. When you purchase it, simply ask for a sealed copy. They always have plenty in stock. Bust their balls if you have to. I'm not paying $60 unless I can take the celophane off myself.

For every game they put on the shelf, they create one "display version", which is sliced open with the case on the shelves and the disc in storage. I guess they supposedly sell that one last.

One time I preordered a game and it ended up being the only one they got in stock, and when I came in to get it the store manager had already chopped it open and covered it with stickers. This was the last straw for me and I don't shop at Gamestop anymore.

This happened to my friend once. He was buying Yu-Gi-Oh! Spirit Caller for the DS and ended up getting World Championship 2007 instead.

I ordered a big Mac once, got filet o' fish instead.

Have been addicted to it ever since. Thanks Mcdonald's! :D
Filet o' Fish is so damn underrated.

I once bought a copy of the original PSO for Dreamcast and was given a copy of PSO V2 in the box instead, considering I only paid about ÂŁ5 for it and V2 was selling for waaaaaay more at the time it was certainly a welcome surprise.

Happend to me twice once with blockbuster and once with Amazon. My blockbuster where having a sale on pre-owned games and I wanted to pickup need for speed underground, lady in the counter gave me underground 2. Made my day as I thought I got it for steal :). With Amazon it was with Tony Hawk project 8 instead they sent me proving ground, again got it for a steal price.

Hope another mistake like this happens in the future.

On a side note, can REmake run in widescreen mode on the Wii U? The system menu is in widescreen, but every game I've played has been 4:3. Just wondering.

The game uses pre-rendered backgrounds that were made for 4:3 televisions so there's no way for the game to run in widescreen without stretching the image.

I usually never buy games sold as used unless they're difficult to find new for a reasonable price. With that one, I only bothered since there was a buy two, get one free sale going.

I've read former employees on GAF claim that some GameStops reapply the shrinkwrap and sell them as new.

One time I wanted to purchase Endless Ocean 2 used from Gamestop on a whim for Wii. I got the game, and on my way out decided to check it real quick. It was a good idea, because in the case was Endless Ocean 1, and the fucking disc was cracked no less.

I don't think so. It would be nice if they updated this. Right now the wiiU only runs in its native form instead of using the output from the composite cables on the wii.

It's not exactly the same, but when I bought Borderlands 2, they gave me a Darksiders 2 receipt instead and I payed 10€ less

Protip: When you buy used games from ANYWHERE(thrift store, half price books, etc), check the case before you leave.

On that note, yeah, back in the day I bought Zone of Enders 1, and part 2 was in the case.

wat

how does this even happen.

Im surprised people dont check their food at the drive through. Always gotta make sure personally.

When i got my PS2, i also bought a used copy of normal MGS2; when i opened the box at home, the disc actually was MGS2 Substance. I also once payed $10 less for a new copy than for a used one of The Orange Box for PS3.

Yep, happened to me when I tried to buy a used copy of Advance Wars. The label on the cartridge was torn off, and turns out it was a completely different game, though I forget which. I freaked out because I was worried I wouldn't be able to return the game. What if they didn't believe me? I could be totally lying about getting the wrong cart! Thankfully there was no problem returning it. But it freaked me out enough that I always test opened games as soon as I get home now.

Last year, I bought Project Gotham Racing 2 from a local Play N Trade, but they gave me the first game instead...which I already had. I bought it along with a bunch of other games, so I didn't realize it until well after I had left. So, I went back later, and they switched it.

That's it, though.

I guess the closest thing besides that was getting the Greatest Hits version of Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3 from a local GameStop a few months ago, when the case was just for the original version. I lucked out, since the Greatest Hits version has more content. Hehe.

Whenever you leave Gamestop or a fast food joint, you should look into your bag to see you got what you ordered.

Only time Gamestop messed up and I didn't catch it was when I bought some 99 cent DS game (wiffle ball?) and instead got Spectrobes. It was for a kid so it was probably for the best.

Purchased Skate 2 a couple of weeks ago, in order to get my last trophy before the plat. When I got home I opened the box and Skate 3 was in there. Was pretty mad. That was the worst day in my life.

I ALWAYS check the disk before I leave the store. Never had an issue at Gamestop but I've had it happen at a local mom and pop store. My son bought Spiderman 2 for PSP and ended up with the actual movie UMD instead of the game.

When I was about five my dad took me to a Hollywood Video to rent a game. I saw a Winnie the Pooh game on N64 and chose it. We go up to the counter, dad pays, they hand over the case. In my excitement, I run up to my older sister and happily tell her, "Look at this new game!" With a puzzled look on her face she asks, "Don't you already own this game?" Of course not! This was a Winnie the Pooh game, I never have had one of th- then she continues, "I just saw Pokemon Snap in the game box when I was cleaning." I ask her to give the game back and, lo and behold, they managed to put Pokemon Snap into the Winnie the Pooh case.

My dad went back to the store and within fifteen minutes returned with the correct game, but it was still confusing to my child mind that a store could mix things up.

A little background first, Strider 2 for PS1 also included the original Strider on its own disc. Except the disc art was reversed during manufacturing, so the disc that says "Strider 2" is actually Strider 1 etc.

I found a disc only listing for "Strider 1" last year for dirt cheap, so I actually got Strider 2. Very happy about that!
