GameTrailers Hit with Layoffs?

Yeah, he is really good I've always liked Geoff, he's like the john cena of journalist the face of gaming news. really sucks for everyone else though i really like GT
Calling Geoff the John Cena of gaming news is an insult to Keighley.
He's the Ryan Seacrest of gaming news.

Damn thats tough..

Bosman said at the end of his last show that he'd been filming a new Final Bosman today to be uploaded Saturday. Not sure if the news came out before filming if it's going ahead as normal, but the tone will be interesting. From his impressions on some hands on shows and Let's All Go To The Trailers, he was hyped by a lot at the show, but he strikes me as the type to take this news hard even if he's kept on. Hopefully it's the same lovable show.

If all the GT peeps leave and form their own site, I'd pay $50 a year for it. Gladly, even.
I was just thinking how much I love the GT guys and this news hits. This sucks. I hope most people land on their feet or keep their jobs.

I'd love to do that arrangement if worse comes to worse.

Urgh this fucking sucks, GT was my go to site for videos and I loved their new podcasts and features, mainly because I enjoyed everyone there, which is very rare for me, most sites have 1 or 2 people I enjoy hearing from and can't stand the rest (IGN, Kotaku). :(

A lot of the tweets are cryptic, as if some people are being laid off outright, and others are being asked to move/take a pay cut.

not that cryptic really, some are being laid off some given opportunity to stay (guess renew contracts). So some asked to stay are pondering if they wanna continue with ghosts in the office.

This reminds me of the death of 1UP. GT never quite got as good as them, but they were getting damned close. It seems whenever a gaming site starts getting really quality, someone comes in buys them, and screws everything up. Still amazed that Giant Bomb made it through the CBS buy unscathed. Wonder if that had anything to do with them actually pulling in money via subs.

Still its a shame to see so many people go. GT was probably producing the best gaming content the industry has seen in years.

Not only that, but I'm wondering if they're going to merge the gaming sites they've acquired like Escapist into one outlet, which would probably mean a lot less say in content direction than what they have now. I assume that's the line of questioning they'll be asking internally, even if their packages stay the same.

I still think GT will be fine after all of this. A lot of good people are still there. This isn't the first time that big personalities have left the site either (Marcus, Shane), and things have been just fine. It will be different, and we'll all miss guys like Ryan and DK, but GT will live on.... at least I hope so

I guess I just find it strange that someone of Jone's stature (in the company), doesn't exactly know what they want with him. I guess that makes sense, he's been told they want him to stay. But he doesn't exactly know WHAT their new vision is (and how he fits into it with regards to content).

So the tweet itself isn't strange. But it only further highlights the fact that, even if some of these great people stay, the shift in how they are used might be drastic (in a bad way). It's just hard to put your head around it, because of who Jones is to the site. You know?

I feel like that's understating what's happening, this is the biggest change to hit the site since they first partnered with Viacom, and even then the changes were gradual, this is a major shift in how GT is going to fundamentally operate and function in terms of what they produce

"A lot..." you say... you are mistaken... The correct phrase is NOT a lot...

I think what makes this especially upsetting, other than the fact that I've been following Gametrailers content since 2007 (and vividly remember GTTV's first episode being about fucking Tiberium which never came out) is that I tuned into their pre-E3 liveshow on Twitch, and that it was so "Fuck yeah video games" and everyone seemed to have a good time, and now some of those people won't be able to do that with each other anymore, or hopefully at least for now.

Wonder if Pachter knew this was going to go down and leaked it on twitter to give the employee's time to start looking for other work? Good on him if that was the case.

Can't lie this is making me pretty sad, I've loved gametrailers for awhile now but only in the last few years did I realize that they had a whole staff. In the last year they really hit their stride, more personality and a ton of original content.
Ryan Stevens was seriously one of my favorite dudes, I loved when he took over IW.
I loved his work on unfinished swan.
I'll keep watching as long as the site doesn't take a massive down turn.
Justin Speer gone, man he was pretty good with being even handed.
amanda re-assigned :(
Jon Finger, Rohan, Hoffman.... man it's a blood letting!

Really sucks this is happening to GT, but if so many are being fired then could they just not all get together and start there own site free from the shackles they had in place before?

Woh, this sucks balls!

Right after E3, it's not like Hoffmann was the freaking guy that mostly made the E3 coverage happen.
Ryan also was huge on bringing coverage for GT, damn, will miss him so much.
Also liked Speer a lot, Manuel was neat and Rohan did a lot behind the camera.

Really f'ed up.

Edit: Wow, Kayser too?! Wth, he was one of the faces representing GT live on television. And Slusser as well, damn.

That's not how a professional such as Pachter operates. He knew the sale was happening, as did many other people, companies, and corporations, but he did not "leak" it intentionally. GT employees were informed of the sale in a company meeting and it had nothing to do with Pachter's tweet.

I can't believe this. GT has been my favorite site for this past year after losing my attention before, and now they're kicking everybody out. Fucking hell.

Ryan, Rohan, Justin, Rob, Daniel, fucking hell.

:(

More corporate bullshit wrecking the industry sigh. Gametrailers has really been picking it up lately with some great personalities. Best of luck to those who lost their jobs. This sucks as much as the whole 1up situation.

Would be cool if these guys could come together and pull a Giant Bomb type site I'd be down for that and even willing to subscribe.

These past 6-8 months GT has really been something special. I wonder how this will affect the site now. It's been better than it's ever been.

I only visited GameTrailers to watch The Final Bosman, but from reading this thread, it seems like they developed a lot of great personalities and shows over the past year or two. I wish I had been paying more attention!

Hopefully everyone is able to find work doing something they love.
