Gametrailers: Most Anticipated Games of 2009

3 ps3 games and no 360? MS needs to stop hiding shit.

They absolutely need to stop with this. I've seen more of what's coming out on PS3, PC, and Wii, along with some handhelds. They need to pull out some major surprises at this point of the game, otherwise it's starting to look like it's hitting the end cycle like the original Xbox did. The question is are they hiding stuff, or don't they have anything to show? Especially considering how paltry their first party stables are. Hopefully next gen they'll learn to buy up more exclusives/dev houses rather than throwing money at exclusive 30 day launch windows and exclusive DLC.

Pretty decent listing. Kinda surprised inFamous didn't make it on that list somewhere. Very odd exclusions though, with KZ2 not being on there since they apparently played it too much, Halo 3 ODST not on there since they didn't see anything really, yet they didn't have any game time with GoW3 and Uncharted 2 and they made the list.

Speaking of GoW3, they never came out and said how long they've been working on the game have they? I'm kinda shocked it would hit this year, but perhaps they were working on it for far longer than people think?

Are people really that excited for another Call of Duty or Killzone game? They might very well be good games, but let's not fool ourselves - we know what to expect by from these games by now.

I dunno dude. MS isn't exactly hurting for sales right now and the division is well into the black. If they can carry the momentum of 08 into 09 and then only increase with an impressive E3, why wouldn't they?

AMAZING gun pr0n, assplosions everywhere, blood, insane lighting and eyecandy, crazy sound quality...yup, I know exacly what I'm expecting from KZ2.

You know that Killzone 2 is only the 3rd in the series, and the first console release since the original in 2004... right?

They're showing GoW3 to the press in February... maybe it's farther along than we think.
I believe this as well, and I still think it'll hit fall. I remember Naughty Dog was in the same situation for Uncharted 1. They showed it around the same time and released by fall. Getting this game in the hands of the "gaming press" is actually a good thing cause ND took a lot of those comments to heart and improved their final product.

MS did the exact same thing last year in regards to its lineup, and people made these same comments on GAF, yet 2008 turned out fine for MS, so I'm not too worried about 2009. And I don't see the logic in buying up dev houses when they're just finally starting to turn a profit in the gaming division.

More J-Rzez rhetoric even in light of Greenberg saying just last week or so they absolutely have not revealed there 09 line up yet. Kind of like 08 just as he spells it out and that worked out perfectly fine for them it would seem. Starting to look like the end of the original Xbox days, pure comedy gold. Of course just like last year. Old hat is getting old.

Let him spell out for you;

G4: As far as games, the two big exclusives that we know about for 2009, are both Halo related. We get Halo Wars early and then we got Halo 3: ODST later. What are some of the other big exclusives weÂ’re looking at for 2009?

Greenberg: We think the Grand Theft Auto 4 downloadable content will be huge for us in the Spring. We've also got Xbox Live Primetime which is something that we’re really excited to launch and that’s going to be a really big. It’s an entirely new category of gaming. Yes, it's a big year for Halo fans starting with Halo Wars and then Halo 3: ODST, but if you look back at January 2008 when we started the year you'll see that as a company, our philosophy is that we try to under promise and over deliver. We tend to save things until they’re much closer to being ready to be brought to market, and I think that that is a little different than traditionally how this industry has worked. Not just Sony, but how 3rd-party publishers work, how this industry historically has worked. People tend to like to talk about games for years. I mean we’ve been waiting for games you know for four, five, or six years to come to market. Take the NXE for example. We showed it at E3 and a few months later we launched. We announced a lot of games at E3 that came at holiday – Lips, You're in the Movies, Scene It. We have a lot planned for 2009, but we absolutely have not shared what our lineup looks like.

And Cycle;

G4: Speaking of adding value to a console over time, the average life of a console is about 5 years. WeÂ’re hitting year 4 for the Xbox 360. Do you think the 360 will outlast that 5 year average or are we going to see the next console soon?

Greenberg: I think we absolutely have a very long life ahead of us. I think what we’re seeing this generation is that we have a console that is no longer limited by hardware. We’re delivering Hi-Definition experiences. We have storage. We have high-speed connectivity. So you know we’re not limited by the hardware at all. We see a very, very long future ahead of us as we think about the platform and we’re not even thinking about the next generation at this point. I think that what we did with the New Xbox Experience, and many people said that it was essentially like launching a new console and we did that through the power of software. When we designed the Xbox 360 the strategy was, “What if we could make a console that we could continuously update over time?" Last generation we couldn’t do that because we only had 10 percent of our owners connected to Live. But now the majority of people that own a console are connected. We’ve got 17 million people connected. We can always add new features and new functionality and so we’ll continue to do that without requiring them to buy new hardware.

Or what? What's going to happen if they keep their surprises?

TO ALL THOSE WHO SAY GOW3 ISN"T COMING THIS YEAR

it is, they are showing it off to the press next month. Its a lot further along then you think. Also the reason why KZ is not on their most anticipated list is because they have and most likely beat it already. And they most likely played a ton of SF4 so thats why its not as high. But over all I do agree with the list

No KZ2 at #1 makes the list a joke, and where is inFamous? WTF was that lame ass black and white game I never heard of? Who makes these lists?

I hate shitting on other peoples lists, but I'm waaay more hyped for Riddick, Dark Void, and Bionic Commando than most of the games on that list.

And if they include Bioshock 2, they might as well include Alan Wake.

Believe!

Anticipated as what most gamers are looking forward to in 2009?

More gamers are looking forward to Madworld than Starcraft II?

Uncharted 2 than SF4?

I say more people are anticipating the next Madden than God of War 3, if it makes it out this year...

MS don't listen to this man. I love NOT having to hear the fanboys over hype a game for months and months and months only to be disappointed because it didn't meet the excessive fan expectations, I'd rather be surprised. Good job MS, keep it up it's gotten you this far.

I think GOW III is possible for holiday 09 (depending on the previews that come out after this next showing), and they could stack up the holiday quarter with more than a few good exclusives, which really is probably not a bad idea for them at this point. GOW III, Uncharted 2, Ratchet, maybe Heavy Rain. Throw in some FF XIII for Japan and it could be a nice holiday quarter not to mention the possibility of GT5 hitting. They would be blowing there load for sure, but they need a very good holiday this year.

lol, yes, let's list a franchise that has a new version come out every single year.

And stop bitching about the omission of KZ2. It didn't qualify for thier list since they already have full review copies in their offices.

There's full review copies out for SF4 as well. At least one list put it on there at all though. :lol

Call of Duty being on there surprised me. Isn't there some Call of Duty fatigue yet? Three straight years of Call of Duty soon to be four. That shit needs a break.

It's being hyped because it's like the only seemingly semi-decent game coming out for the wii.

Platinum Games.

Well, aside from the usual "internet opinions" and "lists suck" opinions, I'd like to know why Sin & Punishment 2 wasn't anywhere on that list.

Uh...good art design, looks like a good Wii game, Platinum Games (former Clover)...etc.

Too niche.

Ever play Viewtiful Joe? ever play God Hand? ever play Okami?

this is the next game from the developer that brought you those stellar games

What, no Conduit??

That's one of the most anticipated Wii titles I could have sworn....

If MadWorld, THE biggest 'core' game on the Wii in 2009, is at 8, then The Conduit wouldn't even be in the top 20.

maybe this video was made before they got their review copies for SF4?

Cool.

Well at least the studio has a good reputation. Before I knew about Platinum, I was expecting Mad World to be the next No More Heroes.

No More Heroes sucked.

Yet SF4 makes the list?

Huh?

If they want to apply the "rules" evenly, to all titles, in the same way, great. No problem with that. They didn't though. Their explanation is not an explanation at all. It's nonsense. The Halo titles got burned by the same nonsense. It ain't just KZ2.

Still, lots of good games to look forward to.

Where's Infamous? Sucker Punch getting no love? Bad call, GT.

Yes, I think we were all pleasantly surprised and thankful for You're in the Movies and Lips.

All of the best stuff from MS's 2008 lineup we knew about at least a year in advance or were already expecting; Ninja Gaiden, Gears 2, Fable 2, etc.

Except for my complete lack of interest in RE5--I think the list pretty much represents my interests in '09. (Downloadable titles excluded) I'm a bit spent on COD titles though--unless they do a big change up I'll just play it for the single player.

Wait and see on Infamous
Sadly no Diablo 3 in '09
GOW3 '09 Believe.

I don't understand this logic.
I mean, starcraft2 is well to me it is a cop-out answer. I don't believe it, it's not believable, and it's too easy. most anticipated? really? sounds more like the most obvious. they put that in there just to say mwah WE HAVE PC COVERED, let's move on to going through all these long lists of releases we have typed out for these other platforms and find the list of our list the real list. I don't believe for a second they are aware of the insane amounts of awesome pc games coming for pc this year. also, they're idiots and I want to kill them. seriously, I want to stab them in the throat with a kitchenknife.
