GameTrailers Top 10 Worst Final Fantasy Games

I get that they had to come up with some extra FFs for a Top 10 List(Why is there even a top 10 worst video in the first place?) but some games do not deserve to be there. FFMQ was a great RPG in its own right, ignoring the FF name. May have been fairly simple and the battles a bit tedious, but to this day it still has one of the coolest soundtracks.

Can't take this list seriously without FF6 and FF Tactics on it

You're trying way too hard.

7 out of 10 came from Square Enix huh.

So what are the good Final Fantasy games left from the Square Enix era (X-2 doesn't count coz it still came out during Squaresoft era).

Calling All the Bravest a "game" is stretching it pretty far. I mean, it technically is, but the only purpose of it is to see how much money you're willing to give Square in exchange for random [!!!] decade-old character sprites. Honestly thought this was a parody of free-to-play games when I first played it.

I wouldn't have it on the list so much as giving it a lifetime (dis)honorable mention. Sort of like what Yahtzee did with Ride to Hell.

God dang it, I still haven't played a single Final Fantasy game and have no clue where to start
or even if to start
. Every single game in the series that someone calls trash another person hails as the greatest one yet.

I guess if I'm ever gonna start I'll just start with XIII, as I'm not into traditional JRPGS much and most of the previous game's gameplay seem similar to traditional JRPGS. I'm more interested in story than anything considering how long the games supposedly are.

Honestly with everything you just said I would actually avoid FFXIII.

From how you describe yourself you sound like you would enjoy FFXIV although I have no idea if you want to play an MMO. I've never liked MMO's and I really enjoyed myself in FFXIV. If you're not into MMO's then I would honestly advise you to hold out until FFXV as it has an action based combat system and the story is shaping up to be one of the best.

If you can't hold out though nothing can honestly stop you. All I ask is that if you don't end up not liking XIII (like so many of my other friends who I tried to get into FF) don't harbor it against the series. The series is full of wonderful games.

Now I do recommend that after playing another FF to try FFXIII just see if you like it because we are all different in that way. But as a first FF, if you need a HD single player FF, just wait for FFXV.

Edit: I can't believe I forgot but FFX|X-2 HD is coming out in a few months and honestly that is a fantastic FF and JRPG to start off with. It has a great story with a really cool battle system. If your curious give FFX a whirl.

You should try Final Fantasy Tactics, it's a SRPG. And FFXII, which is a hybrid of turn-based and action combat, and it's quite good.

If you prefer action ones, you could give Crisis Core a shot. You may still give XIII an attempt, since I think it's really cheap now, but its story is rubbish. Battle design is a hit or miss, and it's extremely linear.

I've never known a game series to have such huge differences in opinion.

I only played from VII to XIII-2 minus XII and the online games, but my 3 favourite are;

VII, X, XIII

Least favourite;

VIII, X-2, XIII-2

This,

tumblr_m8aviy0XdC1qcadi4.gif

Probably my favorite game ever.

They should have lumped the XIII trilogy together, what a wreck. 15 is the last chance for SE to break their poor console streak.

FFVIII should be there. I agree with whoever said XIII was better. XIII's battle system was fun throughout. FFVIII is amazing on the first disc then goes to utter shit with each extra disc.

After years should be the second. Good god was that game bad. As in unbeliavable bad.

I urge you guys to purchase the IV Complete collection (4 redrawn is just as great as the original but way prettier and in the Vita it's even more beautiful so it's worth it) and try After years. Just try it. It's one of the worst gaming experiences I have had in my life. It has absolutely no redeeming qualitites, every single aspect of the game is flawed.

Words can't express how bad this is. Just try it.

PS: And no, the plot is no bad fanfiction. It's stupid, nonsensical, retarded, childish and moronic S-E writing. At its best.

I'll go ahead and say that Mystic Quest deserves to be on the list because not only is it a very basic RPG, it is literally insulting. This game got made because Squaresoft thought we could not handle the alleged all crushing difficulty of JRPG of the time and decided that this threadbare and dumb-downed patronization in silicon form is what we needed to be appreciative and buy more RPGS.

10. Final Fantasy XIII
9. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Echoes of Time
8. Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest
7. Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo's Dungeon
6. Final Fantasy: Legend (SaGa)
5. Final Fantasy II
4. Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII
3. Final Fantasy IV: The After Years
2. Final Fantasy XIV 1.0
1. Final Fantasy: All The Bravest

I'm pleasantly surprised for VIII not being on that list.

Didn't watch a GT video in a long time but it's really noticeable how much their writing took a hit.

That video feels like it was written by an angry teen.

I love how they put XIII on there and then throw their reviewer under the bus.
"Oh it got a great review from us, but uh, you know like, there are no defenders on the current staff. So yeah fuck that guy."

Fuck you, Game Trailers. You stuck your name on the review, you posted it, don't backpedal now. The only way you would have had the balls to low-score a huge game like that would have been if eeeeeverybody did it, and judging by FFXIII's 83 Metascore, they weren't. It looks like your balls only sprung out after you realized the popular opinion on that game.

When you review a game, stick by your comments and your marks.
If you change your mind and decide you no longer feel a certain way about a game, then revise or delete write some kind of follow-up, but don't just try to wash your hands and be like "Eh heh heh heh...juuuust kidding about that whole, liking that game thing, eh heh heh heh...what was THAT guy smoking am I right?"

I don't care that the game is on the list, but don't be that guy who acts like he hated the unpopular thing all along.

A nonsensical list made by a website way past its prime. Hurray...

This line is sufficient material to assess the competence of the current staff in terms of game design and dismiss any hope for pleasant surprises. If there is indeed no one among the staff to defend FFXIII from being labeled a bad game, there is no use to listen to these people talk about games at all. I don't expect random forum users to back up their opinion with a solid game dev background, but I do expect some expertise from a site like GT.

Oh thats some great over the top butt hurt right there. They put it at 10 not at 1.

Here, I helped your post out -

FFXIII, A nonsensical game made by a developer way past its prime. Hurray...

yeah, it really should, that game was horrible. Sorry Squall-faithful but VIII really should have been on this list as well.

Final Fantasy VIII's only problem is its story/characters. If you are a fan of open ended/customizable battle systems and character progression, then there is a lot to like a FF8.

FF13 had a decent battle system as well, but it will forever be ruined by the fact that S-E forces you to play through what is basically a 20 hour tutorial.

Agree with everything you said, the "open-endedness" is just not what I look for in a FF game. There are plenty of games that do that very well, I come to FF games because the story and characters are unique and usually entertaining (sometimes "good" may be a bit strong) which is why I think VIII stands out in a bad way since it was sandwiched between a very good game (VII) and a fantastic one (IX)

Point taken.

If we were judging the main titles by character/story, I'd place FF8 in the bottom two of the post NES games, fighting it out with FF13.

Ahhh, poor Firion, he gets so much shit. I played FFII last year and really enjoyed the hell out of it. I'm starting to think it's actually the most underrated game in the series.

I wouldn't put ff2 on the list. It was different but not bad. For mainline ff games I'd put ff3 (DS) on their before 2. As I was playing these games for the first time a year ago i found 3 pretty dull. Nothing too bad just kind of there.

100% agree May.

that "saga" game rebranded final fantasy is one of my worst purchase in rpg ever and i have a pretty diverse rpg experience with games like time and eternity ( that was enjoyable despite the numrous flaws ).

But that game ? utterpile of garbage.
Final fantasy legends is not only disapointing , it's worse than anything you can imagine , even knowing it was on gameboy.

For me it's the worse possible , even turd like echo of time , while broken at a gameplay , even ff14 1.0 while empty , you had like the impression that a game was behind it ... The after years , despite the weird plot was still a rpg at his core .

But final fantasy legends has NONE of that ... The game punishes you from the start , you're in the first cave , the fist dongeon and it's already confusing at hell , the exploration is broken , the map is broken , the story is nonsense and confusing , the pacing is innexistant ...
I have NOT enough words to describe how bad it is ... it's is worse than you can imagine. Maybe , just maybe you could get around with a faq or something ..but i have NEVER seen such a confusing rpg in my entire life.

I got it used for cheap and i still got defilled and wanted a refund ... Horrible game , mind destructive experience.. i wasted battery energy on my gameboy for this , NEVER AGAIN.

That GT top list reminded me on how awefull that game was, for that shame of you gametrailers ! nobody should be allowed to experience this horror game .

All the Bravest deserved to be #1, easily. Might as well send SE money in an envelope instead of buying it.

Glad the After Years is on that list. It's a terrible unbalanced game with ridiculous assets recycling. You go in the cave between Kaipon and Damcyan like 3-4 times through the whole game. It tried to mimic the SMT moon phases thing but made it worse. You actually can get black magic power halved on a phase while the game gives you only black mages and white mages for the chapter. So you have to waste tents at a save point until it cycles.

Most of the boss battles are irritating unless you have someone that can cast slow (most of the time you won't) or you stashed spider silk.

Most of the characters they give are simply awful stats and skills wise compared to the FFIV casts so in the end you simply choose them for the last chapter. And the plot is beyond awful, it's simply a rehash of FFIV.

Horribad list

XIII isn't high enough, VIII is missing, chocobo dungeon shouldn't be on there, only the original crystal chronicles should be on there not its sequels, legends shouldn't be therr either, and XIV 1.0 should have been number 1 for being an unplayable mess over atb which is still functional and mindlessly fun

A simple question for the FF XIII defense force in this thread..

did it ever come to your mind that 8.6 is pretty bad for Final Fantasy standards and that's why this game is on this list?

I don't really care about the list. In fact I kind of hate that this is what websites have to do to get traffic(and boy does it work), I'm just stating that I enjoyed FFXIII. I usually try to support games I enjoyed that tend to get a plethora of hate.

Well, they'd certainly have gotten less traffic if it hadn't been posted here.
