Garbage is making a new album. Anyone else excited?

Not open for further replies.
I'm a huge Garbage fan, but I'm not yet excited. I adore their first three albums + most of the b-sides, but Bleed Like Me is a giant piece of shit with the exception of a couple tracks. Despite 3 amazing albums, BLM's utter shittitude has me a bit worried about this new one.

Another new update:

To Clarify a point......
by Garbage on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at 10:22am

okay
so
just because y'all can get a little confused
ORwe can be really confusing
here is the story so far

this will be the last time we will explain this
so heads up
pay attention
you little freaks and geeks and darklings and dears

You WILL hear a brand new track from us
in October this year.
It WILL be a cover version.

HOWEVER
This track has nothing to do with our new record
and WILL NOT be included in our new record

It is NOT a single

It is NOT a first single.

It is NOT going to BE our first single.

It is simply a song
that happens to be a cover version
that you will hear in a matter of weeks
if you care to

Meanwhile
We continue to work on 24 songs.
12 of which will be mixed and mastered by October 17th.
Those 12 songs will consitute the new LP.

Meanwhile
the other 12 songs will also be mixed and mastered by the end of the year
and will be released as B-sides, extra tracks and maybe one might even come your way simply as a christmas present from garbage as a thankyou to you all for sticking around. WHo knows? But sooner or later you are going to hear them.

AND finally................
Talks are already underway with regards to a full Garbage Tour.
Our first in 7 years.

So stay tuned.
Ears perky now.

New Garbage interview:

In the Studio: Garbage Talk 'Hungriness' of 2012 LP

Now that Garbage's long-awaited fifth album — the band's first since 2005's Bleed Like Me — is nearly done, Shirley Manson and Co. are ready to open up about what caused the delay in the first place, starting with plain ol' politics.

"We'd gotten sold from label to label and ended up on a label that didn't give a shit about us, really," Manson tells SPIN. "It just stripped us of all our joy, and as a result, we turned on each other a bit. It got to the point where I was like, 'Fuck this. This isn't fun. Let's take a break.' And everybody was like, 'Yeah.' "

"I thought it would be like two years, and it ended being five years!" says drummer Butch Vig, acknowledging the whole band was fried. "Time ticked by really fast," Manson adds. "We looked back at what was going on in the music scene, and nobody had really taken our seat, much to our surprise! What the fuck? How come?"

Feeling needed, Garbage got their groove back pretty quickly. Their as-yet-untitled new disc, due early next year, is only weeks from completion. "We have seven songs mixed and maybe five to go," says drummer Butch Vig. "Hopefully the record's gonna drop in late March or early April."

Sessions started earlier this year, when the band got together in a tiny space in Los Angeles under very casual circumstances. "We went into the studio with no expectations other than drink a lot of wine and fuck around a lot," says Vig. "Shirley and I live in L.A., Steve [Marker, guitar and keys] lives in Colorado, and Duke [Erikson, bass and guitar] lives in Madison, Wisconsin. So we would get together for a week and then take a week off."

"It felt like I was coming home to my family in a way," says Manson. "It also felt fun. We're so familiar with one another, we can be ourselves and not give a shit about anything. It felt good."

Both Vig and Manson say the new songs have the same identifiable Garbage sound that fans remember, but updated for 2011. "We love old-school rock and punk and trashy sounds, but we love technology too," says Vig.

"People we've played it for says it sounds like the first record, and I'm thinking to myself, 'It doesn't sound anything like the first record,' " says Manson, referring to 1995's Garbage. "But there's an energy there that is, I think, reminiscent of the first record; a sort of hungriness is there."

For her part, Manson is revisiting familiar territory. "The overriding themes are pretty much about being a misfit, a geek, a nerd, a forgotten-about, in a way," she says — topics Lady Gaga has made the bedrock of her relationship with her Little Monsters. "It is really ironic because when the band [initially] started taking off, I thought, 'Wow, I'm no longer a geek! I'm cool! I'm hip! I'm popular!' " she laughs. "And of course, the feelings [of being an outsider] never went away."

Manson has also been grappling with the death of her mother, which weighs heavily in her new lyrics. "Mortality is definitely [another theme]," she says. "We're not young bucks coming out with our first record by any stretch of the imagination. The minute you pass a certain mark, mortality starts to wear on you more and more."

As such, the band is understandably overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from their loyal following. "We opened our Facebook page a couple months ago, and all of a sudden there are 300,000 fans on there," says Vig. "I hope they're excited to go on the next ride with us, wherever the hell we go."

LOS ANGELES, CA – JANUARY 23, 2012 - Today we announced the launch of our record label , STUNVOLUME. We will self-release our upcoming studio album later this spring. We have had our fill of greedy corporate interest. We don't like how they do business. This time we are going to do it our way.

STUNVOLUME will be distributed by Fontana in the United States. Around the world, we will release our album on STUNVOLUME via licensing deals with Cooperative Music in Asia, Europe and Latin America, Liberator Music/The Mushroom Group in Australia and New Zealand, Sony in Japan and Universal Canada in Canada.
Our aim is to put out music that is pure of heart.

We have been in the studio putting the finishing touches on our fifth studio album, our first in seven years. The new album is being recorded at Red Razor Sounds in the Atwater Village area of Los Angeles, CA. This is the first of our records to be recorded outside of Madison, WI. The album is being produced by Garbage, engineered by Billy Bush, and mixed by Butch Vig and Billy Bush.

Our intention is to make a great record that we have written, recorded and produced as a band.
We intend to tell the truth.
We are one.
Even though it's hard.

Garbage is Shirley Manson (vocals), Steve Marker (guitars, keyboards), Duke Erikson (guitars, keyboards) and Butch Vig (drums, loops).

I loooooooved Garbage back when I was kid. Especially the first album. I had it on cassette (yup, old school), and would listen to it all the time. I like Version 2.0, too, but the more accessible, pop-ier sound got old fast.

I tried to like Beautiful Garbage, but eventually gave up on it. Same with Bleed Like Me.

So, I'm not feeling too optimistic about a fifth album, but I'll give it a try.

They practically the only band I'm following in Facebook now, they're pushing new info on a steady basis too. Can't wait for the album!

Listened to Garbage a lot as a kid since my mom liked them. Later in life, I must've listened to Garbage 2.0 a good 20 or so times. And yes, I know the Gran Turismo song as well. I'll give this a listen for sure.

New tour dates announced:

See Garbage Live in London, UK — Wednesday, May 9 at 8:00pm at Troxy.
See Garbage Live in Paris, France — Wednesday, May 16 at 8:00pm at Théâtre Olympia.

NOT YOUR KIND OF PEOPLE TO BE RELEASED ON BAND’S OWN LABEL ON MAY 15, 2012

“Working with Garbage again was very instinctual,” said Duke Erikson. “Like getting on a bicycle…with three other people.” He adds “We haven’t felt this good about a Garbage record since the last one!”

Garbage - Shirley Manson (vocals), Steve Marker (guitars, keyboards), Duke Erikson (guitars, keyboards) and Butch Vig (drums, loops) - will hit the road this spring in support of the album by performing several headlining shows as well as various festivals throughout Europe and the U.S. with more dates to be confirmed.
“Thinking about going back on the road is both thrilling and terrifying in equal measure,” said Shirley Manson. “………but we’ve always enjoyed a little pain mixed in with our pleasure.”

Extremely Meh for me.... The 1st 5 seconds or so sound good, but the vocals and the chorus music and just everything was like meh...

I like it. Anyone here going to see Garbage on tour?

I'm planning to see them at the very least at House of Blues in AC and Webster Hall in NYC. I had briefly considered flying to Dallas for that radio festival, but figured I'd wait for something closer to me (I'm in New Jersey).

I'm not too crazy about the song after first listen, but I'm sure it'll grow on me. Garbage is my all-time favorite band. I'm 26, and they've been my favorite since I was 13. For fully half of my life, their music has influenced me, and I will buy any music they release and see them as many times as possible on tour.

I'm really excited for this album. Pre-ordered both versions on Amazon!

I like it. Anyone here going to see Garbage on tour?

I don't know. I want to see them live again since I'm afraid this will be the last time they tour, but if the album sucks, I know I won't enjoy the show. At this point, they have so many songs that they will play a bunch of songs off the new album and then just the singles from previous albums, which sucks. I hated BLM, but I saw them during that tour and I ended up so disappointed that I left before the show was over. In any case, they just announced some shows on the east coast, which go on sale in just a few days. Guess I'll have to buy tickets just incase the album doesn't blow.

Also, I didn't post a link to it before, but the full song was leaked. You can probably find it on youtube or with google, if you wish.

The snippet didn't really do much for me, although I did think the main guitar riff sounded pretty sweet. I have to say, after hearing the whole track now - I'm *really* excited to hear the rest of the album. The song itself has just enough crunch and distortion to it to really make it work. Shirley's vocals are also just such a welcome return. I'll agree the chorus is meh, but its just so nice to hear her voice again. Love the little change up at the end of the track too. Really really good stuff.

Hell, this just makes the wait for the album proper harder knowing that it actually has a shot at being pretty good.

(Also, wtf at no Chicago tour dates?!)

Don't like it, and already had low expectations.

Sounds dated and generic, and hate the way Shirley delivers the start. Garbage fell so far from the first 2 albums, which I still listen to. I guess it was just one of those right time, right people, right sound moments.

They could never recapture it.

Edit: Thinking about it, what's missing is passion. That's why her vocals bug me so much on this, and what they steadily lost as time went on. Garbage in the beginning had a LOT of passion about them.

We missed out on tickets here in Austin..they're playing a fairly small venue that has room for 1200 standing only. My girlfriend was devastated..we looked on Stubhub the evening they went on sale and ~225 tickets were listed. Disgusting.

I bought us tickets to see them in Houston the night before but am pretty meh on a 3.5 hour drive. :(

The UK single Battle In Me is a LOT better:

Much more like old Garbage.

Thanks, Ill have to give it a listen.
