No, I'm pretty sure you only get one Offering, and that's from that samurai dude in the ancient castle. You can get Economizers from Brachiosaurs, though... Reduces all spell costs to 1 MP.
And isamu might be remembering double attacks because Economizers were so often used with Gem Boxes, which let you cast two spells in a row.

WINNAR!!! :D

I just learned for the first time that FFIV GBA = FFIV Hardtype + an added 50 level dungeon + a music player + a bestiary. I might have to get this game after all...

Edit: holy shit, they've improved the graphics and the sound of the game. looks like I'm definitely getting this.

Noooooo!! My FFVI knowledge is getting rusty! You're right :) And I spent so much time in that stupid dinosaur forest too, I decked out my entire party in Imp gear to fight there. :lol :lol

If by "the hardcore FF set" you mean "the people who actually liked it when the games were at least hard enough that you couldn't just close your eyes and tap Circle every time a battle came up," then yes. And FFV had that going for it as well. Really, I think the SNES FFs were the best at striking a balance between not requiring insane amounts of power-leveling and not being mind-numbingly easy.

I mean, I'm playing through a fan translation of FFVI again right now, and after not having played it since (I think) beating FFVIII, FFIX twice, and the Dawn of Souls version of FFI, it's like a culture shock that my characters are actually capable of dying if the enemy really focuses its strongest attacks on them. And yeah, I know it gets easier once you can turn everyone into healers, but the early game reminds me more of Dragon Warrior than FFVII and up, and that's a good thing.

You can die in Final Fantasy VI? It is one of the easiest RPGs I have ever played. I can't see the game being hard unless you limit yourself some how.

I think that's exaggerating a little though I do agree VI wasn't that hard - but compared to VII (which is a total cakewalk to the point that it was pathetic) it is. I thought IX was on par with VI as far as challenge goes.

50-floor bonus dungeon? As long as it's more like the SO2 Cave of Trials (trumped-up difficulty and superb treasures) and less like the Dawn of Souls dungeons (boring enemies and a high encounter rate), I'm intrigued.

I'm not saying it's possible to lose the entire party, but at least one character in a battle.
...Unless they turned up the difficulty for the patch I'm playing right now, which I guess is possible since they did a lot of other crazy stuff like giving characters more FF-style abilities, e.g. Shadow always being able to equip two swords or Edgar always being able to use Jump.
Argh, now I have to go dig up my SNES and see if things like Brawlers and Ipoohs really took off half of your HP with their attacks or if that's just the patch.

Again, though, it may just be because it's been so long since I've played FFVI and so long that I've gotten used to the post-SNES FFs that I've been trained out of ever selecting the "Item" command in a battle. And obviously not using items isn't the best idea during, say,
Sabin's scenario or the mini-war in Narshe
.

5 and 6 were announced shortly after 4 was. IIRC it was said that they were going to be slightly changed like 4 is going to be, while 3 is more of a full-blown remake.

I imagine that FF4-6 will all feature a sound test, bestiary, tweaked music and graphics, and a bit of extra content either sprinkled throughout or saved for the end of the game. They won't be the comprehensive remakes that 1&2 were for the GBA, but they won't be relatively straight ports of the SNES or PSOne games either. Not that I really needed another reason to buy them again outside of their newly granted natures as portable RPGs.

I know I should be ashamed, but I've been replaying FFII (SNES) and....I'm getting my butt kicked:( I just defeated that dwarf guy (getting through that was a pain in the arse) and now I'm heading my way up to save Rosa, however just about everyone I meet kicks my butt.

My levels for my characters are:

Cecil: 17.
Tellah 23.
Cid: 21
Yang: 19.

Of course, it would sure help if I knew what all the spells did:/

My thinking exactly. I havent had the patience for a console RPG in years, but played the hell out of the Dawn of Souls cart for some reason. These remakes I am looking forward too greatly, just because I can get my old skool FF on anywhere.

And as others have mentioned, FF VI was not terribly hard. It was difficult, more so than VII, but VI was the first FF where you could overpower your guys to the point where it was almost impossible to die. IV on the other hand....

Fear the evil mask...

Same here. For example, Lunar DS is a game I wouldn't in my right mind touch on a console, but when you've got 2.5 hours to kill each day just in the commute to/from work, there are worse things to do on the subway than grind levels and gold while grooving to the iPod! (Like read my school books or gaze avidly at all of the NY psychos surrounding me!) ;p

I also recently got back into FF1&2, though the last 2 bosses of the 3rd bonus dungeon are bothing rocking me up and down their turf. :/

Guys. No one has asked this yet....

Do you speculate that we will be able to save anywhere in IV, V, VI the way we could in the I&II remakes?

"Bookmark" style saving at the VERY least. Though, I suspect, it'll be an unlimited save anywhere function, and the "save spots" are just going to be "tent spots" from now on.

This is kinda sad: Square reannouncing their remakes. What happened to 7 - 9?

For PS2? Canned due to failure of TSW.

That said, I think 7 - 9 will come to DS or PSP sometime in the next few years.

Forget that! I was promised Final Fantasy VI in 3D on Ultra 64 :(

i think what you're talking about is that tech demo. they wanted to show what the next-gen FF would look like but FF7 was so early in development (or they just wanted to keep things confidential) so they used FF6 characters.

though i think its kind of weird because the graphics on it looked too good for the N64.

FFIV was nowhere near as good as a I remembered it when I went back and played it. It was actually a little dissappointing because it was shorter and easier than my memory was telling me.

Check the bolded parts.

Can't wait to see the new FMV cutscenes. Should make replaying FFIV again a bit more interesting.
Wait... what? It's going to have added cutscenes?

On some Japanese disc I have, it is clearly stated that the demo is running on SGI Onyx machines and not Nintendo 64 hardware.

You could argue that the N64 is kind of like a shitty mini-Onyx though.

As I had always heard it, select third parties were given/loaned SGI machines to play around with as "early indicators" of the non-finalized N64 hardware.

I played through Easytype last week, and it was still a blast..sux 4 u!

Fun 10 hrs.

Was that Japanese disc you have the bonus 4th disc from FF7 International? Cause I know that is on it.

Totally disagree. Last time I played it was when Chronicles came out (2001?) and I was so into it I collected every goddamn item in the game.

I don't know, I'm not heavily into RPGs, and FF is one of the few RPG series that I'm interested in, so to me the gameplay is still pretty enthralling; I only put myself through it once a year or so.

Not exactly sure if it has been posted around here yet but we got Final Fantasy IV Advance Boxart and it looks like the final deal.

Every item? Even Adamant Armor and Glass Helms and stuff (never got either)?
Yes! And I even got the item that you have to find the pink blob on the moon to get.

So deep is my love for FFIV. I'll gladly take the "fanboy" slings and arrows for that game.

Not really sux 4 me cause I knew my head was filled with nostalgia and that brought me back to reality. =P

How can you disagree with a personal opininon where I don't even go into detail about what I don't like about the game? The only thing you could disagree with is on the fact that I think it's short and easy which is what the game is. =P

So why are you bitching? You didn't spend 83 hours to go through it!
Try Easytype; the last place is all weirded out and gives me game overs.

It's not nostalgia when I play the game frequently. :)

You said exactly why. But even if you didn't, I would retain my super-elite ability to disagree, because I am a NINJA.

Sometimes I wonder whether the "my first RPG" status of FF7 could ever be applied to FF4.

Not really since FF1 took so long to get translated to english for the NES, FF2 for SNES was right aorund the corner. So it's a good assumption that many of those who got FF2 for SNES also got FF1 for the NES before it.
