Gears of War 3 Review thread.

Man, I haven't switched on the xbox in a long while....I may have to pick this up. I certainly played the hell out of the 1st two, that's for sure.

Any big spoilers?
Not really. Some campaign footage that might already be familiar and one or two minor cutscenes. Put it this way, I know nothing story wise now that I didn't before the review. There's a fair bit of Versus, Horde and Beast footage too.

9/10 from Edge
And we're done here, fantastic score from the publication that really matters.

Thanks. Doesn't sound like a GT video review. Normally they spoil some pretty big parts.

I don't trust reviews at all really, but when you see so many high scores, you have to think this game will be the dog's fucking bollocks.

I can't wait.

This is what all games could get if given the appropriate amount of time for tweaking, polish and bug testing. I'm glad Epic was granted an extra ~5 months to work on it.

If Edge is a 9, the game is good.
They're one of few outlets who use the scale correctly, I agree, but sometimes they don't sync with my opinion.

But, generally, if a game is reviewing this good then yeah, you can trust the scores. Even if most sites use the 7-10 scale.

IGN review says the campaign will take anywhere from 15 to 20 hours. That can't be accurate, can it?

I doubt it. I believe one GAFer who got his hands on the game the other day finished it within a day or two, though I don't think he said how many hours he put in.

15-20 is a stretch, but Joystiq also mentioned it's their longest campaign to date so maybe 10-12 versus the standard 6-8?

IGN

"Gears feels like i've been there and done that, so let's give it a 9"

When MW3 comes out

"THIS GAME HAS NEW RED DOT SIGHTS! A PERFECT 10!"

IGN has never given a Call of Duty game a 10. Highest ever was MW2 at 9.5.

Gamespot and Egde scores am impressed. Really cannot wait. All this talk about the GT review looking so good kinda want to watch. Big spoilers?

Gamespot's video review is 10 mins long and is practically all positives. I don't think they said a single bad thing about the game. Their highlight of the game is the campaign.

Nice scores. I hope they aren't just inflated like the previous two were though.

Uh..

Are you saying gears 1 and 2 weren't good?

Gears 2 had its MP problems but come on... They had amazing campaigns

I would never trust a review that predicts how well the mp will be received.

Well, we know Gears 3 actually works, thanks to the beta.

I expect the severs to shit the bed for the first few days. Epic says they're prepared....they're not. P2P was fine for me in the beta. I ain't worried.

I'm ready to tear this game eight new assholes. It's almost time to unleash the beast once more. The beta was just a warm-up. I want to make people trade this game in (sorry Epic) after they're done playing with me and my boys.

I posted this in the other thread, but I figure it's more appropriate in here:

Pretty great quote from the OXM review:

"The evidence is indisputable: Gears of War 3 is the ultimate realization of the Xbox 360 console, much in the same way Halo 2 was for the original Xbox. It maximizes the hardware's horsepower; boasts a fully featured, seamless online experience that serves up both competitive and cooperative gameplay; and it's enduringly replayable online or off. Quite simply, Gears of War 3 leaves no stone unturned - it's everything a triple-A blockbuster should be."

- 10

If Gears 3 has the same impact as Halo 2 did for multiplayer... man that would be epic.

Kydd BlaZe and I were talking about that yesterday. From what I've seen and what I know, Epic went all out with this. They put their heart and soul into this game. They listened to the fans and did everything possible to deliver a top notch product.

Only 5 more days til we all go home. Gears 2 will be a distant memory. I'm starting to think that Gears 3 will be the best MP experience I will ever have. I really hope it is. The beta sure made me think that way.

It's been a long road for us Gears fans. We're almost at the end.
