I'm afraid a big part of that generalization was created by ex-GAF members a few years ago.
The same who locked OP's thread on another forum while needing a gaming section to even justify their forum's existence.
Virtually no one in real life know shit about the equation "gamer" = alt-right. It's a meme from a very specific fringe of gamers, or ex-gamers, or gamers who pretend to be ex-gamers to gain points (which by the way, is a game-related expression, LOL).
For the general public, a "gamer" is the same nerdy loser that it was in the days of the 16-bit consoles.
It's a stupid generalization, anyway. If your mom or your wife plays games on her smartphone, she's a gamer, even if she'll never see herself as one.
