I guess that was my fault. Everyone said I was making it lag out. I think I will just stick to the AI for a while, maybe when the next expansion pack comes out I will try and jump in fresh again.

Dude we should team up on a 2v2. I suck ass too and I won't bitch when we get our ass handed to us in the first two minutes of a match . :lol

I wouldn't mind teaming up with you two and helping both of you past the newbie phase. Bump the CoH thread if you do. Or better yet, set a time.

Way to give a shout out to coleco shawn, that was the first console I played. We had the pad that had all the big numbers on it like you mentioned, and another one was a grip style one that had like 4 triggers on it and the numbers. The damn thing was huge, or maybe it looked huge since I was a kid. That thing rocked, a lot of wicked games.

Love the intro and the story of Jeff's wife real funny shit and don't be embarrassed Ryan we don't use the gifs for evil.

My review of this weeks show: :lol

Too funny. Too too laugh out loud funny.

Anyway hearing you talk about STALKER the last few weeks Shawn Ive been really really fucking keen to get it - as the style of gameplay you were describing is basically the biggest turn on for me in single player gaming experiences.

So after todays show I decided to finally get the game. Went to Blockbuster which didnt have PC games then another video store that didnt have it. So I decide to check EB. They had it for $50 and in Australia thats a brilliant price( <%50).

Anyway Im sure youll be glad to know that EB have great brand consistency across the world. The PC section was fucking atrocious, and was - as Max Chill said - like the porn section at the video store. EVERYTHING was in a shambles.... I literally LOL'd to myself when I notice that me and the girl beside me were looking at the PC games the same way.... ie. we were both turning our heads to almost a 90 degree angle to our neck just so we could read all the obscure fucking titles wedged haphazardly between each other with not the slightest sign of organisation.:lol

It was pretty fucking hilarious.

My hat goes off to Microsoft for trying to change it. They just need lessons in the execution department. I mean if it wasnt for GFW magazine and the occasional GFW branded game Id honestly think that they had canned the initiative.

no steamstalker for australia?

Possibly. Im not much of a PC gamer and I just got a PC with some decent hardware (only a laptop too).

So Ive never used Steam. I want to start though for Audiosurf among other things.

THQ's games aren't on Aussie Steam, because they're greedy fucks. They'd rather us pay full retail price.

I bought STALKER 2nd hand.

Less than 50bux? I was pretty stoked: I checked K-Mart first and found a copy for $70 then thought Id just check EB real quick and found it nestled in the corner just near "Backdoor Beauties", for $50.

Plus I can take it back should it not work.

Yeah, I got it for 30. I did see it in EB for 50 though, which surprised me.

All this STALKER talk just got me to load it up for the first time tonight. It's been on my "installed but unplayed" pile for a while.
Man, this game is creepy. There's definitely a feel about this game that isn't common in many Western shooters.

So far, I'm not totally digging the shooting. I'll try to get used to it though.

Does anyone know how to mark places to go on my PDA to show up on my mini map? Is that even possible?

I picked up the EU STALKER Collectors Edition for around £8 ($15) in some random shop in Belfast last year. I played it for a few hours and loved it. I need to finish it but I know it'll take me ages. In the few hours I was playing it, I was checking every body, picking up every weapon and comparing stats to know which to keep. I was carrying two rifles 'cause one had better stats but I had a lot of ammo for another.

My only problem with the game was that it wasn't running all that great for me. My system isn't top of the line, but it's pretty good, it can run new PC releases well, yet it couldn't handle STALKER on anything but Medium on a low resolution. I hope they optimize the engine for Clear Sky.

Maybe it runs better now, there's been a few patches

It's still installed on my computer at home, think i'll update it and try playing again when I get home.

Is there a date for Clear Sky yet?

a new patch for stalker went up yesterday. but might just have been multiplayer fixes in it.

clear sky is coming out in august.

Is Clear Sky going to have an updated graphics engine?
yeah, some updates. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VdVDeS-G3f8 good early clear sky video. they show off some stuff specifically a little bit into that, don't remember exactly how many minutes into it that part is right now. volumetric light and that stuff.

edit: 7 mins in. but really the whole vid is nice

I really enjoyed this weeks show, Robert should be a permanent chair.

The StarCraft 2 and Clear Sky talk was fantastic, I could listen to you guys all day.

I'm surprised Shawn didn't break down the concept of a "game boner" and then extend the metaphor.

I was half way expecting him to compare an unboxing video to autoerotic asphyxiation.

Yeah, I am curious why they didn't work in some kind of "refractory period" reference. Wonderful show as always, thank you gentlemen.

I tried diprip a couple of days ago. It would be a pretty fun game if they could sort out the steering controls, plus the fact everyone just seems to go missiles which turns it boring really quickly.

FUCK YES. The CGI robot animations are so necessary.

Probably my second favorite dance rap video, behind Fresh Kid Ice's "I Wanna Dance Yall" video that used to play all of the time on BET Uncut. It featured a cartoon Fresh Kid Ice karate chopping the constitution in half, and then escaping from a mountain in a helicopter.

I'd fistfight someone just to hear that song again.

For, those that haven't been there I just want to say:
Berkeley really is an amazing place, but with some crazy fucking lunatics.

Most of the people I met there were incredible and there is a ton of crazy fun shit to do.
It's just the vocal idiotic minority that gives it that "berzerkeley" appearance to everyone on the outside.

Exactly. Berkeley *is* an awesome place. Among other things, you've got:

Comic Relief--one of the best comic stores anywhere
Amoeba--one of the best record/CD stores anywhere
A buttload of fantastic bookstores: Cody's, Change of Hobbit, Moe's, Shakespeare & Co, Black Oak Books etc etc.
One great restaurant after another
Parks, bike-friendly atmosphere, easy access/view of the bay and SF, etc
The university, o'course

There's nothing wrong at all with living in a town full of freaks and geeks. It really is just this insane vocal minority that garners Berkeley the bad/press and image. I moved here from Los Angeles 28 years ago and have NO regrets.

/berkeley public service announcement :)

you just don't get it, man

the people at berkeley are trying to be

they just want to be with every fiber of their being

and you won't ever get that

so just go back to your on-the-grid warmachine and let them be

You've also got:

One of the worst homeless problems in the country.

Streets and gutters full of trash, discarded furniture, monitors, printers, old TV's, etc.

A guy who rides his bike around my neighborhood wearing chain mail armor. Wait, that's a plus.

A downtown blighted by an ever-increasing number of abandoned retail spaces (including the original Cody's).

A city government absolutely incapable of fixing any of it. But they sure did end the Iraq war!

Also: The University's great, but the UC system is so strapped for cash that parts of campus have begun to look like the Chernobyl exclusion zone from lack of upkeep. They've also had an outbreak of violent robberies in my wife's department. Like, in the building.

The food is fantastic, though. I'd brave Berkeley any day for an Early Girl tomato in high season or a slice of Cheeseboard Pizza.

What's with Shawn throwing Ryan under the bus so frequently? He did it twice on 1UpYours, and continues here. :( I don't mind it when he says snarky things about Shane, since Shane is so abrasive anyhow.....but with someone like Ryan it seems a little mean-spirited.

Anyhow, I enjoyed the talk about Berkley, and can't wait until I get a computer that is capable of competently running STALKER. For as much praise and discussion as it continues to get nearly a year after release, an 8 does seem a little low ;)

Ashley's talk on why RTSes are difficult almost perfectly summed up my problems. I'm still working at CoH and enjoying it despite my lack of ability, but I still can't even get the basic rules or use the interface to its fullest extent. I'm not even going to try and understand the advanced strategies and rules.

The one advantage CoH does have other RTSes, I feel, is that it's very easy to understand what a good micro strategy is, (cover is an easily visually communicated thing, after all) so even if I'm falling behind on tech or resources, I can occasionally win a skirmish within a battle just by managing a few squads well.

Oh come on. When have I ever seriously thrown Ryan under the bus? I love Ryan. He knows it. It's a gag. The moment people think I'm truly giving Ryan shit, I quit.

Why do you so enjoy chopping down the Smash Brothers woodsman?
