Love the comic talk, but I agree, love most of Gaiman's stuff on Sandman.

The Doll's House story arc is one of my favorites. The Corinthian Killer, the "Cereal" Killers Convention, Fiddler's Green...all quite entertaining.

I'm also going to toss out a recommendation for a graphic novel that I don't see mentioned quite as often nowadays: Arkham Asylum by Grant Morrison and Dave McKean.

Nerd cred: I have it signed with a McKean sketch. McKean's Cages is the better book, though. If you haven't heard of it, look it up.

Jonathan Hickman's Nightly News is a worthy read. He does some great design work with pages, inserting charts and graphs, and large chunks of text, yet still maintaining the flow of the story.

Never heard of that one, but I googled it and will definitely give it a try.

Thanks for the tip.

Have you read Punisher MAX? It's a lot better than his earlier Punisher stuff.
Punisher MAX is awesome. It's everything Punisher should be.

I've read up to, and including, Mother Russia.

though I don't think everyone who likes animal crossing has autism, I do wonder whats the big deal about it.
I don't get whats so fun about it; I've tried, but i just can't get into it.
Then again, i can't get into Harvest moon or even The sims.

I own all the Sandman graphic novels, and I don't hate them. I guess deep inside I'm just a bitter goth girl.

I don't hate ELO. They were my first ever rock concert. I have A New World Record on my iPod.

And my favorite comics of all time are: Reid Fleming: World's Toughest Milkman, Flaming Carrot, and American Splendor. (With Eightball, Hate, and Usagi Yojimbo right behind.)

When I was around 10, I used to have a Usagi Yojimbo figure, when they released one in the Ninja Turtles toy line.

Shit was awesome.

I can't believe Sean finished Turning Point, not just because it's a piece of shit, but he didn't manage to finish some 'other' mediocre FPS's.

Working your way through Blacksite and Turok this weekend, Sean?

I reviewed BlackSite, so yeah I solved it. I'm up on Condemned 2 right now. It's bad ass. No joke.

Hmm I downloaded the demo so will check out to see if I like it since the horror genre is up my alley.

Shit, I didn't think of this. Just hope the SDF does not catch wind, tears will flood the Earth.

Shawn, curious, any interest in the new Rainbow Six?

I have never read a comic in my life, but I always keep meaning to get into it. I loved the discussion, it definitely game me some ideas on where to start.

Jeff, what did you think of the American Splendor movie? As a film I loved it, but not being familiar with the comic I suppose my view of the movie was limited.

Shawn is like a gateway drug to entertainment media. First, he got me into PC games. Then, he got me into some of the books that he recommended. Now he's probably going to get me back into comics.

Hey New Frontier is fantastic, you guys need to give it a chance. I'm not as much of a comics geek as some of you GFW guys but I really enjoyed that book.

Recently got into Ex Machina, too, really cool so far.

My opinion on comics mentioned... maybe someone will care!

For me, preacher isn't that great and Sandman isn't that bad. They're both good. Sandman is more dated and has some crummy parts. Preacher felt too long and went overboard at times. Both are worth reading.

I don't get anything out of Chris Ware's work aside from an appreciation of his attention to detail and creativity in layout. It doesn't make for good storytelling to me, and the stories that he tells don't particularly interest me anyway. I'm going to give him another shot though, and try to approach it from more of a formalist perspective.

I'm not that into Dan Clowes, but I like Harvey Pekar.

Maus is pretty good but I personally got more out of some of the Joe Sacco stuff.

New Frontier is good but if you've never liked superheroes I don't think you'd really care. The art's gorgeous.

Walking Dead I dropped after the third or fourth volume but I mean to pick it back up eventually. It started to drag and feel too repetitive and manipulative of the reader without that much actual interesting story progression. Also Kirkman has some writing quirks that really bug me after awhile that come up in Invincible as well (which I get quite a bit of enjoyment from despite the similar problems). My major peeve with the guy is the way he'll have characters in dialog explain their feelings and motivations to each other all at once in a completely unnatural way. I love his plotting though and he has some neat ideas. It's good popcorn reading for me.

I've really enjoyed reading Fables, but it hasn't been mentioned as far as I can remember. Any fans/critics here?

Damn, I seem to have a lot of pent up comics opinion. Maybe I should join a comics forum again... any good ones these days?

Did you ever play the first one? That one was great, especially the dept. store level. I downloaded the demo for Condemned 2 last night. I liked what I played so I'm gonna try to pick it up this weekend...

K after playing the demo I am going to buy Condemed 2 it sold me and I am only going to play that game past 10:00 P.m with my windows open to get the max out of the game!

BTW how long is Condemned 2?

Another Youtube obese monster of filth.

I present, Fatman, showing off his dirty undies.

Totally not safe for work.

Here's his channel, in where you can witness him eat a block of cheese, and dance around naked.

Man... What little faith I had left in humanity, has finally been extinguished.

How can this man be proud of being fat? I don't get it. Being fat has a negative social stigma for a reason.

Fatman's gonna get the beetis, if he doesn't have it already

I would, but I've never played online...any room for a noob that'll be wiped out near instantly I'm sure?

Edit: Ah, you switched it to 2v2. I need to lose my fear and just jump in online. Last thing I want though is some team member bitching me out because I'm new and made some mistake.

If you play a bigger game later I'd be interested, again new to the game so I'm a little worried of jumping online and fucking it up for everyone else, name is Ikuu.

Edit: Tried to join the 2v2 game you had going to test my connection, but couldn't connect to PillowKnight, not sure if the problem is on my end or his.

I'm looking. Game isn't showing up. I can't figure out where the add friends button is...wow that makes me sound like a fool. My name is Tendo on there as well.

Edit: Nevermind, at least until May when I move out. Just like with TF2 and COD4 on PC, my university treats CoH like a P2P program and disconnects my port after its been connected for so long. Such a nice feature, turn my port off for 2 minutes to disrupt P2P programs. To bad it doesnt even stop p2p programs. I hate this place.

Company of Heroes uses the following ports to connect to the lobby, host games and accept connections:

UDP 6112
UDP 30260

hope that helps

I'll open those when I get my new place, but for now I'm stuck dormside with no access to the control panel. It's complete bullshit. My internet runs slow as hell anyway because the kid next door hosts all kinds of anime torrents sucking bandwidth for the whole building. I'm just ranting and being pissed now. Well I added you and pillow, I'll look you up in a few weeks.

Is there anyway to check if my ports are open, as I've set them in my router and I'm still not able to connect to half the people playing the game.

Just listened to most of this week's show [I'm behind, I know; don't ask], and it occurred to me why I like the show so much: GFW Radio has a much longer attention span than most podcasts. Shawn went into a lot of detail about the gameplay problems of Turning Point, a game not many core gamers care about or expect much from, and it turned into a good discussion about the state of FPSes. 1Up Yours would have turned it into "there are a lot of glitches and the gameplay isn't compelling. It doesn't compare to Call of Duty 4." There's value in taking the time to work through the conversation and not always pushing to the next AAA game's talking points.

Enough gushing. You guys suck because you spoiled The Wire. Until next week, this has been The Captain.

so I went ahead and bought RE4 Wii because of the podcast, even though I played the thing to death on GC and even once on PS2 to get some of the extra Ada stuff, but whatever. New controls make it totally worth it, poppin headshots is so much easier now. And the game? hasn't aged one bit. God I love it still. I wasn't planning on playing long tonight, but I ended up almost ending the first chapter.

Wait, they spoil the show on this week's episode? I was planning on watching The Wire soon. :( Should I pass on this week's GFW?
