GH: WT drums vs RB 2 drums - new drummer

Not at all.

My point is if you demand a port of a game within a small time frame don't expect it to be as good as the other versions. It's as simple as that.

And I've said it time and time again. The situation with RB2 is a different story, as HMX has had more than enough time to make a wii version. If it turns out like the PS2, then bitching is very well warranted.

Dude, they released Rock Band on Wii to make money. Not to give in to the demands of a few people on the internet. People whining didn't get it released, Harmonix deciding they wanted money for doing next to nothing is what prompted it. Unless they're willing to work on their graphics engine to scale it for Wii it'll be exactly the same in RB2 as it is now; a bunch of prerendered FMV videos.

I don't even know where to begin with this thread. Nobody has used the GH drums yet so we don't know what they're like, and the Rock Band drums are pretty much a walking disaster that has whole communities of people frantically trying to figure out how to get a set that fucking works properly.

And OP if you're a real drummer just get the ION limited edition set for RB2. You pretty much can't get any better than that.

Actually, you can. The ultimate setup is going to be the GH:WT drums using the MIDI-in and a high-end electronic drum kit. We're talking stupid money for that, though, obviously.

Thats what Im saying, If I hitting the yellow pad that looks like a tom tom triggers a high hat then its worthless to me.

Worse yet, for me would be the fills. It would suck to roll down the drums and hit the green crash that sounds like a tom and the blue cymbal for the final crash that's just a Tom. This whole charting thing is plain annoying on both setups. Neither setup is going to play naturally. GHWT looks the closest although it's missing a Tom. My ideal would be RB2 with cymbal expansions or the ion set with discrete inputs for the cymbal/hi-hat. Maybe make the expert level use the entire set with additional charted notes, while the lower difficulties use just the 4 pads and bass.

The hot for teacher video demostration sold me on the drums. I was getting World Tour anyway, since I'm a Wii owner, but the fact that every color is fixed to a certain part of the drum is a big point for me. You see the guy playing and he's just drumming the thing, he doesn't even need to look at the screen because he knows the drum patterns of the song. That's really awesome.

I have yet to see a video of the new RB drum working, but the old one can't compete with WT's in this regard.
I actually see that as a disadvantage. Effectively the RB pads can emulate three different toms and three different cymbals/hi-hat sounds while the GHWT pads can only do two toms and two cymbals/hi-hat sounds.

You might be able to just use the triggers from a nice kit with the Ion PS3/Xbox brain, we'll have to see, I guess.

Yes, probably in some parts it will be a disadvantage, but generally I think it will add to the experience. But anyway, I will have to wait and try it out myself. Then wait like 6 months before I can play expert drums and judge :lol

Hmm, a little research goes a long way:

http://blog.wired.com/games/2008/07/xbox-rock-band.html
At Activision's E3 press conference Tuesday, Guitar Hero director Brian Bright told the crowd that if they already owned guitar controllers and drum controllers from "previous games" on the Xbox 360, they'd work with Guitar Hero World Tour.

What Activision didn't say is how that will actually work, considering that Rock Band drums have four pad inputs and Guitar Hero World Tour has five.

UPDATE: Here's how it'll work. Speaking with Bright after the conference, I found out that the game's five-button drum track, shown above center, will be compressed down to four inputs if a Rock Band drum controller is inserted.

There's also a MIDI jack on the back of the drum kit, Bright said, which will allow gamers to play Guitar Hero with any electronic drum kit by simply plugging it into the controller. You can also hook up a second drum pedal if you want to play two bass drums.

So that is how they are doing it. You will arguably not have the same experience with the RB drums on GH:WT. I wonder though If you add the cymbal kit If they still need to remap the chart? I am also assuming that RB will support the WT drums since there is 5 pads however I have not seen any official mention of that.

Considering that Harmonix went to MTV in late 2006 and rock band was released roughly a year later, creating the entire game engine (guessing), securing the music rights, doing the motion capture, creating the art and assets, designing and producing the instruments, charting the music etc etc only took 1 year, you still think 6 months is not long enough to do anything more than port the PS2 version?

On a random side note ... I was at a buddies house a few weeks back, and broke his pedal (cracked in half, right next to the joint.

I fixed it by bolting on half of a small door hinge :lol
