EEEEE!

*watches title opening*

...SAITO, BABY, NO! What did they do to your FAAAAACE-!! D': Nooooooooo~

Why is she part of the TEAM. She was part of the Japanese military as a full fledged ADULT before joining section 9. WHAT IS THIS?! WHAAAAT IIIIS THIS.

Clearly aimed at men. Togusa looks alright, even with his signature mullet, but the rest look totes lame. (Saito... *sniff*)
Different continuity. As is every GiTS iteration.

I'm not the expert, but that's what everyone in this thread has been saying :p

All of the GITS creations are different continuations, they are not related except for some basic character templates. Hell even the first movie is not part of the original manga, but rather a shorten version of one the chapters of the manga.

Movie: Ghost in the shell, Ghost in the shell 2: Innocences are one continuation

TV: Ghost in the shell: SAC, SAC 2nd GiG, Solid State Society are also one continuation

Manga: Ghost in the shell, Ghost in the shell: Man Machine Interface are the original continuation

the novels:
"After a long good bye" is a prequel to Innoncences

"The lost memory", "white maze", "revenge of the cold machines" are side stories from the SAC universe.

and now this.

To be fair, they did do some super graphic enhancement with an homage to Blade Runner.

Now, if I hear "Ishikawa, create a GUI program in Visual Basic to track an ip address." It'd be the greatest/worst thing.

Fuchikoma/tachikoma looks pretty cool. I'm guessing its a fuchikoma or a new version seeing as this is set before section 9 and the Tachikoma AI was like 6 years old at that point?

The Majors look is growing on me. The general level of animation looks good. Ill have to get used to the faces lol

Are the Novels translated? Are they good?

They are translated. They're pretty quick reads. After the Long Goodbye is interesting. The other three read like weaker/shorter episodes of the SAC anime so YMMV on those. I enjoyed them for what they were and they're good if you need a GITS fix.

. . . GiTS is odd because almost everyone acts exactly the same way in all of the GiTS timelines. No one comes off as being dramatically different. i'd say the most glaring difference is Motoko being more philosophical in the first movie versus her being a lot more no-nonsense "just do it" in the second movie and the SAC series.

That's what I like about it. They are technically different universes, but they are so similar that you could almost interpret them as being the same universe except told from a different perspective.

Fist time seeing the trailers for this. Big fan of SAC, so while I'm disappointed it's not more in that universe, I still think this looks great! Can't wait to see it.

I was the one who made the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo comparison earlier in the thread and it looks like I was right. I'm kind of shocked that this isn't a full season order so I think they're trying to gauge interest. The designs of most of the characters are quite all right, but the Motoko reimagining is still terrible.

This is going to be a more focused take on the IP, but the truth of the matter is that some of SAC's best episodes were the stand alone episodes that had virtually zero to do with the overall story arc. They don't have that benefit with this version.

It helps for there to be a physical seperation between timelines in order to not have long term fans get annoyed that their favorite characters are acting dramatically different. I dunno... from my experience, trying to appease long term fans is a gargantuan and ultimately pointless effort. They will find things to whine about. It's their hobby after all.

The new character designs look pretty good.. Well, except for Motoko, she looks like a skinny teenager with anger management issues.

As an almost completely different side, has anyone read Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro? The whole time I read it I thought it could be an awesome existential AI/robot anime. Just
replace the plot detail that they are clones with them being robots
and it would be perfect. Actually, I think that's what Eve no Jikan sort of already is.

Anyway, back to bitching about emo Kusanagi

Really, I love all the transcendental songs. They do the best to shape the feel that GiTS has. It's funny watching shows that came after that try to do similar things like Darker than Black or Psychopass, which, outside of the core characters, feel completely lifeless due to a lack of really interesting musical work (DtB more so since that is a Yoko Kanno score). Even Aquarion, in all it's goofy high school antics, feels like a more well rounded universe due to an amazing score and really superb themes.

That being said, I want Yoko Kanno for this. I never don't want Yoko Kanno.

Jealous of the Glory that is Johnny Depp
The OP might as well have some random background noise, that song is garbage.

Inner Universe was so awesome, though. I am disappoint.

Ah, the first time I saw the Ghost in the Shell movie trailer...
I had never seen anything like that before.
I had never heard anything like that before.
This movie... was calling me.
I still hear its call each time I listen to Making of a Cyborg.

Anyone know of any working links to the unreleased songs of SAC ost? It is odd to me how uncommon some of that music is.

Just saw the trailer. Looks very nice. Seems to be more action oriented with a young school girly Motoko pulling more off the wall, impulsive stunts than her older incarnation.

I would like to know this as well. If this is true, why not turn it into an OAV?

?????

How hard is it for you guys to read the OP? :(

"Details:

- 4 part movie-OVA. 50mins each. First volume opens on June 22, DVD/BD released on July 26."

Ugh, The Major's new design is so bland....Still going to watch it for comparisons though.

Wearing pants is bland now?

Considering most of the characters in the show are government, police, or military specialists, I don't see anything particularly "bland" about them. Hell, Ishikawa is even rocking some Tokyo urban ninja shit that's popular right now, which is sort of funny considering this is supposed to be a prequel. I guess he gets way into early 90s fashion as he ages?

But really, nobody besides Saito, the Major and Aramaki's smooshed face looks that different from their SAC iterations.

This iteration is so bland and it has nothing to do with wearing pants. Check this out:
