Better trailer than the first, but still looks like an average summer comedy that I've seen before and will probably be forgotten a few months down the line. I would like to be wrong but that won't happen any time soon since I haven't seen anything to make me think this film is worth a trip to the cinema for.
The original GB was a special effects tentpole movie, too. I'm not seeing the problem.

Better trailer but it doesn't change what has been seen. Would have been a much better introduction to the movie having this trailer first then release a bad comedy trailer later. In some ways this new trailer comes across as going over the top on trying to kiss and make up with fans.
Ghosts definitely feel like upgraded Scooby Doo 2 movie stuff.

No doubt, but that has more to do with the general shift in marketing tactics on behalf of media companies and toy makers. I believe Reagan lifted some restrictions on that front early in the decade, and that plus the mountains of cash Star Wars was raking in caused a bunch of companies to go chasing after that with whatever they could.
Appropriateness ceased being a factor pretty early on in the 80s. Which is why you had Robocop and Rambo Saturday Morning Cartoons, for example. At that point companies were just nakedly turning Saturday Morning into a turducken of plastic advertising. Might as well push all in with whatever you had.
This is how most of us grew up.

No but TMNT was a favourite as a kid and I had the same reaction to the new reboot.
Ghostbusters is not a kids' movie, but that's belaboring the point. All Fusebox really meant was that it's a long-running property that for many people has roots all the way back to their childhood.....which is why the reboot is an inherently different situation than just ignoring an obvious clunker like Gods of Egypt.
I'm betting Bobby is beyond tired of hearing that line. Probably ever since he left the movie theater when he saw the movie for the first time.

Not completely true. We got "Real Ghostbusters" which ended in 1991, also "Extreme Ghostbusters" in 1997 (IMO a criminally underrated cartoon), also since 2004 IDW have been published different comics including "The New Ghostbusters"
Thing is, comic books are not mainstream and people put little attention to them, these days superheros are popular due movies, not comics. Also the video game from 2009.

Man, re-watching Ghostbusters 1 for the first time in a looong time, I'm even more surprised by the backlash to the new one. The jokes are so... muted in it. There are some bits of amusing dialogue, but I just can't imagine anyone watching it for the first time in 2016 and laughing throughout all of it. It made me go and look up the responses for it at the time it came out, yielding a 67 equivalent on Metacritic.
It's a film so rooted in people's nostalgia of it. And that's fine. But the lack of self-awareness about that for so many people criticizing the new one for not living up to what was essentially considered an okay comedy upon its time of release is so interesting to me. And if anything, the original Ghostbusters is also badly suited to trailers because so much of the appeal seems to be rooted in the characters' interactions with one another and not so much zippy one-liners or gags.
I'm curious: who here saw Ghostbusters 1 as an adult at the time of release? And if you did, what was your reaction to it? Just curious.

I don't think it looks like the worst movie ever like the like/dislike bar would lead you to believe, but it certainly doesn't look good either.
I could see it turning out like the Robocop reboot. Decent movie in it's own right but doesn't really feel like a good continuation of the ancient IP.

And honestly, most of the praise for the 2009 game has less to do with the gameplay and more to do with the fact the cast came back, and even then, you have to acknowledge that Murray gave zero fucks and it shows.
How does this look "lazy" to you?
If anything, the misfires you see in the trailers seem to come from expending a ton of effort.
"Trying hard," if you will.
That's because they're really good. If you're a Ghostbusters fan I highly recommend picking up the collections of these comics.

I was only 3 years old when the original Ghostbusters was in cinemas, but this is a movie that I later saw on VHS and it quickly became one of my all time favourite childhood movies. I loved the cartoon series as well, and actually saw the second movie at the cinema.
The 2009 game holds up really well. It is a linear story driven game that does borrow a few elements from Gears of War and maybe a little bit of Uncharted. Which is not surprising, given the that those types of games were what was popular when Ghostbusters 2009 was in development. But Ghostbusters does managed to carve out some really unique features that I haven't seen done in other games, it does the ghost wrangling and trapping mechanics really well, and requires the player to work with the other AI NPC's (The original Ghostbusters) as a team. It is a well designed game and has a good co-op campaign.
It was also a novelty to have the original cast return, not just the four ghostbusters but also Annie Potts, the guy that played Walter Peck , the manager at the Sledgewicks hotel and even the guy that played Vigo in Ghostbusters II reprises his role too. Shame there was no Sigourney Weaver or Rick Moranis though. Weaver regretted not returning for the game, but did lend her voice to Alien Isolation. Bill Murray's voice acting job is a little uneven, but at least he showed up. Dan Aykroyd is the most energetic of the voice cast, but Hudson and Ramis also did good work as well. The script also resolves itself a bit to abruptly as well, which is a bit of a shame. Alyssa Milano also felt shoehorned in as an unneeded love interest for Murray's character.
Ghostbusters 2009 works as a well made game and it also functions as Ghostbusters fan service. As far as licensed games go, this is still one of the better examples of how to do it right.

The post you're quoting simply says the crew was one of the entities that complained about the movies racism. Not that the entire crew left.
It's also the first time I've even seen this example brought up in this discussion, so it's not like it needs to hit the bench due to exhaustion or anything.

I'm a big GB fan and the trailer looked fun to me, so I'm planning to check it out. Does it really look so bad to that many people? That seems hard to believe.
If you ignore the cartoons and comics it is even weirder to hate on this .... is the first reason for merchandising and reiviving of something you love you had in a LONG time. if you are really a fan you should be celebrating because the other option is YOUR BELOVED FRANCHISE IS DEAD FOREVER

Yeah, this is what gets my goat. We're finally getting new Ghostbusters FFS!
I hated the first trailer and understood the dislikes to a degree. Although I didn't really find the second one super funny, it actually looks like more of an interesting movie that's more in line with Ghostbusters. Definitely does not deserve the ratio of likes/dislikes its getting.

I like Ghostbusters.
But people are being fucking disgusting in regards to the hate this movie is getting.
You want to act like it's because "everyone else" is oversensitive, that's fine. But that doesn't mean I have to stop calling people on their bullshit.
And, honestly? The fact that you actually spend this much vehement energy and time defending people who say "I'm not sexist" while at the same time trying to demonize everyone else speaks volumes about how invested you are in actually looking at this issue from a non-biased viewpoint.

In my memory, the original SFX weren't so much in your face and loud. And they kinda complement the tone nicely. While the SFX in new one, from the trailers, looks like run of the mill eye candy you get from bad movies
