Ghostbusters Trailer 2

Eh your last point could be seen as him showing and explaining in a certain way to people why he would not make a good review, simply because he already doesnt like the trailers and his nostalgia for the past movies is so strong it would be hard to get a "balanced" review.
So i dont get why people are angry at him.. he is not responsible for the shit show that came after his actual "reasonable" video.

His points aren't reasonable in the slightest though. His major problems with the film are that:

1. It doesn't have a subtitle.
2. The old actors are playing the *wrong* cameos.
3. It's not the movie he's been fanficing in his head for the last 15 years.

These are not reasonable objections for a good critic to have at all.

The reason other critics and bloggers have been dumping on James is because these are not just poor criticisms but laughably poor criticisms.

Well I hope you have a lot of money, they were $150 on the Matty Collector website (and that's what I got it for thankfully) but they sold out a long time ago, now you can buy them on ebay for $300+

I always think if I became a millionaire I'd have so much cool shit. Not boats, stupid houses and cars, but a geek paradise.

If only I had listened to your words of wisdom sooner.

Ice cold right there.

"The film should have had a subtitle so I don't have to type Ghostbusters 1984 into Amazon." is such an absurdly entitled stance to take. I like James, and I mostly understand that what happened with Ghostbusers is a lot rougher than usually happens with remakes (Ghostbusters 3 is teased for years and occasionally looks like it might happen, then one of the stars dies and a remake almost immediately goes into production that isn't aimed at the original fans... that's rough. I can empathize). But he just sounded... yeah... incredibly entitled. Like they owe fans of the original something more before they can even think about a remake.

Do you know what's going to be great though? Seeing the original Ghostbusters on the big screen again. This year we've had Ghostbusters content released for LEGO Dimensions, the Ghostbusters LEGO Firehouse (worth every dollar if you ask me), and another rerelease of Ghostbusters at the cinema.

What a terrible time to be a fan of Ghostbusters.

Who defines whether a personal objection is reasonable?
Why does it matter? James' critiques are only for his youtube channel, not a national publication.

Don't bother reasoning with such lovely comments such as this

It's pathetic really. An all female Ghostbusters movie boils their blood. I kind of feel sorry for these sad human beings.

Yup, that's why they all hate the recent Star Wars movie with a female lead, also lots of hate for the trailer for the spin off Rogue One also with a female lead. Oh and who could forget the hate in the past of strong female characters like Ripley or Sara Conner. Oh wait, there wasn't. Why, because those movies didn't suck. Gender has very little to do with the negative reactions to this movie. It's getting hate for all the same reasons other unneeded reboots and remakes of classic movies get. The only thing pathetic is certain people using this as an example of sexism or misogyny. As if that were the only possible reason one would not want to see this movie.

Well to be fair until the movie is out like all the ones you've mentioned we don't know if it's good. Still speculating on trailer and potentially leaked script information is fine, but both sides are going way overboard at times just now. Unfounded name calling isn't going to do anything to make the released film any better or any worse.

Trailer had p. good visuals and cinematography and attention to detail and set design, jokes were still bad. I think the only one that landed at all was the "I don't know if that was a race thing or a lady thing" line, which worked entirely on the strength of the delivery, which makes me wonder what the hell the deal with the first trailer was. It's like Leslie Jones' character in that and her character in this were two completely different people.

Thats my point he is displaying that he currently values his nostalgia more than this new take on Ghostbuster so he showed everyone that he probably would not make a fair and balanced review and therefore no one should be pissed at him that he isn't reviewing the movie.
He himself knows his bias and he showed it to his fans he is smart enough to understand he has no place in seriously reviewing this movie. Nostalgia is one hell of a drug FF7 fan speaking :P

That's not what he's saying at all. He's saying he refuses to see the film because he already believes it will be a bad film.

If you need to dig through my post history to find the one shitty and snarky joke I made before realizing that many of you were fans of this guy, rather than addressing my actual points than by all means, go ahead.

I think I'm coming around to the idea that the new Ghostbusters reboot (or G-boot, for short) should have a subtitle.

I nominate "Ghostbusters: The Ghost Dimension"

I'm really not understanding this whole cheap reboot cash-in stance that have people huffing and puffing... while in the next breath saying it would be a "different story" if this were a proper sequel. Isn't making a sequel to an over 30-year-old franchise as much of a safe bet and cash grab as a full-on reboot?

Is that....bad? I didn't see Batman vs. Superman because the trailers made it look terrible. I told my friends any time it came up that I wasn't going to see it, and we discussed my reasons.

James is known as a fan of old movies and games, including Ghostbusters. His friends and fans would naturally expect him to see it and will/would have asked him about it...and he decided to take the initiative and head that off, and do a bit of ranting in the process.

Why is there anything wrong with that?

I've already addressed this on this very page.

It's not wrong to avoid seeing a film if you don't like the trailer, obviously.

But when you're a professional critic, it's generally considered poor form to publish stuff like this.

He's an enthusiast and entertainer more than a critic, though. He has done some reviews, but it's one of the many things he does.

I had those as a kid as well, but has anyone here stepped up to the next level and bought the Ghostbuster prop replicas from Matty collector from the past few years? I have them all but the Ecto Goggles since they didn't get good reviews. I'm hoping that they release a proton pack someday since I don't want to build one and it's super expensive to buy a custom built one.

I went to a local theater a couple years ago that Ernie Hudson made an appearance at and there were probably a dozen people with custom equipment. Ghostbusters fans are ridiculous haha.

He's done over 300 film reviews on a website and Youtube channel that is his primary profession. He's a professional critic.

Maybe Ghostbusters is like the Zelda series and this is just another retelling of the same story by a future civilization perverted by the fog of time.

Speaking of which, there are finally good action figures available. Diamond Select is doing a set that includes this entire diorama when you buy all the figures.

And these are now available at Wal-Mart and other stores.

I love how every time when its going to be unpleasant for somebody because of his comments its always "just a joke".

It is perfectly reasonable to prejudge a film by its trailer and make a decision on whether or not you think the film is bad and also if you should go to watch it or not.

Yep. I've seen 2 trailers, both made the film look like complete trash. I'll be skipping it.

When have reboots been a safe bet? They are almost always unnessary and unwanted by the people who like the originals and are of no interest to people unfamiliar with them. A well done sequel would always be the safer bet because at least you have the fans wanting to see it.

Looks like they went too comedy with this. Comes off as a parody. The black character is shamelessly stereotypical in these trailers, and something about Hemsworth just makes me roll my eyes... Ghostbusters was funny, but it wasn't total camp. It knew when to take itself seriously and had some genuine eerie moments for kids.

Hopefully the trailers are a bit misleading, but I doubt it.

I met Ernie Hudson once, he's an incredibly nice dude, legit one of the coolest celebs I've ever run into. and he's as much of a Ghostbusters nerd as anyone :P

So what's the end game in all of this? You all trying to guilt James into watching the movie or something?

We're on a discussion forum that's primarily based on sharing your opinion on a particular type of media. I'm criticizing a piece of media. Does there need to be an endgame when someone posts about how Uncharted 4 was disappointing to them?

He is like the most chillest Hollywood actor ever. Got to eat breakfast with him at a convention. Was even gonna pay for his meal. He got up to go use the restroom, and when it was time to collect the bill, it was already paid for. Sneaky bastard :P

If matty collector made a proton pack replica to go along with my PKE Meter, Ghost Trap and Neutrino Wand I would almost certainly get a Ghostbusters uniform made and dress up as a Ghostbuster for Halloween and other appropriate occasions. I have 0 interest in any sort of other cosplay, but there's just something special about Ghostbusters.

Looks pretty mediocre. Good actors, bad comedy. Much more shouting punchlines and hammering home jokes via eye-rolls and sideways glances. Original films seemed more quiet, this one seems uncharacteristically zany and in-your-face. I think my middle schoolers will love it. I'd like more of the characters' personalities and chemistry together to be shown. That's really what's going to make or break this movie, but I'm not seeing it in the trailers.

Keep telling yourself that.

Just like all of Feig's other movies, amirite? lolzzzzz

I'm damn curious to see how it goes. The internet hate is real, that's for sure. That doesn't necessarily mean anything, though, as we've seen with the Transformers and latest Ninja Turtles movies.

I've shared this on here before, but I thought this was a surefire hit, too. Then I saw the trailer with Batman V Superman at a midnight sold out showing. The only part of the trailer that got a laugh at all was the slapping bit. It was literally dead fucking silence for the rest of the trailer. Obviously that doesn't mean the movie is doomed. But, I was pretty shocked to see people just absolutely not responding to it. I've been in theaters and seen Adam Sandler shit that is far worse get tons of laughs. So, I just don't know how this will actually go down.

I want to see this because I love Chris Hemsworth and his character looks fun, but I don't want to see it because the rest of it doesn't look great. Not nearly as horrible as the internet's making it out to be, just not great.

Maybe I'll watch it on Netflix or something.

Yeah, he was cool. The speech he made in the theater before the movie made me feel bad for him though. He talked about how drastically his role was cut from the original script and how he wishes that he could have had one signature, starring role in his career. Also, losing the voice-acting role for Winston in the cartoon must've been outrageous.

Feig gets the benefit of the doubt from me purely on the basis of Spy being so much better than I expected it to be.

I definitely don't see the movie pulling over 100 million in opening day. 50-60 million sounds likely. Which wouldn't be bad for this. I just don't see it bombing like some seem to think it will.

I can see it breaking even if the reviews are favourable - probably $350-400 million or so. $500 million on the high end, which would mean a sequel. There's a lot of mud in the water so I expect people to be wary of it.

It's gonna have a fight to put up with, I think, for a few movies drop before that may do well (Secret Life of Pets), and some other movies drop shortly after GB2016.(Star Trek, Ice Age). It may get the #1 spot the first week, but I have a feeling the second week its gonna get eaten.

I'm curious to see it just because of all the controversy. I don't know if I want to pay money for it though, and I doubt my friends are interested.
