GI: Mario Maker won't support Youtube uploading like MK8/Smash 4 has

Like Smash, I can see them updating the game and allowing for YouTube uploads in the future. If fans are vocal enough, it could happen. We'll see...

Im sure they'll patch it later.

They're not thinking right, imagine, you upload to youtube a video of your level, with a code so players can download it in their game and play it.

It's a no brainer!
I mean they gave the exact reason why it's not a no brainier. I don't want someone figuring out the puzzle to a level just by watching me trial and error over and over again. Figure it for yourself. This game is about creating new possibilities and discovering them. This also doesn't take away from the plethora of YouTube personalities the will stream and record the game anyways.

And here comes the faux outrage. In a game where literally everything else is done right lets harp on lack of YouTube uploading in a game not entirely necessary for the general public.

It's not faux outrage. It's just disappointment. I just want to see cool shit happening and from a company that releases videos like this a couple of years ago of their playtesters speed running though NSMBU to not allowing native youtube uploading is again, disappointing.

On the face of it that's a bit silly as Youtube would be a great way to promote your levels...

...on the flipside I suppose if you show the whole level then you also ruin its surprises before anyone else plays it.

Now that you mention this, it makes sense. The Developers would rather experience the level without knowing all its secrets, instead of watching someone else solve everything for you.

I'm still bitter that Splatoon doesn't have YouTube upload either.
Let's hope they'll as that via patch later. Such an oversight.

But it's a good way to advertise a specific level. People have done that with games like LittleBigPlanet and Trials. They'll see a Youtube upload of a cool level and then go and check it out. It's a good way to get exposure for a cool level that you've created.

I completely agree. I think it would be a good way to show off the best levels the Super Mario Maker community has to offer, but when I think about it. The people that would be getting most of these views are people that stream or do Let's Plays on a consistent basis and have a big following. These people wouldn't really use the YouTube feature implemented in a game.

I think that the more features they can add, the better, just as long as it doesn't sacrifice the core experience. In my previous post, I mentioned that Smash didn't have YouTube uploading as a feature at launch, but they patched it in, for some reason. There's still a chance for it to happen with this game as well.

"We thought about it... but nah, we think incorporating the ability to upload to Youtube will lead to less people playing the game"

This is basically what they are saying. How can anyone read this and not see how out of touch this is?

I would have rather them just not included the feature and been silent about it. This explanation makes them seem ridiculous

We thought about having YouTube uploading, but it’s not in our game. The reason for that is other than just watching movies of courses, we’d rather players play them and experience them in that way.

Geez...

Out of touch..

I also think this line of thinking extends to Voice Chat...not that they want to protect the kids

Also here comes the Nintendo Avatars saying how its no big deal, because they dont want it/wouldnt use it

50% of the reason I want it is to try great levels and I don't think we'll really find those without a good way to show levels. I mean, are we going based of screenshots and a super simple star rating scheme?

Hopefully the likely NX version will have youtube uploading if this doesn't.

What's wrong with inceasing the visibility of your creations, also seeing someone do the level doesn't automatically make one able to clear it. And not all levels will be puzzles, this game has the tools to create awesome intense action levels, like pseudo shootem ups with the clown cart+fire flower, which people would be able to see on youtube and want to try.

You are aware NSMBU doesn't have YouTube uploading right? Which mean even without a native YouTube uploader in the game videos like this will still happen. They're not including the option because of the legitimate reason they gave. In a community created game I don't want to know the secrets of a complex level. I want to figure it out for myself. The option is still there for people with capture equipment and individuals with interest in spoiling themselves.

I actually didn't know people wanted this particular feature.

The one that people most worried about was just sharing and playing with the community things that you and others made.

Yes, but now we wanna play things the community made and let other people see what we played.

There's always a new thing people want to do.

W the actual F?!?... then don't upload it to Youtube?

If we had the option that would still be your choice

Are they stupid or something? How am I supposed to know which levels to download if I can't watch them first? Why should anyone download my levels if I can't show them off?

there are a lot of ways to find levels within the game. check out some of the treehouse footage, it's on Nintendo's youtube (lol) channel.

wait, why would you want to watch a level before playing it?

The thought that this might be a useful feature in Super Mario Maker hadn't even occured to me, and it still hasn't.

Love it in MK8, will be great in Smash, should be added to Splatoon. Competitive games are where these features shine.

Splatoon and this game would have made for some awesome replays. I just don't get this rationale sometimes.

I agree, you'd think Luigi death stare would have sold them by now, but i think it just isn't a major priority during development. Both could get it patched in though.

Moronic. They need to have the sharing features go beyond just Wii U's for the sharing purposes and honestly I thought YouTube was gonna be a shoe in. Yes playing them is so much more fun, but this way you can have more awareness.

Made a thread post e3 about how Mario Maker would benefit greatly with a companion mobile app that would let you see videos of other players playing or check the overall layouts of the levels as well as the ability to edit your levels on the go (not saved until you save that on the console). You can expand your audience by doing cross promotion

Thread made it to 10 posts sadly but here's my op

So first things first, SMM looks great. The creative liberties they've taken all seem amazing, feels like all child like possibilities and imagination is integrated in the game. Stuff like what would happen if jumped from bellow a spikey, or slight alterations to fan favourites like the Kuribo's Stiletto. It's fantastic and I'm really looking forward to it.

However it seems like a prime candidate for mobile connectivity. I'm not suggesting to make the 2d levels playable on mobile, the main hook of the console version would be to play the actual levels you make or download, making it an incentive to buy the game, as well as the impossibility of playing a Mario game on touch controls.

SMM on mobile however, would let you search for other levels, watch videos of them being played and bookmark them for future downloads. They could allow for tentative tweaks and or stand alone creations that wouldn't be able to uploaded until you beat them in your console first. Now, designing levels without being able to play them as you go would make it a lot harder to design them, but it would still make it for a compelling experience I believe. You could also and leave comments on other levels via Miiverse.

Basically it allows for Mario to go Mobile, but not eat away at their traditional releases, but instead build on top of each other and provide synergy. Reach other audiences, let you stay connected with your game and allow you to keep experimenting with it at all times. It really seems like a no brainer.

So what do you guys think? Could it work? Is it a right product for mobile? Seems like the perfect match for what their strategy is for mobile development, bolster awareness of their console games.

And sorry if this isn't thread worthy at e3 time and should've gone in the OT.

YouTube upload automatically includes a link to the level in description (if posted to online service). Clicking the link queues up the level for you in a list in Mario Maker to try yourself.

I didn't even think of Youtube... It never crosses my mind to associate this game with Youtube. It's a fun distraction in MK8

"Why would i want to see a gamplay trailer of a game before playing it?"

Seeing that Smash is getting this in an update I won't be surprised if this eventually gets updated later on. Same for Youtube replays in Splatoon.

Lol...

Top part tells you how to find gameplay footage before playing it
Bottom part mocks the idea of watching gameplay footage before playing it

I cant even...

Maybe you should...I don't know...

...not be a sheep and try to find The Next Best Map instead of following what is hip and cool?

Hmm, when I thought of Mario Maker in the past Youtube uploading didn't come up with a list of features that I thought was needed or necessary. I'm super pumped still we have level sharing though.

Youtube videos being supported may have helped exposure but I am not in the know with that kind of stuff so I can't make a judgment call on it.

Really looking forward to the game otherwise!

I'll have a look.

I mean, LBP didn't NEED it to find good levels, but they had a really good website to see creations...but yeah you had to just try them.

Not the end of the game but I hope they've done something smart about getting good levels to the front. LBP team were super supportive about finding top picks to play etc.

It actually makes perfect sense. You are mocking the idea of someone viewing something before they play it....

Tell me, without seeing any footage of gameplay, why would download Stage A over Stage B?

no, not really. I'm questioning (not mocking) why someone would want to spoil themselves of a level before playing it.

I can't recall all of the ways you can sort things but I know you can favorite certain people if they make levels you like, there are difficulty ratings based on how many people finished the level, the star rating of course, and I'd be shocked if there wasn't a way to sort by the different Mario themes

You just defeated your own argument. People are going to do it anyway. Might as well have the option built in the system in the first place. I posted the NSMBU video to show that Nintendo didn't have this stance at one point of 'feeling watching other people will stop playing the game'.

Just download both and try them. It's hardly a huge investment. And then, when you're done, rate them.

Why would you want to see someone do an entire level before you then go and do the same thing? There goes any surprise.

On second thought...

It would be really cool to watch videos of levels being created kind of like with Sketchpad's drawing. Would really love to see how some great levels are created with trial and error.
