I love the content that has been coming out recently.

Patrick has clearly been the content leader, giving us content on a daily basis.

Brad has been doing some nice long features and basically giving us an endurance run

Vinny is a constant presence both behind and in front of the camera.

Drew and Rorie are fun to have on any show.

When Jeff is in something, he is great as always. I just wish he could find a feature all his own. Something truly "Jeff".

Probably will happen when they hire that business-end guy. I'd really like to see more writing from Brad and Jeff, who are really good at it. Also what happened to that column Alex did? That was super good.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.
I totally agree.... I'm a premium so I have access to all that stuff but man must the site sucks if you don't pay.

I was a member since they started and just recently haven't had the funds to re-up for the past few months....site is just fine. Lots of Quick Looks and Daily Patrick vids keep the content coming.

Those sub fees probably allow them to do a lot of that content they couldn't do otherwise.

It's less than $5 a month. I see it as you can either pay a few bucks a month and get fantastic gaming related content or you can go to IGN and get over saturated bullshit.

Yeah it seems a bit crappy without premium. Just Patrick stuff and Quick Looks, and when game season is slow like it's been the past few months, then there's not much content for the latter.

It seems that way because the site is over saturated with bullshit.

Go to IGN and imagine if they cut out 100% of the bullshit. If they cut out all the fluff and all the bullshit top X and other nonsensical click bait articles. cut all the shitty uneeded videos that offer no real information and what are you left with? few hours of content a month? Do you want a giantbomb that is a copy/paste blog with a bunch of top X list? click bait articles?

I really, truly believe that $5 a month for extra GB content and to support some of my favorite internet people is truly worth it. Giant Bomb has been with me through some really tough times and helped me a lot. Great site I am supporting it for life.

I suspect Jeff is in the middle of the hiring process right now, which is why we're not getting a lot of content from him. I'd figure if they are hiring new people they want them fully on-boarded by E3.

I also suspect he's getting a little burnt out and needs a vacation, based on comments from his Tumblr. But the only person who really knows is Jeff.

If you're not a subscriber the site feels pretty dead.
Yeah, I guess I take it for granted that I pay for the content. But I don't know what the alternative is... I don't really care about reviews anymore, since after 10 years, all reviews are still written in the exact same way. Gamespot rebooted their weekly new releases show (after the mess that was the Wednesday new game show), so they don't even need to do that anymore. Having them stream old games seems to be where the sweet spot is for them.

Why dont they just offer the first 2-5 min of every subscriber video for free? Sort of a demo thing.

To most people, GiantBomb looks like a dead site, they do not know what they are actually missing because its behind this GiantWall

The only way non subscribers can see what is up, is if they go to the Subscriber page and see the content that is being produced, but why would most non subscribers go there, since they know its off limits for them anyway?

I feel like the weird stuff they used to do was them just spending a shitload of time trying to find their form. GB is a video content site now. They have a bunch of set shows and formats that they produce on the regular, and that probably keeps them on budget.

I've never read a single GB review, but I watch pretty much all of the video content (paid and free) except for the DOTA2 stuff.

I need more of that Brad beard.

Express your desire for more Brad beard to him on twitter. I tweeted at him the other day about it because beard Brad truly is best Brad. Dude looks suaaaave.

No ones saying GiantBomb should turn into that, but I'm sure everyone would love to see new features of value being put out. I'd love more Quick Looks. I feel like a lot of interesting stuff slips through the cracks and I don't know the stuff behind the scenes that may be causing less quick looks, but it would still be nice to be getting more.

Oh man, they're talking about WinBack on the Friday show. I played so much of that game on N64. I vividly remember a magazine ran a dual shooter feature showcasing both WinBack and Perfect Dark. This was YEARS before PD actually released though. WinBack was very frustrating but I remember tolerating it at the time.

For me, I think Unprofessional Fridays is the best and worst thing. It has given an outlet for them to do all the crazy bullshit that they want - the stuff that makes the site fun. As a result, the rest of their stuff feels less off-the-wall. If you're not a subscriber, you get nearly none of the crazy shit, and even if you are, it feels a little too deliberate to have it all packed into one day. You still get a glimpse of it in the quick looks, but it's rarer than it used to be. I still love UnPro Fridays though, I just wish they'd embrace that spirit more with the rest of their content.

They should rename their other features to Unprofessional Quick Look, Unprofessional Unfinished and Breaking Unprofessional Brad.

As for the discussion in the last page or so, more written content would be great. But realistically we'll have to wait until they hire some more people to see any of that, as I can't imagine articles being that great from a financial standpoint.

I finished Demon's Souls recently and I've come to the conclusion that Dark Souls beats it in almost every category except level design and arguably level variety. There are many little things that are done right in Dark Souls that they stack up and overwhelm Demon's Souls, from things like the simplified upgrading system, interconnected areas minimizing loading, removal of carry weight and the stupidity of not being able to carry something you pick up, letting it drop to the floor and it disappearing forever, 50% of the NPC interactions tied to an obscure world tendency that requires a lot of counter-intuitive gaming to work, limiting healing items from abundant grasses to Estus Flasks. Dark Souls has more magic, more weapons and weapon variety, covenants, and NPC quests that you can take without being hidden behind some crazy mechanic. You can just warp to another place without having to go back to the Nexus, wait for loading, go into another world, wait for loading, spawn at destination. The majority of unique weapons are useless (i.e. not viable, not that it's only used in power builds) because Colourless Demon's Souls are extremely limited if you're not willing to tank your world tendency. The addition of poise increases the value of heavy armour as a tradeoff for mobility. The one thing I wish was carried over is trading boss souls for spells, which you can only do with one spell in Dark Souls.

So yeah I think Dark Souls is superior to Demon's Souls in almost every category, not to say I didn't enjoy Demon's Souls but I like Dark Souls a whole lot more.

Watching Vinny play Dark Souls I often thought "Yeah this part was cool, I should play Dark Souls again" and actually ended up getting the PC version and going through the game twice.

Watching Brad play Demon's Souls, most of the time my reaction is "Oh god this part completely sucked, why do I like this game again?"

man, the trailer for the binding of isaac is so terrible. i saw it a long time ago and it completely made me overlook the game and now i feel stupid. i'm really glad patrick has been spotlighting it with the binding of patrick, it showed me the game is actually pretty damn cool. now i own it and have put 14 hours into it already.

trailer that made me write off the game, sadly for me:

I've only just realised The Hotspot has been taken offline. Trying to find an old episode. Stupid internet.

Ditto, I wish I could listen to them since I never had the chance first time around. Don't know if there's a torrent lying around anywhere, but I've had no luck in finding it.

I don't disagree with any particular point you made, but you also kind of answered your own question as to why some prefer Demon's over Dark. Level design and variety was less rushed and more imaginative in demon's souls, especially those terrible last few levels in dark souls.

Both amazing games, but Demon's is still worth playing just for the variety of content alone.

Yeah, it's worth noting that even a site as massive as Gamespot only puts out one regular video a day (excluding trailers etc) - and a couple of those are cut by the editors themselves.

But people are bang on that GB needs to do better when it comes to promoting their sub content. Treat it like a porn site, free previews on everything. They seem to be going in that direction with the free powerbombcast episode - so maybe it's just a technical limitation which the engineers haven't gotten around to?

I don't really think they need to do more written stuff, but I do feel Patrick's amount of output kind of makes it look like Jeff, Brad and Vinny only do about half as much work tops.

Premium video previews set to 80s porno music sounds like a great idea.

That change in level design made Dark Souls almost unplayable for me. I fucking LOVED demon's souls. The hub design just added a very simple guidance and direction. It let you know what you could go. I spent so much time wandering around in Dark souls trying to figure out hwere I COULD go to fight that I got sick of it. I've beaten Demon's Souls maybe 40 times accross 3 region copies and I have yet to beat Dark souls. I keep going back but even with a fucking walkthrough I just can't figure out where the fuck to go.

Jeff has said that, despite what everyone is implying in this thread, the site is actually growing in popularity and subscription numbers are increasing.

To do what you propose would involve a massive amount of engineering work. Why pay for all that when you're already on an upward trajectory?

Seriously, people. It's ok to be less enthused about the site, but for whatever reason it seems like everyone is always convinced the site is dying despite the fact that every single time the real numbers of the site are discussed by those who know them they say that the site is doing better than ever.

I do wonder what someone not familure with GB thinks when they stumble across their youtube channel.

It must look like its just some skinny guy with funny hairs personal V Blog and not a well established gaming site with possibly the highest concentration of industry veterans of any gaming site with the backing of a mega corporation.

Also Jeff should just make a series about playing random games he finds in his garage. Like Bombcastica but on a regular weekly basis. Also maybe stop recording videos in his bedroom.

I did like the "home-y" feel of the Nexus. It's ripe for evolution. Firelink Shrine was kind of like that I suppose, but the thing that makes the Nexus work is that you're forced to go back to it over and over again so you see the changes, not to mention it's where most of the services resides.

However, I really don't like how the stages are named x-1, x-2, x-3, x-4 because it implies a linear progression and little backtracking (the only backtracking that I remember is Doran, Biorr, Yuria and Rydell). On top of that, by laying out all the levels, it becomes very hard to "hide" levels like Ash Lake and The Painted World, and I love that kind of shit.

It is the weekend 24/7 in this thread now.

After reading Alex's review I realized its going to be weird listening to them discuss Stick of Truth on bombin the am today after making such a fuss last week over Truth Bullets

Finally watched Friday's morning show cringing in anticipation for the section about danganronpa because I really like the game.

After hearing it wtf were you people crying about? Patrick if anything was over the top in his praise for the game. Yes truth bullets are dumb as shit. The reaction to his 95% praise on here is batshit crazy.

If something as simple as calling truth bullets dumb/silly sends you into such a hissy fit maybe stop playing video games and see a therapist about your rage issues. 100% serious.

Nexus > Firelink Shrine
Nexus > Firelink, but Lordran > Boletaria.

As far as single locations go, I like the Nexus more than Firelink Shrine, but the brilliant connected world design of Dark Souls is far superior to the separated levels in DS.

There's the passive aggressive funkystudent we all love to hate again. :lol

Anyone thinking the webcam videos (Bombin', Patrick, Encyclopedia Bombastica, Jar time) "diminish" GB's value and asking for more professional video production is missing the point of GB entirely.

And if you want to talk appearances, do consider the written portion of the site. Patrick's news reports and articles are so far beyond anything written on the site in terms of quality and research, it's not even funny. Though generally, I think that the written portion of their site isn't as important, the people are connecting to the site and its personalities because of the video content. They are a bunch of Let's Players with industry history that are not afraid to speak their mind - funny and off-the-cuff, which makes them more likable and interesting than the other "well established" gaming sites.

I don't believe they have a choice in that matter. Even if CBSi would let them all work off-site, I doubt they would pay for an office just for them when it has a perfectly good building where they can directly interact with engineering and management.
