Thanks man, but from watching this stream, it's a good bet the game is going to attract a certain... crowd, and Kojima has given me all the video game erotica I can handle this week.

It's really not though, the character selection screen has some potentially questionable poses I suppose but the men share similar undergarment poses :D In general it's a very charming experience without any of the Terra style nastiness.

Did they have a good time with the game? Wasn't able to catch it.

Kinda surprised at the ps4 vs XBone poll in the panel. Didn't think it would be so one sided hah.

Adam Boyes was there, and GB has been all over Adam Boyes lately so I'm not that surprised.

Also, it sounded like a lot of people were cheering for more than one group.

Worried about them now, all the passive aggressive comments about CBSi, meetings, not letting them hire more staff, comments about wanting to reduce bandwidth costs.

I know its a recurring joke about how Brads leaving and Giantbomb are going to shut down but it seems Jeff is increasingly frustrated about the situation.

My subs run out soon and I want to sub for another year but I am worried that someone gonna leave or they are going to get folded into Gamespot or something.

What does everyone else think?

I forgot how good this QL was
ibaVrV9EJNK3Ut.gif

Which one is this? I was meaning to watch it but I forgot the name of the game.

I think they were playing that up for humour.

Yeah but my point was that if they can't hire more staff and the bosses are moaning about bandwidth usage/costs then surely the next cost saving measure is either get rid of people or merge Gamespot and Giantbomb?

They won't even replace the equipment that got stolen.

I thought hey already mentioned the CBSi lawyers were involved with the venue therefore why would CBSi replace the equipment when they can sue the venue for the equipment.

Just to point out that if enough people go with "I am not going to subscribe again in case they get shut down" then it will become a self fulfilling prophecy.

Looking from the other side - someome needs to keep an eye on the budgets.

Bandwidth is expensive, that is why most sites are going youtube.

Equipment is expensive. I am sure they will get replacements when the insurance pays out but maybe take better care of your toys next time?

Staff is a major recurring cost. They were understaffed even before Patrick went off site and they lost Ryan. However, would adding more people actually increase traffic? So many people on here wonder what they do all day already. Could it be a case of working smarter with what you gave got?

The travel videos like Iceland are great - but in terms of traffic generated they are pretty poor value for money - both in losing key staff and actual expenses.. They let two of them go all the way to australia, not their fault that circumstances prevented it happening.

These are just devil's advocate views but as someone who works more in the corporate side - creative always wants more and it is usually more complicated than just handing out more money. It is why people love working for startups, until the money runs out and they collapse.

Got around to watching the PAX panel, probably one of their best. Jeff really killed it and John Drake was hilarious. Surprisingly, none of the questions even came close to being as cringworthy as that one girl who walked up to the stage begging for an Infinity starter pack. Apparently self respect is worth exactly $74.99.

Coincidently, with Jeff and Vinny mentioning the CBSi meetings and wanting new staff during the panel, according to Danny O'Dwyer's twitter, it seems there have been either some layoffs at Gamespot (or just people quitting at the same time). If you've been following Jeff and the guys for a long time, you'll probably know Homer ("wooo woooo") and Tyler. Both gone last week. But it also seems Danny is moving to SF permanently?

We will need a Bioforge reunion. Stat.

Well Danny had said in the past that it was always his intention to permanently transfer to the US offices, I imagine his untimely breakup probably accelerated things.

if gamespot loses Danny to GB they should just call it quits. Chris waters would be their last player.
I don't hate Gamespot, but you're absolutely right, they seriously lack on-screen natural talent. I doubt we'll see more than the odd Danny appearance here and there - GS needs him too much.

Man, remember this 2006 NES vid? It was crazy how many great personalities they had back then.

GS has a much bigger staff, especially if you include all that esport stuff, but you can kind of understand why it is hard for GB to get the budget for new guys if they are laying people off elseware.

Danny likes the GB guys but he seems to be a huge Gamespot fanboy - I think he said his goal has always been to work for Gamespot US. They recently gutted Gamespot UK which is likely a good reason to consider the move.

If he moves I am sure he would hang out with GB on and off camera though.

Hard to speculate about these things. At the same time, CBS has a Gamespot Editor position open on their employment website.

Real sad to hear about Tyler. He is a good dude.

I was able to buy a key from a shady website. Luckily it was legit and I was able to register it at the Square-Enix site.

We're on Ultros if you want to join us. The problem is Ultros is PACKED right now (GAF, GiantBomb, 4Chan, and ZAM are here too) and they're only letting people trickle in bit by bit. If you're patient enough to sit around and spam the character creation login until it lets you roll here, you're more than welcome to join. I suggest just rolling on a more empty server until things settle down in a week or two and they start offering server transfers.

Absolutely, which is why I said they might have just quit at the same time. But I remember there were some firings last month too. If I was a gambling man, I'd say those openings are for finding more on-screen talent. Gamespot seems to really be focusing on their video efforts (especially considering the upcoming re-design, with the GB-like homepage video player) and maybe realising their army of preview writers ain't cutting it? Hopefully they don't go full IGN and only hire dude bros and hot chicks.

It's why all the sky-is-falling-Giant-Bomb-is-doomed posts make me laugh. It's pretty obvious CBSi is trying to make GS more like GB - leaner, more video content and most staff on camera. If anything they're learning from GB, not trying to shut it down.

Yeah, i remember a bombcast where they had Giancarlo as a guest and he said the same thing. Bummer about homer though, he been there since forever.

Also, ffxiv people, I will find you guys when my client finishes downloading!

It is like when that Wednesday cross-over show failed. Even if the corporate overlords forced then to do it - Jeff said some things to suggest it was partly his own idea - when they shut it down, because it was not working, then the managers would have been clear it was gamespot staff that were making it awkward and were not used to being on camera. Ryan had to basically promt them at every oppertunity.

For what it costs them in the big scheme of things it is almost worth them keeping giantbomb alive so that they can steal the best design inovations and the features that do well and put those in to Gamsspot. For example, what are the bets that Gamespot fo a live launch day stream for the new consoles. Sure, they would have done it anyway, but I bet they learned from GBs kinect and WiiU coverage. Less stuffy and formal like old Gamespot would have done.

Isn't Jeff in a lead position at GameSpot now? Would make sense for them to change directions, since he said many times how he doesn't think that model will exist in the future.
