Giant Bomb Thread #5 - We love you, Ryan Davis

Ryan constantly compared it to Steam and he's been wrong each time he's done that. Every time he did that he did a disservice to Steam and to the people who think that he's accurate about this. He may be entitled to have a shit opinion but I'm also entitled to point it out like others are.

All you're doing is complaining about our complaints. This was/is the biggest piece of news this year. For them to do the coverage they did, and basically not talk about it when it was rumored for weeks, is pathetic.

They certainly were completely indifferent, your strawman notwithstanding. I don't want them to be impartial, I want them to have common sense and understand that the viewers who let them have this cool job are not fucking cool with what Microsoft was doing. Besides the whole face Jeff makes which basically says: "Uh yeah this certainly is fucked, but fuck it, doesn't affect me!"

To address your specific points.

Ryan was not the only person to compare it to steam. The policies had much in common. It is cool for you to disagree but there was enough similarity that you can't call him flat out wrong.

They did not ignore the DRM policies.
They did a commentry on the Xbox unvailing event.
They discussed it for over an hour on the podcast the following week.
They shot a 60 minute video when the MS clarified their policies.
They continued to discuss it on TNT and took questions from the chat.
They provided a platform for both sides during the E3 podcasts.

and these are just the ones I can remember off hand.

Also your comment that all the readers and fans were against MS policy is wrong. You were against them, most on gaf seemed to agree, I thought they were pretty shitty - but quite a number of people either didn't care or thought is was a good way to stop used games taking money away from devs and embrace the all digital future. Have a look at the GB forums. Plenty of topics saying MS should have stuck to their guns.

Damn. That was too much text to type on this crappy phone, please excuse any typos.

Patrick's interview with Marc Whitten went up on the dumptruck feed and it's 8 minutes of pure spin. lol

yeah I saw the transcript. The message is fine but all the PR speak is such a turn off. Try engaging with your potential customers like they are actual human beings. Not singling out MS, so many big corps are the same. Take a whole paragraph of waffle to confuse what should be a one line answer.

Yeah. MS still handling it totally wrong. They needed to come off as humbled and defeated a bit. Essentially suck up to the customers. We aren't fucking stupid.

After seeing what's on TNT and having not bought it yet while avoiding most news about it.

What?! Last of Us has a multiplayer mode?

Not even a slight against multiplayer in single player focused games (I enjoyed Uncharted and ME3 multiplayer), just odd that I could've sworn TLoU took the Bioshock Infinite route.

Agreed 100% !

Naughty Dog first announced it on a episode of Weekend Confirmed a couple weeks ago, don't think they really talked about it that much. Been avoiding as much as I could on it too so maybe I'm wrong.

So, what does the published literature have to say on the subject of Jeff and Brad's relationship? On a couple of occasions I've gotten the impression that they don't get along overly well. Specifically when it comes to a couple topics e.g. spoilers in podcasts. I remember one moment in last year's GOTY podcasts where they kind of sparred over that topic and there was a "fuck off" or something that sounded pretty real.

It's the reason Brad is leaving.

Brad hates Jeff so much he quit GameSpot just to take the attention away from him. Then he joined GB to slowly destroy it from within.

Actually, what if Brad is playing a really long con, infiltrating Giant Bomb, making it super popular, and then suddenly deleting everything and the backups, ruining the site forcing the GB/GS merger, and driving Jeff into a loony bin?

Remember when this thread was fun and about the dumb stuff GB were putting out?

This crap even makes me wistful for the "why is there no premium content" posts.

I bet Ryan is pocketing all the new server money for a sweet train ride. TRAINS TRAINS TRAINS!

I think Patrick is so fucking awesome.

He really seems to be a reporter. He really seems to WANT to be a reporter. He really seems to want to play games and not design them.

I will miss him terribly on the podcast, but I'm hoping his presence on the site will still be strong.

They are crazy if they think ND's first PS4 game isnt more Uncharted.

That IP is too big to drop. TLOU to me was ND getting the new IP bug out of there system before moving onto PS4.

Just equip covert training 2 and you won't show up even when crouch walking.

Listen mode in MP is pretty balanced I think. Cool down is mad slow too, though you can speed it up with a perk.

Where is he going?

Wtf! Brad and Jeff don't like each other? I am not coming into these threads anymore, too much drama.

but still, isn't the point to sneak around and hide?

In the context of this world, not necessarily. Post apocalyptic raiders don't strike me as the sam fisher type. Sneaking factors in either way, you're completely vulnerable while doing it, the cooldown is huge, and unless you already know the direction of the people you're looking to get or that there are even people there to begin with, you won't be blindly finding people.

I think The Last Of Us is going to be a huge franchise. The game reviewed incredibly and seems to be selling extremely well.

Naughty Dog has two mega hit franchises. I bet you one team is working on Uncharted 4, while the other is working on The Last of Us.

I'm hoping the next ND game is a new IP. They've shown Sony twice now that they can make a quality new IP that sells well.

You do know that sometimes developers might want to make a sequel, right? They're not all chomping at the bit to make a new franchise.
