I bought and happily played 7 hours of Euro Truck Simulator 2 over the weekend. What's worse is I took the time to add the NPR 24 hour feed to the radio and I've been listening to that the whole time (except during the brief times I listened to East Bound and Down after connecting a trailer to start a trip to pump me up) and someone suggested the idea of delivering loads to Prairie Home Companion in the OT and that sounded appealing to me. What have I become?

No shame in it.

Euro Truck Simulator 2 is not like the other German simulator games. It's genuinely, unironically great.

Right after the Quick Look, I mentioned that it looked shockingly polished and compelling. The best part is I'm getting some good use out of my wheel again and I'm actually using the gear stick. The game is super relaxing but backing your trailer into a tight parking spot on the first attempt is so satisfying.

The 2 games I bought and played the most after this last Steam sale where this and Kerbal Space Program. Both brought to my attention by hilarious Quick Looks.

Holy shit the first 15 of the NCAA quick look are great. They scroll through every team in the game and make fun of their logo while at the same time showcasing their complete lack of any sort of sports knowledge whatsoever. Love these dudes.

What was that song they were talking about in the NCAA quick look?

Their humming of it sounds really familiar to me, and it's driving me nuts.

Jeff totally needs to sell that sealed TurboGrafx 16 Magical Chase game he found in his collection.
An unsealed copy sold on eBay last week for $5766.
I wonder how much Jeff would get for his sealed copy? Big money, I'm sure.

holy fuck. people are nuts.

It's fun. Maybe my real calling in life is as a trucker. Getting paid to cruise down the highway listening to tunes sounds great.

They should do an SMT IV quick look.

I bet Patrick would do one but I doubt he has a 3DS capture kit.

So it's on Vinny and Jeff to do one for old times' sake.

While I think Patrick is a super talented dude, I'm glad Drew is part of the podcast. His persona just fits better with the whole 'not really about games' thing.

I've actually been surprised how much Drew talks about games since he's been on the podcast. I always assumed he played flight sims and that's it.

Drew plays unique and interesting sim games which is rad. He's also pretty great at describing them. Patrick just plays whatever the Idle Thumbs guys played the week before. It's a bit tedious.

Which makes me think of this recent exchange on Jeff's Tumblr:

tomknowst asked:With Rorie and Alex's movie podcast, and some of your best content being only tangentially related to video games (North Korea, Iceland travelogue), I was wondering if you guys have ever had any conversations about saying "fuck this!" to video games and turning Giant Bomb into a general pop culture comedy site? P.S I just wanted to say I really appreciate all of you pushing forward with the site. Thanks for everything <3

Jeff: The thought has crossed my mind, yes. When we first started the site we thought about kind of branching out or getting into territory that’s only loosely related to games, but we never really committed to that.

Makes me go hmmm.....

Do you guys think Patrick's move and Ryan's passing will cause any fundamental shift in the way GB produces content?

A few odd tweets and tumblr posts from Jeff and Patrick (along with almost everyone now having Twitch channels) makes me think something may be on the horizon?

Ryan's death means a fundamental shift in the way the produce content. Absolutely. They have to find a new dynamic. Even if it's not a conscious, deliberate set of changes, they'll still happen naturally.

Whatever they decide to do moving forward, I hope Jeff finds some kind of relief. He was obviously in the dumps, prior to Ryan's passing based on the constant jokes about how bad things were going. Now, of course, things have only become worse.

I would always like to see gaming to be the foundation but, for me personally, I wouldn't mind seeing them focusing even more on the less mainstream and older stuff rather than trying to keep up with the current industry stuff. Also, I'd like to see more digging deeper into some games, like Brad and Dota 2, instead of trying to touch on every major release. That's just me though. I think they strike a decent balance already.

Also, revisit Euro Truck Simulator 2.

Was leisure suit larry ever considered funny?

It was funny in the, "I can't believe this is in a videogame", type of funny when sexual humor was extremely rare in games.

I guess I'm the only one that thinks that a SMTIV quick look is a pretty bad idea. I don't see that as the kind of game that will quick look well, nor do I see it as the kind of game that any of them would enjoy that much.

My pessimism is actually rooted in this. See, I think Jeff and Vinny liked Persona 4, not Shin Megami Tensei in general. They liked the characters and world of P4 more than the mechanics and the like. Remove that, and they'll just mostly be bored.

I also think they're still trying to shake the reputation of being the "Atlus" site.

Loading up LSL for the first time and noticing the mouse cursor was a condom that unrolled was one of the most hilarious things as a kid.

Also that Lula game. Me and my friends just could not believe they made video games that dirty.

Yeah, it don't think it would go that great. I feel like it would just show like "that game where you die instantly because you didn't get the first hit" (which may or may not be accurate).

I dunno about them being labeled as an "Atlus site" really, but I agree with everything else. The Persona games are very character driven and that's actually why I like them a lot more than the mainline series myself.

Mainline SMT games are more of a straight forward, kick you in the ass, grind/fusion-fest JRPG with lots of religious overtones thrown in for good measure. While I still like these games, I have trouble seeing them jumping on board for this one. Maybe if Dave were still around...

Why the fuck did they do a QL if they dont care about stuff.

Uhh... What?
