And those reasons are? Still asking. Is this still just, "Because it's a convenient thing to do?"

I'm well aware that CNet did some super shady shit by firing (Edit: Not firing, they left after the dispute) that person and changing the voting, but that has nothing to do with this conversation.

I bring it up because we're collectively at an intersection between self interest (convenience) and professional interest (making money) as companies like CBS try to find ways to keep up the revenue of their properties while editorial is endorsing products that circumvent them, or dipping into very gray areas when it comes to using things like emulators to generate content while also speaking out against people who use Adblock. I don't think going full on Lars Ulrich and shaming a large portion the audience by equating their use of Adblock to theft is the right approach. Catching more flies w/ honey rather than vinegar, etc.

I remember reading up on the Hopper story and the reason (at least the reason given) for why a CBS property couldn't endorse the hopper is because they were currently in a law suit with the Hopper and to have a CBS subsidiary showing favorable preference for the product would have completely destroyed their case.

Some of those details are probably a bit off, but the general idea of "It couldn't win 'best of show' because CBS was in a legal dispute with them" are certain to what I had read/listened to.

You're correct. The lawsuit is over whether or not the Hopper violates the copyrights and retransmission agreements between Dish and the networks.

I'm not defending Patrick's general actions, or saying some of them are or are not ok. I'm not saying ads are a good way to derive income for a website (I think Patrick and Alex said as much themselves). I'm only saying that I think there's merit to comparing piracy to using adblock.

I really need to find better things to do with my Sunday afternoons

You know, I thought I might have mixed some stuff up (my memory isn't what it used to be), so I went back to check and you're right, I did get it completely wrong.
Looks like one of those games you can swap out was a cart with one hundred AND ONE games on it. That's not 100 at all. Sorry about that.

I mean, I don't really mind, it sounds like a fun thing, it was just weird hearing so much about it on a website about video games.
I'm sorry then, I really can't remember any of this.

I cannot understand how people play Mario and Rayman games without holding the run button all the time.

IT'S THE ONLY WAY TO PLAY.

Especially for Rayman. I remember playing it normally on Vita for the first couple levels and as soon as I started using the run button I never let go the rest of the game.

oh man if spooky spoops does old console games he needs to do OG PS2 Siren. that game was ridiculous.

that would warrant a solo endurance run IMHO. playing that at night alone, in the dark, would be a terrifying experience

Just getting around to watching the PAX panel. Was a good time.

Did that dude seriously ask if they would do any more TANG? what the fuck was he thinking asking that? Super stupid. Super disrespectful. Way to make it awkward for everyone.

Yep, it's incredible how out of touch you'd have to be to ask a question like that, almost fell out of my chair when that dude asked that shit.

I agree it was in poor taste and the answer was obvious but it was over quick enough. Jeff said no and they moved on. What really made it awkward was Brad's sharp intake of breath. Totally understandable but it was over so quick I didn't get weirded out by it.

Actually I think the Q&A session was one of the best they've had. Patrick taking over for that first questioners rambling was perfect.
