Thanks a lot for these tutorials!

Whipped this one out, hope it's OK. Would work great as Banned GIF, but I don't have Photoshop with me at the moment and I'm rusty with it anyway.

Is there a better way to add text without having to add it to each individual frame?

Using what I've learned from this thread, I give you a potential bail out/disgust GIF. Cut down on the colors to make it a smaller file.

Youtube to .GIF Tutorial using Photoshop CS5

First, before I start, this is ONLY for CS5 (works with CS4 also folks). I don't use any other version so I'm not sure if this will work with CS3/CS4/etc. Also, I've tried using different extensions for downloading videos, but.. I've found that keepvid.com has given me the best results in terms of download speed and quality of the videos.

Step 1 - Downloading the Youtube Video

-Visit www.KeepVid.com and download the video of your choice.
-For this example, I'll be using this (click on this) video, specifically the part at 0:27-0:28 of Dave dancing. Quick and simple.
-You'll be given a list of downloads when you click the "Download" button after pasting the Youtube URL. In this case, I'll download the one that says "›› Download MP4 ‹‹ - 720p"

Step 2 - Opening the Video in Photoshop

-Open Photoshop and then click "File" and then navigate to "Import" and then click "Video Frames to Layers"
-Navigate to the video and open it (MP4's are the best to use, at least from my experience) (in CS4 you will have to type in "*" and press enter in the file name window to display all files since you can't select all files in type selection and mp4s won't show up on the list)
Fixed and yeah, that's the method I use in Photoshop CS4. It's a pain adding layers to Gifs and wouldn't mind following a guide for that.

Alright, I'll change it! Thanks :) Also, I thought you only needed to enter * for gifs? If you're not using File -> Open, that is.

What else can you open? I haven't used * since switching to CS5.

Is there a better way to add text without having to add it to each individual frame?[/QUOTE]

I used uLead .gif animator, and I can just copy the text box and paste to each frame to make sure it stays in the same spot. Just spam ctrl+v can paste onto dozens of frames in no time.

For ones with lots of text.

I count the frames from where I want to start, and plan on 2 or 3 frames per word. Put the full test at the end, then copy it back a few frames, delete a word, copy that box, copy back a few frames, delete next word, etc. I can still edit the individual text box once it's been cut and pasted.

Is there a quick way for me to add an image overlayed on top of multiple JPEG frames I exported into a folder? I don't want to photoshop into 100 frames one by one D:

EDIT: Nvm discovered and learned batch processing.

Now in Jasc, how do I increase the time between frames to make up for culling?

EDIT2: Found out, nvm :D

you can actually do it in Animation Shop, but I'd recommend other programs to do lots of text.

In animation shop
Create a transparent image
Use the text tool to type whatever you want
Select the image, copy (CTRL+C), paste after current frame (Shift+CTRL+L) how many frames you want the text to be
Select all text images (CTRL+A), drag onto animation frames you want.

In uLead, you simply pick a frame and enter the text with the text icon like any photo editor. I also add a neon effect to distinguish the text more. But once done I can copy the text box and just paste it onto other frames, in the same position.

Thank you for this guide. :)

Um does the animation program have a mac flavor?
I tried running it through WINE but I wasn't able to get it to work... I know Pixen can output animated gifs, but its animation features are pretty basic...

Step 2. Cut out the portion of video you want to keep (Use red A/B markers to select what you wish to not keep, then hit delete)

Hmm...

I'm still a bit unsure how this works.

Do I press A then let the video play the parts I want, pause and then press B? Or is it the opposite?

Thanks.

Mac user here as well here wondering if there's other free software available. I've been using a VLC media player and Gimp to make .gifs, but I feel like there's a much easier and more efficient way to make them. :/

Just uploaded a gif from this method. Much better and easier than what I used to do with photoshop so thanks for the help!
