Gigantic Open Beta Thread: It's not really a MOBA

Hmmm...

This was on an "enemies" spawn and the build menu kept this faded status.
Any possibility to build on that spot?

I honestly havent played yet in the open beta, so idk if that is true, but i heard that you cant summon creatures on the enemy side anymore

I read that too yesterday but on the snow map / in Clash (I think) it's possible to summon on enemy platforms

You should play it!

10 levels is fine in theory, but if a match goes on for longer, you're kind of stuck at progression

I actually totally misunderstood what you meant there. Thought you meant hero mastery levels. In-game levels, I think 10 is pretty solid, generally most games will have you leveling up before the clash, then most players hit 10 towards the beginning of the clash, and focus on the strategy and combat for the rest of the game.

Just got my first game in in a very long time. Played Xenobia one of my old favorites and she still feels very good to play. Played her more as a debuffer than damage dealer haha

Okay, got 2 friends on board.

We have no clue why Clash even exists, the only thing that changes is the second passive being activated.
When does Clash start - no idea... :D
When can we buff our Creatures - no clue... :D
Does a Gigant get damaged with every attack from our Giant even when we do not attack?

And some more stuff I can't think of.

And some more stuff I can't think of.

1) Clash exists to quicken and intensify the pace of the match, so it doesn't go on forever. (May or may not work as intended)

2) Look at the very top of the screen, dead center. That little bar of diamonds is the Clash round meter. It fills up after every attack/defense phase, and when 6 (?) phases are complete, Clash begins

3) You can buff your creatures when you get focus points. Look at the ability bar, at the center icon for your ultimate. The number in there is how many focus points you've built up. Spend focus points to upgrade creatures. Get focus points by attacking enemy creatures and players.

4) The Guardian takes damage from being hit by the opposing Guardian, unless--during the attack prep phase (when it's heading over) your team managed to fill up the blue armor bar that replaces the yellow Power meter. You fill it up by killing players and killing creatures. If you manage to fill it up in time (before the Attack prep phase is over), all damage from the enemy Guardian is mitigated, and the enemy team will be forced to take that damage by rushing up themselves.

Anything else?

Clash is there to be the "endgame". The smaller map encourages more teamfights.

The Clash has two triggers: when a Guardian get wounded twice, or after the fifth time a Guardian rampages(aka when a Guardian attacks the enemy Guardian); whichever comes first.

Regarding "buffing" your creatures, you can buff/upgrade your creatures by using focus points. These focus points are how you use your ultimate abilities, and you gain focus points by dealing damage, I think. So, do you use your focus to upgrade your creature, or to use your character's ultimate ability?

Also, when a Guardian attacks the enemy Guardian, it does a set amount of damage to the enemy Guardian's lifebar. This "set amount" of damage can cause a wound on the first two lifebars, but it will never deplete the Guardian's final lifebar; players must always deliver the final killing blow to an enemy guardian.

EDIT: Beaten

This is incorrect.

An auto-wound is when your Guardian is low enough that an attacking Guardian will deal the final blow to that wound regardless of enemy players approaching yours. This is why building shield and keeping pace with your opponents between rampages is so important.

Thank you for your answers.

It really helped a lot understanding some mechanics.

I get why Clash exists, but I wish it was... like people said before... more commited or with building disabled.

I'm talking about the guardian's final lifebar. As in, it's third lifebar. While your Guardian can "auto-wound" the enemy Guardian if the first two life-bars are low enough, players must always deliver the final blow to end the game. That's how it was in the closed beta, and I have yet to see that not be the case now.

Is it possible for you to change the 3D settings globally? per https://gearsofwar.com/en-us/games/ultimate-edition/pc/help (another windows store app):
Open the NVIDIA Control Panel
Select Manage 3D Settings
Select High-Performance NVIDIA processor in the ‘Preferred graphics processor’ menu
Select Apply

In general getting 3rd party stuff to play with Windows Store Apps is.. kinda rough. a quick google didn't yield anything specifically helpful about getting the nvidia control panel to recognize individual apps.

Thx i was trying to avoid turning it on globally but ill prob try it out to play the game a bit

For our last round after 3h I tried Tyto and man...
I couldn't get into him. I got utterly destroyed after several seconds and couldnt finish anyone wandering off :(

I was trying out using Knossos charge with the extra hit instead of the knock up. You really surprise people with it. Knossos is already scary early game but that little extra burst puts him over. I ended up getting my first pentakill with him by just being a Knossos and slapping a team til they all died.

You really miss that knock up late game though.

I end up playing a lot of Knossos and Margrave since other people don't seem to want to. I don't know why. They're a ton of fun. Everybody calls assassins OP but not enough people pick counters to them. Xenobia is really good counter to assassins too, but a lot of people seem to have a hard time figuring her.

Sorry, but bumping my question:

Sometimes? But that's to be expected early on as it is secondary to a lack of familiarity. As far as I can tell, the abilities I've seen are distinct enough to be clear what's hitting you and from what direction (once you know what everything looks like).

I would not expect to have fully clarity of what's going on starting out, like any MOBA or quasi-MOBA.

It's not visual shit and overload like a Battleborn.

Much appreciated. I used to play League of Legends quite a bit, and recently dabbled in Paragon. I think I'll download and give this a try.

Just finished the tutorial, and did some practice. Loving the feel of this game so far. Might plug in a controller to my PC and see if it controls pretty good with it. I feel a little overwhelmed with all of the skill tree choices. I feel like I'm overthinking, but I'm afraid I'm going to make a crappy upgrade and screw myself. I'll catch on though. Hopefully.

Yeah skill trees are a lot to take in at first. During matches you'll have like no time to read through them. None of them as useless but they can completely change the way your abilities work. It's worth going into practice and figuring out what you like.

It's great on a controller, I use a gamepad on PC now after playing it on my Xbox.

Looks like there's some connectivity issues right now. I've seen a few people on the subreddit comment on it, and I'm experiencing it myself.

Anyone else seeing this to corroborate?

Had a game on Sanctum Falls last night that was epic. It was basically one massively long team-fight, as both sides understood the game and their characters. It was absolutely glorious, and noticeably, the Clash change wasn't problematic: if a creature was killed, the attempted resummon became a focus point, and thus the match was absolutely mad, and quite tactical with distractions to try and put up a summon elsewhere.

Yes, multiple people, including myself, can confirm there's some login issues right now.

What are your favorite heroes right now?

Mine are still Uncle Sven and Xenobia haha

Margrave and Xenobia are currently my favorite heroes to play. I will say that I do like a LOT of these heroes, but I've only played a few.

I really want to learn how to play Vadasi, Beckett and Aisling.

I really shine with Voden he's my most played.

Second one is Knossos.

I really need to try more heroes but I have so much fun with both of them... :x

How do you play Xenobia? I like to play her more as a debuffer.
I am pretty awful with Vadasi, Beckett and Aisling haha. I do want to learn how to play Aisling tho.

Haha well there is enough time to play them all. How do you like to play Voden?

What do you mean?

When I play him I really try to be a off-healer or full healer if we don't have anyone.
So I roam around, try to rescue people etc.
All of that while letting my decoy shooting and distracting while I'm standing in my poison and hit those sweet crits <3

That's exactly what i meant haha. Was wondering what playstyle you have with Voden haha

Just started playing this today. It's fun, but is getting wrecked by the lightning chick a key feature? Because damn.

I can't fight or run from her.

I haven't tried to play him differently really, how do you play him?
Is there a max dmg option?

I guess it depends on who you play.
As Voden I just break LOS, place my decoy and snipe her. She's super squishy :D

What I can't stand is that little grumpy old witch Griselwhatever. I have no idea what to do against that Bitchy :(

There should be a max damage option haha. But i haven't really caught up with all the changes since last time i played it. So i can't really tell you tbh.

I play voden more supportive as well

I pretty much play her as a debuffer/nuker. A lot of her talents enhance her abilities if the enemy is suffering from a debuff, so she's kind of an effective nuker. Here are the talents I usually pick*: http://builder.ggunleashed.com/Xenobia/bdfggjiceb

*I don't currently have an order to picking the talents, those are just the talents I pick. At level 5, I get the "Insult and Injury" specialization skill. It makes the Words of Spite debuff last 5 seconds total, and during the Clash, your cooldowns get reset if one of your debuffed enemies dies.

Yea i play her almost the same way, i pick the Bleeding on RMB (Words of Spite) instead of the RR upgrade. So i pick LR there

Do you need gold to play this? I had membership during early betas but haven't renewed it. It was fun I thought and I'm thinking of revisiting it.

I just tried this yesterday and had a blast. A few game crashes and kick backs aside, this was very enjoyable. One minor complaint so far.

I posted this on their forums and hopefully they look at it. Ability to map buttons on xbox one, I didn't see.

Is there a way to map the back button on the controller to another button in game? I have an elite controller and there is no option in the controller setting for the elite to map the back button, so I was hoping to be able to map the back button to say Y. Scoreboard should be on the back button and upgrade should be on Y. It would make things a lot easier and we wouldn't have to stop moving or remove our thumbs off for long.

I don't know why they have Upgrade mapped to the back button, instead of a face button. They could have easily made the scoreboard be the back button like every game out there. Maybe I'm not looking at the right place but is there any way to change the set controls?

Edit: had the Y and Back messed up lol

Not for controllers right now, no. Maybe in a future update we'll see it, but as of right now, there's nothing available for that.

You could use the system-level button mapping utility in console settings. If you're playing on PC, though, I have no idea.

Ohhh i'll try that later tonight! Thanks!

I'm not at home, so I can't test this, but if you're using an Xbox One controller on PC, I think you might be able to remap buttons with the Xbox Accessories app. Link to the app

From the AMA:
Our plan is to release new content on a pretty regular cadence. Our goal for heroes is to release a new one every 6 weeks. Obviously, we are bound to Microsoft's cert process so it isn't an exact science but that is the plan. And, starting in January we plan on releasing new content every week (hero skins, weapon skins, creatures, fortune cards, and a few other secrets we have cooked up for later in 2017). Be on the lookout for new content most Thursdays starting in January!

Damn, new content weekly is pretty ambitious.
