God of War Collection coming to PSN

I know, that's why it would need a new executable...

Everyone knows what an executable is, right?

It's a little more complicated than just recompiling existing code.

Hopefully people will buy this in droves. I bought the reatail release but would much prefer all future classics to be downloadable and this is an obvious toe in the water for Sony.

Hopefully they don't stop their testing with this because I was more than happy to get GoW Collection day one on Blu-ray but I would buy Sly Collection off PSN in a heartbeat and I'd suck a million colossi dicks for ICO/SotC Collection on PSN.

And jesus fuck, how long has it been since Sony dropped BC? Get the hell over it. :lol

No extras? Wtf? Better buy an used retail copy, cheaper and with more content.

You'd be surprised how many people don't care about the behind the scenes stuff. Plus, I do love DD more than discs (at least, for PC games. Consoles I could care less, really)

I'm one of those people for games, but for movies it tends to be interesting. Gaming development and what they did for some art piece in games is usually a huge yawn.

How much more less could you care?

Your ignorance is amazing.

These HD remakes are proper port jobs, they aren't emulated at all. They are fundamentally different from the original PS2 code, but of course certain things like character models and textures are generic files common to both versions. Xbox 360 is different because they create different emulation profiles for various games. So they certainly aren't talking natively to the 360 hardware.

There IS a technical reason why PS2 disc based games cannot run on current PS3's and that is because the PS2 GPU is very hard to emulate on the PS3.
It wasn't so hard 4 years ago.

The actual PS2 chipset was on the 20/60 GB PS3s, hurr
Thanks for the reminder. But weren't the partial BC models emulated? They still had the sound chip in there, unless I'm mistaken, but the video emulation was pretty good.

Also that hurr durr shit has got to stop. It's like calling someone a retard, which, in my personal opinion, ought to be banned if it isn't already.

The original PS3's had the CPU and the GPU. The second generation only had one of those (never can remember which).

Well, it's official. Sony's charging for BC. My apologies to everyone that called it years ago; even though there's zero technical reason why these games can't read the texture and video assets off the original disc, we're getting screwed.

I want to marry you and have Einstein babies

Too bad people weren't willing to buy PS3's 4 years ago.

Every person still bitching about BC in 2010 is quite likely to be part of the "OMG $599 HURR PS3 AM FAIL" group of 2006.

The 60/20GB BC models had the PS2's Emotion Engine CPU and GSX GPU. The 80GB BC models still had the GSX on board but emulated the Emotion Engine, and it wasn't perfect emulation.

I agree, it's not so bad for the games with upgraded textures. I'd mention that MS offered upgraded textures for Halo BC on the 360 for free, but... it's Halo. Anything to sweeten the deal for the 360's launch.

God you're a fucking idiot. Just look at the comparison videos between GOW 1/2 and GOW Collection. I have GOW 1 for ps2 (and a ps3 with BC) and I bought the collection and the collection plays so much better, has better gfx and better audio. It's not even the same lol.

Did these games require an HDD install in Blu-Ray form? I do prefer DD but I only have 11GB left on my 250GB drive.

No. The collection didn't.

However, the cutscenes look like ASS and the gameplay is boring. :/ I kinda wish I listened to someone that said to get Ass Creed 2 over it when Gamestop did a a buy two get one sale this may. :/

I still haven't gotten out of Athen's in GoW1. It just doesn't entertain me like Ninja Gaiden, Dante's Inferno, and Devil May Cry did. :/

The 80GB MGS4-bundle PS3 had the Graphics Synthesizer but the EE was emulated.
EDIT: beated

The Euro 80gigs had the emotion engine emulated, which was pretty spotty IIRC.

Some of the cut scenes they just brought over from the original, but others were redone in 1080p. On the retail release, you could watch all the HD cut scenes, it was glorious.

Well yeah, would have be wiser just release a BC free PS3 and release a PS2 USB drive for 100$ (same price as a PS2) with upscalling and everything at launch. That way you have a PS3 and those who wants BC, pay the 100$ and you sell your console 100$ cheaper.

Sony does add trophies to the game. Sony actually does a direct port of the games from PS2 to PS3, then has them up-scaled and touched up for PS3.

It costs extra money to include the GS and causes the PS3 to have a more complicated circuit board design. That increases the cost. Since people wanted a cheaper PS3, that's why anything that could be cut was.

Both games will run you a 12GB download... good luck with that.

Zoe said:
Even when they had 100% hardware emulation, many games were buggy.

It was never 100%, I'd say more like 99.7%.

Some games still had issues and others didn't work at all (Star Ocean 3 or something I forget).

Not to mention the input lag for fighting and rhythm games.

If they contain less content than the disc release, will they cost less?

Wait till the store publishes to find out.

Don't get your hopes up

Of the collection? :lol

No the normal bonus stuff the games came with initially(second disk God of War II came with and whatnot).
