Everyone knows what an executable is, right?

I believe they are testing the market with this.Tmac said:No extras? Wtf? Better buy an used retail copy, cheaper and with more content.

These HD remakes are proper port jobs, they aren't emulated at all. They are fundamentally different from the original PS2 code, but of course certain things like character models and textures are generic files common to both versions. Xbox 360 is different because they create different emulation profiles for various games. So they certainly aren't talking natively to the 360 hardware.androvsky said:I know, that's why it would need a new executable...

It wasn't so hard 4 years ago.Galvanise_ said:There IS a technical reason why PS2 disc based games cannot run on current PS3's and that is because the PS2 GPU is very hard to emulate on the PS3.

The actual PS2 chipset was on the 20/60 GB PS3s, hurrCarlisle said:It wasn't so hard 4 years ago.
Wasn't that just partial emulation with PS2 hardware included in the PS3? If that's what you're referring to, anyway.Carlisle said:It wasn't so hard 4 years ago.

Thanks for the reminder. But weren't the partial BC models emulated? They still had the sound chip in there, unless I'm mistaken, but the video emulation was pretty good.DonMigs85 said:The actual PS2 chipset was on the 20/60 GB PS3s, hurr

androvsky said:Well, it's official. Sony's charging for BC. My apologies to everyone that called it years ago; even though there's zero technical reason why these games can't read the texture and video assets off the original disc, we're getting screwed.
Zoe said:Too bad people weren't willing to buy PS3's 4 years ago.

androvsky said:I agree, it's not so bad for the games with upgraded textures. I'd mention that MS offered upgraded textures for Halo BC on the 360 for free, but... it's Halo. Anything to sweeten the deal for the 360's launch.
DonMigs85 said:Did these games require an HDD install in Blu-Ray form? I do prefer DD but I only have 11GB left on my 250GB drive.
The 80GB MGS4-bundle PS3 had the Graphics Synthesizer but the EE was emulated.Zoe said:The original PS3's had the CPU and the GPU. The second generation only had one of those (never can remember which).

However, the cutscenes look like ASS and the gameplay is boring. :/ I kinda wish I listened to someone that said to get Ass Creed 2 over it when Gamestop did a a buy two get one sale this may. :/
I still haven't gotten out of Athen's in GoW1. It just doesn't entertain me like Ninja Gaiden, Dante's Inferno, and Devil May Cry did. :/
Well yeah, would have be wiser just release a BC free PS3 and release a PS2 USB drive for 100$ (same price as a PS2) with upscalling and everything at launch. That way you have a PS3 and those who wants BC, pay the 100$ and you sell your console 100$ cheaper.Pai Pai Master said:Every person still bitching about BC in 2010 is quite likely to be part of the "OMG $599 HURR PS3 AM FAIL" group of 2006.
Sony does add trophies to the game. Sony actually does a direct port of the games from PS2 to PS3, then has them up-scaled and touched up for PS3.androvsky said:I know, that's why it would need a new executable...

It costs extra money to include the GS and causes the PS3 to have a more complicated circuit board design. That increases the cost. Since people wanted a cheaper PS3, that's why anything that could be cut was.Carlisle said:It wasn't so hard 4 years ago.
Both games will run you a 12GB download... good luck with that.DonMigs85 said:Did these games require an HDD install in Blu-Ray form? I do prefer DD but I only have 11GB left on my 250GB drive.
