God of War running on Xbox Series X using RetroArch

All I have are disc games. It'd be a shame if MS disables this feature. That one advantage Series S and X has over the 5.

The dev mode app, and retroarch running on it, has been around since the Xbox One - only now do the consoles have enough CPU power to emulate at higher resolution multipliers.

Absolutely no chance they disable the feature, especially as they charge $20 for the app.

Wow it took 19 years for it to happen but Xbox finally has a good game to play.

This you?

I want an x because of it. Been itching for some old 360 games. Been awhile since I played blue dragon. Loved that game.

That really is amazing. So what kind of improvements can you make to emulate games? Do the output at a higher resolution and FPS than release? AA applied maybe?

Don't get me wrong its just icing on the cake. And LOL at the salty Sony fanboys, Sony don't care enough to support these games so no point getting mad or downplaying that people want to play older catalogue games.

You know a good game is a good game no matter how old is it, also why do you assume that having an Xbox means that people don't own a PlayStation too? Ok I know the answer...

You can render them natively at much higher resolutions, even 4K, you can add filters like making it look like you're playing on a CRT, you can add AA/AF, and some will let you add all sorts of different effects to games.

Xbots are so sad that the only thing they look for is running Sony games on their console.

Actually having the ability to use retroarch is huge (for someone like me), I use a raspberry pi currently, but if I could have all my retro games on my next gen console, thats a massive win tbh

Not just sony games you'll be able to play

Sure some don't care about that, but if u can do this on the series S, the entry cost point is pretty great, to have an all in one next gen and retro console

(Granted the trolls are funny regardless)

It was meant as a joke. But it's an interesting phenomena when a product is so bad you need to rely on emulating your competitors games.

Not really "relying" on it tho are they lol, I doubt it was even thought about, surprised its even allowed, its almost like a jail broke console

But yeh, continue to joke dude, I'm all for it. Console wars are funny regardless of what side you plant your flag

What kind of garbage misinformed take is this? It's not Microsoft relying on emulated games, they've had dev mode enabled since the XB1 so that 3rd party developers can test and build apps for their ecosystem.

Imagine being that salty about a console you don't even own.

Thanks. And my guess here is that if this gets too big, they may be slapped with some lawsuits. Not that I care, I like my emulators as well.

yeah indeed i buy 500+$ machines to play some old ass PS2 games from 2001.
True value !

Its not just ps2 games, literally every game up to the ps2, so having almost every game ever made (if u can roms of course)

Granted a raspberry pi is only like ÂŁ40

I meant that they would probably remove the 'all consoles are dev kits' feature, not the disc based old games support, I see no reason to remove disc once it's part of the ecosystem.

Finally some good games to play on an Xbox!

Finally the Xbox Series X has great Software to offer.
At least it has a decent exclusive to play now
Wow...Xbox owners so starved of content they are having to go back to old Playstation classics.

Imagine.

Imagine being part of a community that includes these dudes.

That's how it's done? Interesting. I didn't think they'd allow this kind of thing.
Pretty cool.

Yeah, basically MS introduced the dev mode app as a security measure. People were jail breaking Xbox to play emulators on it, which would lead to piracy and hacking, so instead MS decided to introduce an environment where things like emulation could take place to dissuade users from going further.

Retroarch has been running on the platform since OG Xbox One, but honestly the Jaguar core CPU made it a chore and there were far better, and cheaper, ways of emulating old games. The Zen 2s are pretty flawless though, even at 4x or 8x resolution multipliers on games like Mario Galaxy or Skies of Arcadia. I still wouldn't buy a console for it, but it's nice to have.

Is that humor as well ? Might start thinking about warning people beforehand, just in case.

Lifes to short to take shit so seriously. If you read some of my other comments I was actually saying retroarch is a decent feature. But I guess that don't fit ya agenda hun xx

For those interested in emulation, the God of War HDCollection (and origins collection) run flawlessly on RPCS3, best way to play those games.
How about The Last of Us or God of War 3? I didn't find them in the compatibility list. I saw the Uncharted games there listed as having issues.

In this thread, people. Are SERIOUSLY trying to minimize/ridcule a broader ability of a competitors system that they don't "like" and yet the platform they support doesn't do it.

Lmfao, 2020 logic.

Bonus:

-- Also! JUST because such a capability is being demo'ed off it means "xBoTs aRe tHirsThinG for PZ g4m3Z!!?!"

HUR HUR HUR

The less options the better! Give me less for my money!! HUR HUR HUR! *DERP* MORE IZ BAD GUSY'S!111! I'm my very OWN worst enemy and anti-consumer advocate.
