God of War, Shadow of the Colossus

Dear Ico avatar: The framerate was terrible. Framerate is not a 'minor' thing. I am sorry you feel that something so significant is INSIGNIFICANT. I wish i could live in magical fairy land as well, but i live in reality. I still appreciate Ueda's games. The game gently massaged my cock, but unfortunately the framerate stabbed it at the same time. Again please argue with the facts by e-mailing FumitoUeda@frameratewasterrible.com.

Dear Pompous Internet Elitist,
I'm sorry you are so focused on one aspect that it can ruin an entire game for you. It's a shame that you can't look past something that IS minor and move on. The framerate only drops severly in the temple for me and in very rare instances during combat. Perhaps my experience differed from yours.

Dear Newly Angered Ico Avatar,

I am sorry about your apparent reading comprehension issues as well. But for the sake of clarification, it is important that you read the entire thread - although the framerate issue is undeniably significant and framerate in general is an extremely vital aspect of any game, i did not say it ruined the entire game for me. I said Shadow of the Colossus is a great game. Unfortunately, it is still hampered by that issue. Also, if you could please send me your super PS2 or the address of the magic Wal-Mart you got it from I would gladly accept it. Consider it a service from e-friend to e-friend!

P.S. Thanks man, you ruined this format. It's lame now. I won't be using it in the future thanks to you.

God of War is AWESOME. Its my favorite game of the generation. If your in to those boring, artsy japanese games with 2nd rate gameplay, shitty controlls/camera, and can deal with the serious technical issues get SOTC.

Well I'm glad it didn't ruin your experience, but I'm dissapointed you feel the need to exaggerate. Also, you can shut the hell up about my avatar. That would be fantastic. I like Ueada's games but I'm not a fanboy enough to ignore a serious problem, and in my opinion the framerate was not a serious problem. Anyway, I'm sorry if I disturbed you on your throne of superiorty. :)

There's no exaggeration, that's the point. If you didn't think it was a 'serious problem' or a very real pervasive issue the entire game, I can only conclude a.) you're super UN-sensitive to the issue of framerate or b.) you have a slight bias toward this specific title ;)

As damn well you should be!

you have got to be kidding me. If there's ONE thing I can say that God of War has above the rest of the pack it's the art design. WALKING ACROSS THAT HUGE ASS SWORD MAN. What is wrong with you? Bland art?

That sword was one of the vistas I was talking about. But come on, Kratos looks like a bald, pasty cousin of Sam Fisher. All the creature designs are pretty simple, too. Basically, I think the look isn't too bad, but it's far too clean for a bloody free-for-all in ancient Greece. It's a bit like Ninja Gaiden; technically brilliant with some nice areas but all the characters look like steroid-ripped plastic dolls that pop right out of their hermetically sealed world. It's not as bad as I made out, but I sincerely don't get all the slavering over the visuals design-wise.

Amir0x said:
there's a reason he's pasty

also, you really lost me with the complaints about the monster design

They look like action figures. With tits. And yes, I know, but being pasty isn't the problem. It's the fact his face is about as well designed as Sam Fisher's. Hence the comparison.

I got the impression you don't even like that game. :-\ Aren't you a much bigger fan of MGS2?

I most definately am a bigger fan of MGS2, and consider 3 somewhat of a step backwards. I just said 3 because its still better than 95% of titles, and its from the same era as GoW and SotC.

Both. Trade in your sister/soul to get them both.

SotC is...well...it should be illegal to not play that game.

And God of War oozes style and is fun.

Both games were a little overhyped IMO but Colossus gets stronger near the end while God of War consistently goes downhill. I was initially very impressed with the GoW enemies but truthfully there's only about 8 of them who get modified once in a while for superficial freshness. Pandora's Temple is also too long and takes up about 2/3 of the game. It does have an epic adventure feel but that doesn't mean you won't get bored with it. SotC has its problems but overall is a much more unique experience and a much more memorable one at that.

Buy God of War (it's $20) and rent SotC. Or just wait until SotC is cheaper as well. All games go down in price, no reason to rush out and buy it now.

Ok, I'm playing it... the gameplay and layout is pretty weird, but I'm getting used to it.

Jumping onto the damn colossus itself is difficult, once I get up the leg a little bit, I always loose too much strength and fall off. I'm sure I'll get the hang of it shortly.

SOTC framerate = exaggeration
Actually, it is pretty bad.

man i wish i could play with your action figures

alt: they make action figures of anything now-a-days!

Nothing in God of War comes close to the sense of wonder
I felt when I realized I had to jump on top of the colossus flying through the air and kill it as it soared.
Amazing.

Here's the thing:

God of War is the best 3D action game I have ever played, but it will be surpassed pretty soon. Heavenly Sword? God of War II? I don't know, but it won't be the standard for much longer. If you are going to play GoW, you should play it now while it's still relevant.

SotC may never be surpassed.

dont ruin the game for him, christ. he's just starting! that's like a spoiler.

Eh... it's a decent game, but not what I was expecting based on the hype. I'm gonna give SotC a few days. If I don't like it, I may sell it.

I know, Mifune. I know :|

If I sell it, I might skip out on GoW and get another type of game (KH2 maybe...)

GAF hype claims another victim. God of War is an amazing game, dont let the anime watching basement dwellers convince you otherwise.

but, In GoW you don't get to do ANY of this:

1456520050820_205217_6_big.jpg

(Gow shouldn't be avoided though, fun stuff...)

Amir0x said:
yeah i mean if nothing else he should definitely get the sense of awe everyone else did for full effect :)

Yeah, agreed.

They're both worth the money--especially with GoW at $20--but if forced into the hypothetical "if only one could exist..." situation I think Shadow of the Colossus is more unique and worth experiencing.

To me God of War felt like a 9 hour ride at an amusement park. Ive never experienced that in any other game. SOTC was more like a trip to the planetarium.

You seriously have some problems to sort out.

i rate your stereotyping a solid 7 out of 10 (on the famous 'edge' scale mind you)

God of War? I liked it better the first time when it was called DEVIL MAY CRY.

Shadow of the Colossus (and most games) > God of War.

get it right.

GoW is Devil May Cry with a more America-friendly, macho action hero. sheesh.

It's totally diff!

Diablos, I'm sorry that you succumbed to the hype. It happens, though. I called in sick to work the day SotC came out. And then, to add insult to injury of a painfully disappointing game, I got sick for real a day later.

Please don't skip God of War.

Please. Don't let the overhype for SotC turn you off from God of war. PLEASE. I'm on my knees here! It is such a great game =(
