Godfather: Blackhand edition impressions thread

**The Official Godfather: Blackhand Edition Impressions Thread**

Seeing as the game comes out tomorrow, I thought we might as well have a thread to post our impressions on the game. I get the feeling IGN's positive review would have convinced a number of people on this board to purchase the game, myself included.

I'll have impressions when I get the game tomorrow. Be sure to post yours as well.

Meanwhile, who's buying this game?

Trivia

● Before his death, Marlon Brando recorded all of his dialogue to reprise his character, Don Corleone. However, Brando's failing health affected the quality of his dialogue, and only a small portion of it (such as when Don Vito speaks with Michael in the hospital) was actually used. The remaining Don Corleone dialogue was re-recorded with a sound-alike.

● While some of the actors from the original film have reprised their roles for the video game adaptation, Al Pacino did not, preventing Paramount from using his voice or likeness for the game . However, since Paramount owns the rights to the Godfather story and characters, the Michael Corleone character does appear in the game, albeit with a different appearance and a separate actor voicing him. In addition to Pacino, it would appear that Tom Rosqui's estate did not give permission for his likeness to be used in the game, as the Rocco Lampone character looks and sounds nothing like his movie counterpart, though his footage of him shooting at Don Tattaglia was used in one of the game's unlockable film clips.

● On the other hand, several characters played by now-deceased actors (for example, Fredo Corleone, Peter Clemenza, Luca Brasi, and Captain McCluskey), look and sound very similar to their movie counterparts, so it is probable that their estates did give permission.

● In 1991, US Gold produced an earlier, completely different, computer-only game based on the movie. It was a DOS-based game and came on 6 floppy disks. There were five levels of gameplay.

I just want to see a few more reviews that verify that the controls work, and then I plan on picking it up. Was hoping for a few reviews to filter in tonight...

My local store has it in and its not out till the 29th, Im gonna go past after work and twist his arm for it :lol

It seems a little odd that only IGN has reviewed it so far.....then again, Sonic Wii reviews were scarce and it turned out to be great.

Hey if you want me to whip up a nice OP for ya I will. But you have to edit it in and stuff.

Do you think the game deserves it? It would be nice but maybe it's not high-profile enough. Or maybe we could make one for Don and Blackhand edition combined?

who gives a shit. You make an official post, it deserves some official-looking shit. It doesn't have to be high-profile. I'll just put together some media and some factoids and we'll call it a day. Expect something shortly.

I'm huge fan of the book, moderate fan of the movie. Decided to make this game a reward if I make some amazing progress in my dissertation in the next three days.

Thanks heaps for the work Panther, much appreciated. :)

Geez the dithering is bad in this game, white dots everywhere, but IGN didn't really mention it. I guess it must look better in motion.

In newer screens the dithering issue seemed to have been fixed up.

I got this preordered, will pick it up on launch day, which unfortunately here in Europe is Fri 23th (may not make it if PS3 launch turns things ugly).

This shot would've looked awesome if they posted it after they fixed the dithering.
That dithering actually looks kinda stylized. Anyway I think people exaggerate too much, dithering doesn't hold a game back. Nobody cared about it in RE4 still looked good.

Is this new content also in the PS3 version? I'm torn over which version to get, Wii or PS3.

Apparently the Wii game has more content, not to mention people think the controls are pretty fun (IGN and now YahooGames).

EDIT: It's $10 less, too.

I'm considering buying the Wii version because of the controls, but I'll probably just wait until a price drop. The fugly graphics are keeping me away for now, but if it gets good reviews from the other major sites, damnit, count me in.

Holy shit at the yahoo review, this game might be good.

Looking over their other Wii reviews, they haven't given out too man 4/5 stars..definitely a good sign.

I had absolutely ZERO interest in this until I watched the video.

The controls have me amazed.

Maybe now people will lay off of EA. They obviously get they Wii.

Yeah, in this game the controls are everything. It really gets me excited for the future of violence simulations on the Wii :lol :lol

Argh! I can't decide between this and Tiger Woods. I can't believe I'm actually torn between two, well, three EA games if you throw in Madden.

I'm heavily leaning towards this just because it seems like there is a lot of room for improvement in Tiger and you KNOW another one is coming out next year.

just a year ago everything seemed so predictable.

did they *really* fix the dithering?

I caved in and pre-ordered it from Play. Won't get here until next week though. Thread will be full of impressions by then I guess (and I hope only positive ones :lol ).

The Black Hand (La Mano Nera) was pretty much the origin of the Mafia in New York City. No idea how that relates to the game since it's pretty much based entirely on Godfather Part 1 from what I've heard, but Don Fanucci in Part 2 was part of the La Mano Nera.

1up has a goddamned Wing Island review up but no Godfather

Agree´d.
Though it was somehow pervert seeing the guy describing how you can shoot the enemy..DAMN, he shot a human being into his knee XD

Oh man I just watched that video, and talk about amazing controls. :)

Is the game really going to be 50hrs long? Dayyyyyyyyum if true.

I think I am going to pick this one up too. Never thought I would be excited about buying an EA game. I have to try the motion conrtrolled bitch slapping though. THe Yahoo review says the motion conrol works great.

OMG wonder why there are no reviews?

I can go right now and get the game, but I'm not totally 100% converted. More like 91% lol

What if they give it less than a 6?

Well, I almost expect 1up to..

Just want to see a few more reviews verifying the great controls, and I'll be all set.
